I joined the school through a groupon and I must say I enjoy it a lot. I cannot speak for other schools but they have a curriculum set which all teachers follow, so no matter which teacher you have you can pickup exactly where you left off. I am taking salsa 1 for a month and I can tell that they are always starting new classes, so if you need to repeat a class it is definitely an option. This makes it easy to learn and practice if you need to. The subscription is for unlimited courses, so you are welcome in any class which is awesome. The price however is going to change after the 2 months and it may be a bit expensive, but Ill see what I can do.

As a young girl I did not feel comfortable with how some of the teachers in the class teach certain dances, specifically Bachata. One teacher actually encouraged the men to be sexual towards the women in the class, the teacher then told the class if anyone felt uncomfortable then sit down and just watch the class. I felt that it was EXTREMELY inappropriate of the teacher to say. No one should have to be excluded for being uncomfortable, the teacher could have simply been less encouraging to turn the dance sexual. Additionally most of the rooms have NO A/C OR WORKING FANS so it becomes extremely hot.

Ive been to other schools and Piel Canela really stands out because of the welcoming feeling you get from both the teachers and students. It also offers other forms of dancing and classes other than salsa such as: music lessons, belly dance, samba, tango, yoga, stretch, lifts/dips, ballet basics, hip-hop and FREE children classes. For a college grad, the price is really affordable and wont put such a big dent in your wallet. The class size can vary but youll definitely learn.

I got the groupon for 50$ for 2 months worth of lessons. I have gone a few times and it is a pain staking experience. The A/C is very under powered, turning the room into a sauna halfway into the lessons. In addition to that, the instructor goes too fast and leaves (at least me) off step, and searching for a way to get back into step. I spend more time trying to see what the instructor and getting back to step than actually dancing. Would not recommend.

What most impresses me about this school is the curriculum that they have. In other schools, you just learn whatever the instructor decides to teach that day. Piel Canela, however, has a curriculum based program for every level that gradually takes you, week after week, through all the steps. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to have a strong foundation in salsa while also having fun.

I personally have tried other schools trying to find the best place in all aspects to learn salsa. A place where it is easy to learn, a curriculum that builds up gradually, an environment that was friendly and inviting, and people with whom I can make friends and learn together. Piel Canela is all this and more. Definitely try it and see for yourselves. I highly recommend this school.

I have two left feet and was one of the guys who thought could never dance, but after a couple of months of taking lessons at Piel Canela, I was on the dance floor trying out the moves. Moreover the atmosphere at Piel Canela is also amazing - it is very supportive for beginners and very soon I had a group of friends from my dance classes whom I started going out dancing.
