Great, convenient shop. Classic atmosphere with old time radio playing, and interesting art on the wall that changes every month or so. Good man-magazines to read if you have to wait. I believe the owners name is Marty Hatton, he appears to be quite skilled, and he has many regular customers. I get my hair cut by John Busher. He is quite good, and a great guy to talk to. You can even schedule appointments with him, which I do. I believe his current rate is $21, and I always tip him since he does not own the place and probably has to pay Marty a fee for his place there. Not cheap for a barber, but worth it to me. I consider John a friend. I think you can schedule with Marty too, but most customers tend to just walk in. Im very satisfied with this place. Please note their business hours, and that they are open Wednesday through Saturday - not Monday or Tuesday! Yes, a hot shave with a straight razor would be a great offering, as one other positive reviewer was suggesting. I think John does gently use a straight razor along the neckline with no cream. There are cheaper barbers out there, and probably better ones that are more expensive with more services, but these guys are solid!

I have been going to the Rockridge Barber Shop for years and it has been uniformly great. If you want a haircut from Marty, the owner, an appointment is pretty much mandatory because he is always booked solid a couple weeks out, but you can usually do a walk-in with John, who ably mans the second chair. One caveat: this place is sort of the barbershop equivalent of your local old-timers bar. If you have character and like people who have character, youll love this place. If your taste runs more toward shopping malls and chain stores, this place is probably not for you.

Got a great haircut here a few months back. I had been going to a neighboring barber but my friends kept on asking me "Ugh, did your wife cut your hair?" I had had enough. Been once so far, great experience, and a first-rate haircut. I only wish you were able to sip bourbon and get a straight-edge shave too.

After sitting and waiting for about five minutes I was told by the rude barber that an appointment was required. I then realized that this shop was not a place to have a haircut and was more than happy to leave...the place was filthy including the unkept looking barber. Why do we have this in Rockridge?

Torn between four and five stars. Its not a mind-blowing experience, but thats sort of the point in a place like this. If indeed youre looking for a place to show up, get a cut, and not feel overly powdered and produced afterward, Rockridge Barber Shop is a good pick.
