Three and a half, not 4. Bottom line, depending on your needs, it might work for you, it might not. Been a member going on 4 years and it works for me. When not traveling, Im typically there 3 to 4 days a week. I am there primarily to swim and that works for me. One of the best workout pools Ive ever used, I wish I could take it with me when I travel haha! Very few health clubs, let alone resorts or high end hotels offer a 50m olympic sized swimming pool and this one is ozone (salt) filtered which means Im not sneezing and smelling of chlorine after a workout. The hot tub is one of the best anywhere because it can hold a lot of people, the jets are like fire hoses and it is actually hot. Both pool and hot tub do tend to pick up a lot of sand/dirt from the winds and tend to be very crowded during peak hours. The membership is far cheaper than an HOA much less owning pool so there you have it. Im happy. Kennedy also does have a lot of things most gyms dont such as (again) an actual olympic sized swimming pool, full indoor basketball court, squash courts, an expansive beer/wine bar lounge area, a day care facility and lots of private rooms for events and classes. Theyre also real community oriented supporting lots of local business and often having events. Whats interesting is their allocation of space in the upstairs (cardio/weight area) -- an area most health clubs have covered well, seems cramped for the overall size of the facility. I used to use it, now I just swim. Ive toured western village in Santa Maria and their space allocation + quality and frequency of equipment has Kennedy beat several times over BUT a 60-mile round trip is out of the question and they dont have a pool half as good as Kennedy. So depending on what you want, Kennedy might be your deal. If youre looking for a good cardio/weight/machine gym, there might be better ones out there.

When my wife and I signed up here, Kennedy had a special at the time granting 3 free months with a 6 month obligation. The lady who signed us up said our membership would discontinue at the end of 6 months.... Of course that was a lie because now its been well over 6 months and they continue to bill our debit card. We called to politely ask them to stop billing us, and close our account. The representative on the phone proceeded to YELL at my sweet pregnant wife, and threatened to send her to collections if she did not continue to pay the membership fee. Naturally, this was not an option for us because we are moving to Texas in two weeks, which is why we only wanted a 6 month membership to begin with. Now we are being forced to pay for this kennedy membership which we cannot use from Texas, and cannot cancel without the club threatening legal action against us. I cannot stress enough, the importance of customer service in the health club industry. Kennedy has the worst customer service of any such facility we have ever encountered.

When I started here I would have given it 4 stars because they offer lots of classes, have lots of cardio machines, a big pool, and steam rooms in the locker area. Plus, although I dont use them, there are full squash racquetball, and B-ball courts. That being said, I think theyve gotten too big a clientele for the facility. There is a large weight lifting population here and the Smith machine is ALWAYS taken. I have yet to use it more than one time and Ive been a member for 2 years. They need more squat racks, but instead focused the majority of their space on machines, perhaps catering to the housewife and retiree crowd that is prevalent here. IDK. Cleanliness in inconsistent at best. Classes are crowded. Too many people, too little service. After going to WV gym in Santa Maria while house-sitting, Im now regretting having locked myself into another year membership. But its probly the best all-around option in SLO and is convenient to my workplace.

Overall, good club, nice people. A couple issues that Id like to see addressed after having been a member on and off for over 20 years. Many pieces of fitness equipment are tired and dont work correctly. Several of the headphone jacks are inoperable. There really should be more routine maintenance to ensure equipment works and there should be a replacement schedule to replace equipment that should be retired. Also, Personal Trainers need to respect dues paying members. They often talk way to loud, socializing for way too long with their clients and also tie up multiple pieces of equipment at the same time for their clients.

Offers a good range of activities and equipment. Open Houses offer opportunities for getting to know others better. I would like to see more classes appropriate for people with some limitations and a wider range of water classes - like deep water conditioning, classes specifically for joints and flexibility. The SLO club is not as well maintained as many of us would like; I doubt the lockers have ever been cleaned inside, for example, and it appears that the wrong products are used for cleaning the tile. A recent refinishing of a group exercise room appears to have been done by amateurs. Get more expertise in this area.

Its got descent equipment, just not enough of it. Needs more squat racks, less cardio equipment. Gets a three for having all the courts (basketball, squash, raquetball) and a pool (never been in it), but it gets real crowded especially on peak times. I hear the other locations are much better. The mens locker room badly needs fans though, it gets real musky and dank in there. Also, the lockers themselves I have yet to see clean - seriously needs to be like scrubbed down once a week with the amount of sweaty nastiness that goes in there. Forget the stupid wasteful baggies, just clean the damn things.

Outdated and Dirty. The equipment is in terrible disrepair, the cardio machines are outdated and there is not a good selection of classes. The classes they do have are very overcrowded. The child care center is awful. They have no limit on the number of kids they accept so you will see 40 or 50 kids with 3 adults. Do you think that is safe? I have seen sick kids there, very unsanitary and flat dangerous. I wont take my kids there anymore and as a result of the poor child care option I cancelled my membership. The equipment is dirty and i would not waste your money here. Two thumbs down.

I been a member here for over 10 years. My wife and I swim and use a Jacuzzi a few days a week. The pool is a full olympic size pool and very clean and nice. The jacuzzi is big and round and is the Jewel of the whole place. I work out upstairs every once in awhile and it seems nice. I mostly swimmer however so I dont have too much to say about the upstairs equipment. Okay is really a fun Club and I recommend membership there wholeheartedly.

The fact that you need a 30 day notice to cancel your membership or you get charged again is bogus. I dont have enough money to pay my bills and I get charged $54.99 for a month I wont be going to. I understand it wires automatically every momth and the banks need notice, but Kennedy can also refund me my money if I am not content with the charge. They do not care enough for one unhappy customer, hate the place now.
