Having just moved to the area I was informed Aveda was the place to go for a great cut and color! So, I scheduled two appointments: one for my daughter (a cut) and one for myself (a color touch-up and cut). I was informed our cuts would be $11.00 each because it was our first time to Aveda and my color would be $35.00 which should have been $57.00 total. But at the counter I was told my bill was $146.00 plus a $21.00 gratuity not to mention the $10.00 for parking—for a total of $177.00—a hundred and twenty dollars increase than what I was told. My daughter’s cut is fabulous! A different hairstylist cut my hair! My husband first response was, “Your hair looks awful! It looks like a skinned skunk trying to look punk!” Please understand my husband loves my hair when it is cut and colored correctly. He likes short hair, but not this and neither do I!! Image my horror when I brought instructions for my color mixture from my previous hairstylist in Tennessee AND three different 8x10 photos of various views of the style of cut I wear. The Pure Talent hairstylist stated, "You came prepared! I love visuals which really help because then there are no miscommunications or mistakes." Then after the cut she asked me what I thought (I had not even seen the back). And my response to her was, "My hair is shorter than it has ever been!" She then replied, “Oh, it must be a miscommunication!” Apparently, pictures did not communicate clearly enough! Yet, I did not realize the damage completely until I got home and washed my hair! The back of my head is shorter than my husband’s who is in the Military, as well as the top for that matter. I have maybe ¼” of hair at my crown to the middle of the top of my head. It is uneven and one side is longer than the other. Yet, there was no texturizing, no chipping nor any softness to the haircut as shown in the picture. In addition, I specifically requested I have longer hair in front of my ear, yet there is none. As for the color it is chunked white, and I have a tail off the backside of my crown that is one inch long that is all white. And yes I did measure it. I will never return to Aveda Academy. In addition, my friends and colleagues who knew I was going are waiting to see my hair and my experience. They will get an ear full today and see the results. Unfortunately, I feel if try to contact the owner, Kent, I will not be allowed to speak with him to inform him of this horrible experience. --Kathryn W.-- Aurora--Feb. 28, 2008

I am biracial, and I was very nervous about going to anyone new to do anything to my hair. After reading the stellar reviews, I decided to give Aveda a try. I scheduled a brow wax and blowout/flatiron, as I was attending a special event and wanted to look fierce. Upon entering, I was checked in and immediately offered refreshment. This was much appreciated, as my nervousness left me parched. I was seated to wait for the esthetician. The wax was completed in a sleek room set away from the hustle and bustle of the hair salon. The room was softly lit, with ambient music playing in the background. It was actually very relaxing. I cannot remember her name off of the top of my head, but she did an excellent job on my brows. She chatted with me casually, but did not stifle me banter. I sincerely appreciated that, as I am not necessarily chatty. Once the wax was completed, I was seated in my stylists chair to wait for her. Norrie greeted me, and I immediately shared with her my story and my anxiety about my hair. She understood my concerns, and she put me at ease by assuring me that she would not do anything to my hair without explaining it first. Just that simple gesture took a lot of the pressure off. She was very courteous and professional, and she was genuinely very nice! As it turns out, we have a lot in common when it comes to experiences with hair. I was extremely pleased with how my hair turned out. It was silky and gorgeous. As an individual with thick and wild curls, it was wondrous to behold. I left the salon feeling beautiful and confident. After leaving a salon, what more could a woman (or man) ask for? Aveda was fantastic, and I highly recommend them. TO THE BLACK/BIRACIAL FOLK: If you dont know where to go, and youre afraid someone is going to butcher your locks, go see NORRIE! She put me at ease, and she knows her stuff. Thank you Aveda, and thank you Norrie!

Ive been coming to Aveda Academy since I moved back to Denver 5 years ago, after going to a similar Aveda salon in San Francisco when I lived there. Ive seen many different stylists over the years, ranging from newer Pure Talent stylists to the experts on the other side of the salon, and Id say Im consistently happy with my results. On the whole, my experience has been really great here. I had my hair and my bridesmaids hair for my wedding done here in 2011 and everyone looked gorgeous. The salon is always very accommodating on scheduling and rescheduling appointments. If you go to Pure Talent, your haircuts start as low as $12 and include a scalp massage, shampoo, cut, and styling using Aveda products. Theyll also always offer you tea or water, which is nice on hot or cold days! Ive also come here many times for wax appointments, seeing JJ who I absolutely love. Shes great at getting you in and out quickly while still being thorough and great. The wax services are really affordable, and she does a great job. The only downside with this salon is that if you do go to Pure Talent, it can sometimes be hit or miss. Ive personally never had an issue, but my mom had one stylist who cut her hair short in a crooked bob, and my mom had to go back to have somebody fix it. My mom also one time asked to go slightly lighter than her dark brown color, and instead, the girl ended up giving her horrible blonde highlights. The best advice I can give is that if you do end up with somebody youre unfamiliar with, COMMUNICATE clearly what it is youre looking for. If youre able to do that, youre sure to come out happy with the results!

A few reviewers have mentioned CoCo. Shes my stylist, as well, and has been nothing short of incredible. On my first visit, she created a psychological profile for me and my hair - she asked a lot of questions, had me look at pictures and identifiy the sort of styles I like, explained how some would work well for me and others, not so much but how she could achieve a more flattering result with different techniques. Ive had two other great hair professionals, but one moved away and the other is booked well into the next year. I had had a string of terrible cuts and was hesitant to try someone new yet again, but CoCo turned out to be exactly who I needed to see. Not only is she great at cutting, styling and coloring, she is charming and fun. If you dont want to chat, she wont talk your ear off. If you do like to talk, shes a great conversationalist. Shes very professional and does not spend her time conversing with the other stylists. Shes attentive to detail and had always been considerate and consulted with me every step of the cut and color. Also, shes good at head massages. I recommend Aveda, in general, but Coco in particular...which is actually bad of me to do because then shell always be booked and it will be harder for me to see her.
