I would give it 3.5 stars if I could. The good: This club fitness location is one of the nicest club fitness in the area. Good selection of equipment, both cardio and weights. Equipment is fairly new. They seem to be way more on top of repairing broken equipment than other Club Fitness Locations. Last year they FINALLY put gym wipe dispensers around and got rid of the spray bottles and rags. This has helped immensely with the cleanliness issues of the past. The bad: This place is way too over crowded now. It was busy last year, but since new years the crowds have been awful. There is not a time that I have been in the last few months between 10 AM and 10 PM where it isnt swarming with people. And the normal after work rush is awful, not even worth going because youll waste so much time waiting. The smell of BO in there is starting to be somewhat overwhelming at times, and this was very rarely an issue in the past. Im concerned that as hot summer weather approaches, the AC will have trouble keeping up with the crowds and the BO issue will become even worse. Recently, they jammed a lot of fitness equipment in way too close of proximity in the area where the arc trainers and rowing machines are. Now there is an arc trainer elliptical machine literally 4 inches from a wall, and the other arc trainers are spaced literally 4 inches apart. The rowing machines and some of the ellipticals have no room to walk behind if someone is using the machine. I feel claustrophobic and like Im playing frogger to get back to the area with the arc trainers. A lot of the Club Fitness locations are awful, dirty, have broken equipment, old equipment, poor selection, etc. Because of this the Affton location (one of only a handful of nice locations) is absolutely swamped. Club Fitness needs to take notice and renovate other locations to make them more like this one. A lot of the reason why this isnt getting 5 stars is because of the over crowding at Affton and the fact that most Club Fitness locations are awful, leaving the Affton location and the only suitable south city/south county location. Other good CF locations Ive been to: Chesterfield in the outlet mall, Florissant, and Brentwood (sadly it is a smaller location, lacking the selection of the others, but is clean and equipment is well-kept). The other locations have been pretty terrible. They need to post the hours of the tanning, it seems to close 30-45, sometimes an hour before "closing time" on the website depending on whos working.

The gym has a fair amount of equipment and usually is clean. The showers seem to get neglected. I usually go in the morning and cant speak for the evening experience. The wait for machines sometimes can be a real challenge in that some people camp out on the machines for 10 minutes at a time. The campers are usually texting or staring out in space. So, I try to use another machine that might fit my workout while the machine hog lounges on the machine. Sometimes I cant even do that because there are multiple "loungers" in the vicinity. I have even had trainers quickly inform me that they (trainer and client) are using that machine" You cant be using the machine if you are laying on the ground. My question is" why cant you share the machine while you are not using it?"This has happened twice in the last month. Then there are the people that believe they can use two machines at once as long as they have a phone or water by the unoccupied machine. I have started to ask people if I can work in with them while they are resting and sometimes this is met with a look like I have three heads. My girlfriend attends the Rock Hill location and she says she sees the texting problem but in the two years she has attended she has never been asked to relinquish a machine or witnessed a trainer ask a already seated member to get up and let their client work in before the person seated even gets a set in. These are my observations and maybe that is the way gyms are evolving.

After years of visiting what feels like every Club Fitness in the St. Louis region, I can confidently say that the Affton gym is the best of the lot. Its well-lit, has new machines, clean locker rooms, and great group classes. Everyone that I have interacted with has been friendly and helpful, from the front dest staff to the janitorial team. This gym is 24 hours, and the parking outside is well-lit, so you can feel safe walking in at all hours. I have not worked with any of their personal trainers, but the zumba and spinning instructors are helpful and encouraging. A few tips to get the most of your experience: I dont recommend going on Mondays and Tuesdays between 5-8pm because that is when it seems to be the most crowded. Ive never had trouble getting an elliptical/cardio equipment, but parking and waiting for free weights during this time can be frustrating. My only qualm is that many users do not wipe down the machines after use. This does not seem to be an issue with cardio equipment where there are sanitary stations at the ends of rows. However, this is not the fault of Club Fitness and I couldnt knock off a star. Just be sure to wipe down your machines before and after use to be safe!

I love this gym. All the reviews below are people who dont go often or have ridiculous expectations of a gym. You get what you pay for and for $21.95 a month I have zero complaints. I have cancelled before due to not wanting to pay for a gym membership that month,as other things were more important, and Ive never had any issues or had to pay cancellation fees. If the staff sees you fairly often (I go on average 3X a week) they are incredibly friendly and always strike up conversation. Like any customer service job, they can read people and know if youre not serious, or if youre someone looking for issues to complain about. Affton gets busy because they offer every amenity available with the full membership. If you dont like the fact that theyre busy, and dont use any of the "extras" go to a smaller location where there is less people. Too many complaints about petty issues that would be handled properly if people werent irate about little things. And, no I dont work for them, nor do I get anything for this. Call and ask them Im just a regular member who gets sick of people bashing on a gym who does their best for the price they offer.

First visit I needed info for a guest membership but the employee was playing with her phone and had seemed surprised when I asked for info. No smile no greeting or hospitality, I was given the info and she stepped immediately away to speak to another employee very happily stepping away from another request for a shake that I wanted. The second problem I had was when I invited a friend to try the club to possibly join. After scanning my card a manager or employee immediately asked my name and told me my payment was declined in front of my friend and mentioned the length of days payment was overdue with no discretion, I had already been aware of this because the manager of the club I usually visit was switching my payment from credit to checking. I told her this and that I had spoken to Josh(other manager) and she replied accusingly that "there is no Josh here" smirking while listing some other names of employees here. Very rude very unprofessional place, the other locations are great but this place is not worth the money.
