UPDATED REVIEW-- Monday, 6/19 I have since spoken to the owner who took the initiative to call me to express his apology for my poor experience (described below). I was genuinely impressed and moved by his sincerity both in taking care of an unsatisfied client and also balancing this with meeting the needs of his staff. He also gave me a credit to return to his shop anytime for me to experience what he is committed to giving his clients. Quite frankly, I was more moved to learn how he is with his staff. Commendable and remarkable....that alone is worth 5 stars. (Thank you, John, and continued success to you.) ________ Sunday, 6/18 (originally gave it 2 stars) I was so excited to try this place bec of the reviews. I brought pictures of women shaved styles I wanted and explained it to the guy I was assigned to. Unfortunately...it was dismal. My barber tried so hard. He was friendly and warm but, the skill and the confidence were not there. Perhaps my being a woman looking for a mans cut killed his nerves. Perhaps... His efforts tho were A++ = He tried for nearly 1.5 hrs....maybe there was also the added nerves of being with the shop for only 8 months? I think if I were man wanting the same...i just dont know. Towards the end, his comb began digging roughly on my scalp, his frustration, annoyance and dissatisfaction eventually showing. I can understand that..thru it all, I kept being encouraging and positive with him, guiding him back to the picture. Finally, I recognized this just wasnt going anywhere and graciously okd at some point. Good news: It was a free cut bec of a promo for Fathers day. (PS In case you wonder if I failed on my end, heres what happened the next day....I woke up, looked in the mirror and the cut is just a VERY AWKWARD middle ground fr what I wanted and what my barber was comfortable in giving me. NOT good. Not happy. I googled again. Found another barbershop: 5 stars, 200+ reviews. Lets see what happens here, I thought. I go there. Show my photo. He listens, asks a couple of questions. Twenty mins later, EVERYTHING I wanted, he did. EVERYTHING. Bottomline: I feel beautiful, feminine and hot...in my fade cut. Proof -- I LITERALLY take 5 steps out of the barbershop and a man on the street yells to me over and over again, "Gorgeous!!! Just gorgeous!!!" OH, and the price? $20, with tip

I traveled 40 minutes out of my way for this disgrace of a barbershop. To begin, I scheduled my appointment for 4:00PM and waited 45 minutes to be taken, not because the barbers were busy with other customers, but rather they were too busy styling their own hair, watching television, talking among co-workers or playing on their phones. The last time I checked, an appointment is a guaranteed time slot. Having waited 45 minutes, I was finally given the opportunity to get my cut. The barber was clueless when I asked for a "high and tight". Several times during the cut, the barber had even paused to watch the TV or text! All said and done, the haircut wasnt as bad as the customer service, but it gets better. I went to the checkout counter and was shocked to find out how expensive this place is! With sub par customer service and haircut quality I couldve received at Supercuts, $35.00 for a "Mens Signature Cut" is absolutely absurd. I handed the cashier my credit card only to find out they dont accept credit cards either! I was instructed to use the ATM in their facility, but guess what?! Its out of order! So I was sent walking blocks down the street to use an ATM. After all, this is the first and last time I ever visit this place. You couldnt offer me a FREE haircut to get me back in here. I only came here in the first place because my barber was closed and I desperately needed a cut. The images and reviews on google lead me to think this place was great, but its clear I was greatly mislead. I will never recommend this place to anyone.

If you want to go to a barbershop that makes you feel at home, then this is the one for you. Been recommending many of my friends and coworkers to this place and it is now their primary place for haircuts. The shop alone is beautiful. The whole setup is nu-modern and has an original feel to it, as opposed to other places Ive visited. Everything is detailed, precise and all the barbers are very patient with each customer. Giving them exactly what they ask for; not rushing through clients, even if they have anyone waiting behind them. Jimmy the Barber is always very polite, makes you feel very comfortable before, during and after a cut. His cuts show that he is passionate in what he does and is a true artist. My boyfriend is the one that gets the haircuts but i dont mind waiting around because of the way they make you feel so at home and like family. I will gladly continue to use this a place of recommendation.

No walkins, make an appointment. I stopped by on a lazy Sunday afternoon one barber two customers. I sat down and the barber gave me an odd look before asking if I had an appointment about five minutes later. When I told him no he proceeded to finish the first customers haircut. About 10 minutes later when he was done he decided to tell me that people make appointments and he could schedule one for me. So instead of just saying he wouldnt be able to serve me when I walked in he asked if I had an appointment and wasted my time. If you cared about your customers you could just say he/they (if other barbers were working later or on break) couldnt serve me without an appointment. Waiting to tell me like he did makes me think he just didnt want to be obligated to serving me, ie came in knowing he had x customers and could leave at x time.

Before I started getting my cut at Made Man, I visited many different barbershops from Perth Amboy to Woodbridge. Ive had many different barbers and never felt like I was ever getting a good cut. Id always get the same haircut because I never trusted the barber to do a good job. That all changed when I stepped into Made Man. The atmosphere from the second you walk in to the second you walk out is just amazing. Ive never been to any barber shop where the experience is so fantastic. All the barbers are professional and well mannered. They know exactly what to do and how to do it. While my barber Joe is the greatest Ive had, Im sure you will be satisfied with any of the barbers. If youre not sure whether or not this is the place for you, just walk in and try it out once, I guarantee you will want to go back!

One might say, "why would you need a barber?" Being that I have a shaved head and such... My answer to that person would be simple. Nobody in the business does a close shave like this barbershop. Made Man is an exceptional establishment that takes pride in how they operate their business. The facility is top notch and the staff is the best. This simply cannot be debated. Currently, I am sporting quite impressive beard. In order to maintain this work of art, one must take great care and consideration in selecting the appropriate professional to get the job done. There isnt one barber in that building that I do not trust implicitly. All of that being said, You only feel as good as you look , and I feel great! That is in direct correlation to the former . Do yourself a favor and visit Made Man today.
