Coming into this salon as both a massage therapist who is familiar with salon/spa settings, as well as the roommate of a previous employee, I was really excited for my service! Boy, was I let down. After verbally wrestling with the front desk staff to get checked in (the entire reception staff seemed to fit the title of young and dumb, and I say this as someone as someone in their 20s), no one made any attempts towards offering a beverage or to check my coat (despite signage requesting as much). "Okay I guess", I think. Maybe theres just a lackluster front of house staff, goodness knows Ive seen it plenty. Doesnt mean I wont get a quality cut! Well, then I meet my stylist. He was within the 1st proper tier (meaning he was out of academy styling, and onto the higher cost tiers of stylist), and I was bringing him a technical, but fairly easy haircut to reproduce. I described wanting a long bob, where the back was to the nape of my neck, and the front length was my current length, minus the dead ends (about 3-4" past my shoulders). Nothing too fancy, really. I brought references and everything. Hes very stoic, asks very little, and only takes two quick glances at my photos before starting in the front. I knew I was screwed after the first cut. He pulls the hair to length, shows and asks me if he has the right length, I agree to where hes indicating. He then LETS GO of the hair, remeasures, and lops my hair off, straight across, 2 inches higher than the original agreed upon length. I was speechless. When he blow-dried it, there was no angling at all, no change in length from front to back, just a boring, chin-length mom haircut. I was mortified. I havent felt as ugly and defeated as I did leaving Bangz since I was a kid and had a run in with some bubblegum. Ive had to fashion some weft clip extensions to feel truly comfortable going out and about. To top it off, despite knowing they have commission incentives, no one spoke to me about products, offered to get my coat returned to me (after having to ask if I needed to check it in the first place), AND the receptionist didnt ask if Id like to leave a gratuity for my stylist, which despite the bad service, is something that should AL WA US be asked in the service industry. Id give them 0 stars if I could.

As of today, I have only been here twice and both times have been exquisite. When you first walk in, you have a choice to either sit in the lobby provided, or walk up to the desk to "Check In" but regardless of either, a woman will approach you and ask about your appointment. They are very eager to make sure you are comfortable and check back with you every 2 mins, which can be a little incessant, but they mean VERY well. If you are early for your appointment, which I am always early, they get concerned if you are sitting for too long and update both the status of the hair dresser and your mood to them; crazy! Im not impatient, plus Im early. I kept telling the middle-woman to not worry about me, but she was offering drinks left and right... Once everything was ready for me, the stylist himself came out to greet me. We briefly discussed some ideas and met personalities and then he escorted me to where the "magic" would take place. I am always in awe of what they did to this ex-church – we chatted hair business and he did his research while I was taken to get my hair washed. You are getting a full head massage, whether you expect one or not; and it feels great. I react inappropriately to hair tugs, but; *thumbs up*. The hair cut was great! He got to work and was a surgeon about it. Things had to be perfect for him; but that didnt skimp on time. He was very focused and I tried to break some concentrated silence with a comment about either of our lives. Things were great at Bangz and I will be going back. For a $35 Mens Master Stylist, which I just ended up with, I tipped $10 (I am a college student, no judgements.) and I highly recommend this place. I do notice an array of "shoot or miss" reviews below, but I cant judge a majority of those services because I didnt get hair treatments, coloring, relaxing or what ever you want to put your hair through for sociological attention; but for a cut, complicated or not, Bangz makes it easy and reliable. You will pay for it though, in money... just to make that clear.

I was a hair client, serviced by Rudy. I went from long (down to my waist) hair to very short and horribly cut hair. I brought in pictureSSS of what I wanted and told him that I wanted a VERY specific look. He looked at my pictures and began his "work." He didnt seem confident and this made me both nervous and a bit confused: how could a published author and well "known" stylist "look" uncomfortable? His chair-side manner was polite but NOT reassuring and I quickly tired of him talking about his book! As he started to cut, every bit of blood left my head and I felt a rush of fear, but I was now left holding a 22 inch long ponytail and a head with VERY little uneven hair... As he cut he turned me from the mirror, which made me a bit queasy. He cut, AND cut... And I kept asking: "it will look like the picture, right?" When I caught a glimpse... I thought I would DIE! THIS MAN IS A MASTER STYLIST??? I had a pixie cut and I hadnt ASKED FOR THAT!!! When I was DONE I was sad and felt beaten. I walked downstairs and PAID for a cut I did NOT want, with a MASTER stylist that not only did NOT cut my hair the way I wanted BUT also mangled and CHOPPED my hair! I had to go home to FINISH HIS HORRIBLE JOB! He didnt Cross checked his work, he didnt clean up the cut so that I could AT THE VERY LEAST sport a FINISHED look. My sideburns were 1/2 inch off- one from the other. He used a clipper MACHINE to trim behind my ears and nicked the back so I had a TRIANGLE SHAPED BALD SPOT about the size of HALF A PENNY: he covered this up by "styling" my own hair like a comb-over, over the bald spot!!! When I complained to the ladies downstairs, behind the counter, they said there was NOTHING they could do??? How is this possible? How do I GO months without hearing back from anyone AT ALL? How is it possible that NO one care that I HAD to cut OFF ALMOST all of the hair that he left (which wasnt much) just to make it EVEN??

I only had an experience with the spa, not the hair salon but what I did see was pretty great. The spa itself is gorgeous, luxurious while still being inviting. The service I received ( I got a facial) was top notch. I felt pampered and attended to the entire time. What I liked most is that when the esthetician applied my mask, she didnt just leave the room for 15 min or so but rather stayed there massaging my shoulders and hands, which was awesome. I also thought that the staff were very nice and professional and I had no experience with anyone who was rude, as some other reviews had suggested. I do have two complaints though... One is about the waiting area. Once I changed into my robe, I was told to wait in the waiting area, which was really small. There were two kids already sitting there waiting for their mom and were being a bit loud. They were sprawled across the seating area, so I had to squeeze myself in the corner... On the way out of the treatment, I had to pass the same waiting area and there were was a man sitting there with another group of kids and I assume that they were waiting for their wife/mom also. I felt kind of weird trying to squeeze by them in my bathrobe and that definitely took away from the experience. I wish that the area was bigger and only for clients who are actually getting treatments so that it would be more comfortable and private. Another thing that I was not crazy about was that I felt that my esthetician was trying really hard to sell me some expensive line of cosmetics that the spa uses. I found it really annoying to have to keep saying "Ill think about it" and "Not this time". I think that she did a wonderful job with my skin and should not be pushed by the spa to sell their products, as well. Overall, I really like this place and will definitely be back
