How many New York restaurants can the average American name? Tavern on the Green, Windows on the World, Raos, Carnegie Deli, and the Rainbow Room come to mind. Some of these places are still here, but some arent. So as a tourist, I felt obligated to visit the Russian Tea Room while I had the chance. My expectations were low regarding the quality of the food. Old school dining dominions become more noted for their décor, atmosphere, and history rather than their food. And it certainly wasnt a good foodie sign when they sell Russian Tea Room t-shirts (or should I say tea shirt?) in the restaurant. Not surprisingly, half of the diners appeared to be tourists. I tried to order like a Russian which only seemed fitting in the Russian Tea Room. That meant starting with Russian vodka with a deep Russian name like Leningrad of Kremlin. Although its traditional to order caviar with vodka, its also a good pairing with the pelmeni dumpling filled with beef and foie gras. (I order foie when I visit New York because its illegal in California.) It can be served like a consommé soup, but I had the sour cream version. It was like beef tortellini in a cream sauce. Not particularly spectacular, but satisfying even though it seemed more Italian than Russian (although interesting how European cuisines share so many commonalities).

If you are Chinese and used to standard service in regular American restaurants, dont bother going to this one. No food item was warm enough, and service deliberately difficult as if making it difficult for a customer is their very raison detre -- from a server pushing the food cart, who repeatedly ignore my order, to a waitress who would not bring you the right number of contains to take away leftovers -- when asked for one more polystyrene box, she decided shed charge an extra dollar -- the reason? I did not touch 1 dim sum dish of the 4 ordered, to a cashier who refused to take my credit for less than the arbitrary minimum (is that illegal in NYS?) but wanted to retain my credit card as collateral for me to go to get cash as if I she were sure Id disappear. Just dont bother -- can you even imagine such an unfriendly place -- everyone any customer would encounter, not one was any better, and the food was not even right -- not even maintaining the minimum standard, like the right temperature. Just forget about it. Youll save yourself a lot of frustrations.

I come here often with family for morning tea and dim sum. We usually try to get there by 10AM. It starts to get real busy & crowded by 11AM, so its best to go earlier. Street parking isnt too hard to find and they have valet parking behind the restaurant too. Food: On average, the food is fairly fresh and served steaming from the push carts. The flavors of the dim sum cant be compared to Hong Kong but certainly, its one of the best dim sum restaurants in NYC. Some special dim sum, like egg tarts, start to come out of the kitchen closer to 11AM. You can also start ordering items from the kitchen starting at 11AM. Egg tarts, silken tofu, beef tendon, beef rice rolls, and chicken feet are all mandatory on all my visits. On one occasion, when i ordered "Mixed Cow", I received proportionally more liver parts than stomach & daikon, which I didnt appreciate. Otherwise, I love that dish too. Service: Its efficient, but youll have to scream or run in front of a waiter/cart ladies to grab their attention. Ambiance: Casual, good for family gatherings

You know me and my sushi spots, love em! The food is nice, I love the fish that swim in the middle of the restaurant. (gives you something to look at when you are waiting for your food) The bar has its nice location in the back, so you dont have to hear all the drunkards yell and scream. The drinks are a little pricey, but I guess thats the price you pay for drinking out. The valet service is convenient, since theres usually nowhere to park. What blew me away was the hookah that they serve. Now, I am not a big fan of hookah, but, I am a vaper. I asked our server if I could vape, she didnt know what I was talking about, so I whipped out my mod, and she immediately knew what I wanted to do. She checked with the manager and said I could, which was awesome. I wasnt blowing clouds or nothing, but some people get really touch about vaping so, I had to ask. Thanks for the at home feeling Jade Kudos to you!

Hello Dim sum! i have always had dim sum in the city, never in Flushing. Thanks to an invitation, I was here with a big group so I think we pretty much ordered everything on the menu. Yes, that would include chicken feet, sea snails, stir-fried clams, etc. Our American friends are far more adventurous than I am when it comes to chicken feet and sea snail to say the least. The restaurant is very spacious and we got a big table in a private room. The carts come very often and we got a lot of dishes. My highlights are their Turnip cake, shrimp dumplings, deep fried mochi dumplings, spare ribs, coconut pudding and Shrimp Fun. The total bill came out to be about $16 but we had piles of plates. That is actually very reasonable. Also, the food is quite fresh and quality is very good. Another good part about Jade Asian is you dont need to wait 1 hour like you would at Jing Fong or Golden Unicorn!

I was trying to plan something special for my brother during his "Stag Week Festivities". My brother was considering becoming a chef at one point and so I figured that having a professional chef come and teach us a few things would be a great idea. After doing some "chef shopping" and talking to numerous people, I have to say that out of everyone, Chef Sebastian was AMAZING! He made the planning so easy and he was so thoughtful from the very beginning. He put together a delicious menu and the night was a hit! He even brought us some fresh cut flowers for the table and local wine to enjoy! Everyone had fun learning how to cook and the meal itself was to die for. He even stuck around for a Q&A session afterwards which was so nice because we got to know him even better! He is so down to earth, brilliant, and a true artist in the kitchen. Our whole group HIGHLY recommends Chef Seba!

At last Ive found a restaurant to replace my beloved Quickly SS. Actually, Spring Shabu Shabu leaves every other hotpot spot Ive visited in the dust. The variety of foods is amazing, the AYCE setup means you control your own menu and portion size. The space is big and the tables seem well maintained, though getting your stock to boil is, as always, a matter of finessing the controls. Most importantly, each guest gets an individual pot of broth. This is crucial when your dining partner just doesnt share your love of spices. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. Service was focused around keeping the buffet clean and stocked, as it should be. Protein platters are not included but the cost is cheap, and ours came with at least as much meat as Ive been given elsewhere. The only downside was rolling out of here too full to enjoy the rest of Flushing.
