The machine is inside of the Rite Aid. It gives you the option of copying car keys or house/other keys. This review is for the "house/other" option. I did not try the car key option. You may need to give it a few tries before it works. The first time it told me it was down for routine maintenance and would be back up again soon. The second it told me there was an issue cutting my key and that my payment would be refunded. The third time was the charm; it cut my quickly, offered to "save my key" in case I wanted to make more copies later (didnt bother with that), and emailed my receipt to me. Despite multiple tries it was still quick (under 10 minutes) and easy, and most importantly the copied key WORKS! Ive gone to several actual locksmiths around the city where an "expert" cuts them, and I usually have to go back to have them re-cut the key again because theirs failed. While I am all for supporting local shops and actual people, considering the quality and the time saved getting it right the first time, I will definitely use the KeyMe services the next time I need to copy a key.

The kiosk on 8th Ave. is good. Couldnt find it at first because I thought it would be a store - turns out it was a kiosk located inside a grocery/department store (near the entrance). It was really fun using it! Not super expensive (6.99, ~7 with tax). Got my duplicate key right then and there, which was pretty neat. I was a little worried because the teeth looked really sharp (it was obvious that it was freshly cut and I thought it might not fit in the door lock) but once I used it, it worked perfectly. I figure the teeth will probably dull down with more uses. Great experience overall!

I searched all over nyc canvassing locksmiths both in person & by phone to copy a less common key, the Medeco Freedom. I was turned away because I need the key card from my landlord. My landlord charges $50 for an extra key & keyMe allowed me to get my key without speaking to anyone, without the hassle of calling all over & for only $9.99 for my "rare" key. It is being shipped to my address & I couldnt be happier about the whole process!

Great idea, but expensive. I selected simple key copy and still charges $6.99 per copy the hardware store charged me $2.20 per copy

I copied my house key and now when I need a spare I stop by and use my fingerprint to print another one. Love this!
