This gym is basically fine, the machines all tend to be kept in good condition and everything, but there are some major issues with it. I joined just for the pool. The pool, however, has a lot of rules that are enforced with varying degrees of consistency depending on the guard at the moment and often border on the absurd. One such rule Ive been told is they dont allow fins. I use short, training fins often to strengthen my legs and work on good form. Sometimes Im allowed to use them and others, Im not. They also dont have basic amenities all other gyms with pools Ive been to had: pull buoys, hand paddles, a towel service, and "suit spinners" (bathing suit dryers). Additionally, the inconsistent enforcement of often ludicrous rules is not just true of the pool. I once had a Gatorade or something like that and was not allowed to bring it into the gym - "no drinks with dye allowed," is what I was told. (If memory serves correctly, they were selling Gatorade with dye at the time, but I might be wrong on that.) They lack basic amenities, as Ive mentioned above. They also dont keep scales in the locker rooms. I asked about that after I joined and they told me that they way I look and how my clothes feel should be enough. Sorry, no, that is a basic piece of equipment at a gym because they are usually more accurate there than home scales. The membership fees are fairly high for the area, but they seem to get away with it because they offer one of the only indoor pool options in a large radius. The fee to bring a guest is HUGE: $15/person for the day, and no free guest passes EVER. The class schedule is difficult to make use of if you work 9-5 and they close the gym on nearly every federal holiday. About half the staff are very friendly and the other half very rude. They do have some incredible yoga instructors, though. Overall, Id skip this place unless you really desperately need a pool and cant make the trip to a farther location.

Not Impressed. I have been a been to 3 different gyms in the past 6 years, The most recent and the one I am currently a member at is Mikes. Although the price is in my budget which makes me very happy, there are a few things I have issues with. To begin with there are NO SCALES in the entire gym at least this is what I was told by more then one staff member. I find this hard to believe unless they reserve the scales for people who pay for personal training sessons like they do for the BOSUs and possibly jump rops that they say they do not have (which annoys me of course as well). The machines are not in the greatest shape although a lot of them and I very rarely need to wait. I joined Mikes through the recommendation of friends because they do not offer the 7 day free week trial as most gyms do. If they did I may not have changed gyms and signed a 2 year contract for the slightly lesser price. With all that said the daycare is great, it is very large area with lots of things for my son to do and the staff is great. There are lots of machines both cardio and weights and lots of room so your not on top of each other, and there classes are at more convenient times and lots of them. They also offer different things like racquetball and the pool. So although Mikes is not my favorite of the gyms (Ballys was the best and cheapest but is sadly not in this area), it does provide me a place to work out and a fun place for my son to play for an affordable price.

Horrible experience here. I was staying at a hotel in Highland that had passes to the express location located next door. I said I wanted to take a group ex class , and was told Id have no problem paying an entrance fee to the Poughkeepsie location. When I arrived for the class, I was made to wait at the front desk for 25 minutes while they figured out which side of their ass faced the sun (they were all very nice), only to be told that they didnt offer day passes, even at $30+, would I like a membership? No, Im visiting the area from out of town for the weekend so I wouldnt like a membership. It was a terrible experience, compounded by the waiting and no one seeming to know what they were doing. Fortunately Crunch Poughkeepsie down the road was able to accommodate me with AMAZING group ex instructors & workout area. Id rhighly ecommend them to anyone visiting the area- do NOT go to Mike Arteagas.

Ok gym for the average person. Lots of cardio equipment, lots of group classes, and lots of machines. I think Mike Artega is a firm believer in Nautilus machines and there is certainly a lot of them both up and downstairs. If youre looking for real weightlifting, you will be left wanting. There is one power rack, one funky squat stand, no platforms or bumper plates, and all the weights are octagonal which makes resetting after each deadlift, etc. a pain. Also, good luck with getting anyone to coach your form or give you a spot. Most of the personal trainers look like theyve never lifted a heavy weight in their life. There is almost never any staff around the weight area anyhow. Prices are reasonable and the hours work for me. Parking is never an issue for me either. All in all, it is a good gym that will be plenty for most, but I really wish there was a real "barbell club" in Poughkeepsie

First off, you should note that their practice of billing every two weeks is a blatant attempt to get an extra months payment out of you -- note that your mind calculates so much a month but neglects to account for the 52 week payment cycle which adds in two additional payments. But worse yet, when you cancel, make sure to get a written acknowledgement of cancelation. We did not and ended up paying for an additional two months before we realized our account was still being debited. Of course, Mike Arteagas refused to refund the money. Golds is a much cleaner/better equipped gym with a much better deal -- one price gets you access to three gyms, one of which is open 24 hours.

Clean, GREAT staff. Music at a reasonable level. (Ican actually hear my own music without my headphones being drowned out!) Equipment problems addressed in a VERY timely manner. Good balance between circuit(s), weights, extra machines, racquetball, pool, hot tub, cold plunge. Did I mention CLEAN? They are continuously cleaning. There are trainers around the equipment most of the time -- and they actually will help you out! AND GRANDKIDS GET IN FREE! Between the cleanliness, staff and reasonable music levels I am glad I changed from the "gym up the road". Pools and courts a valuable bonus.

Let me start by saying I have never been to a gym before. I am a fat guy who has had weight issues all my life. I had MANY fears joining a gym but finally I did it. It is so comfortable there. The trainers are great and all in all I LOVE IT. I have gone almost everyday since I started. The racquetball is awesome. The machines are fun and the cinema room is amazing. Work out while watching football or Movies or any other show you want. Everyone gets there own personal tv with each machine. Cant say enough. Really great
