I am starting a very small business and had a graphic artist design some promotional material for me. I found the graphic artist online. She was experienced, she could do both internet graphics and printed material, and she had great feedback on the site. The one negative piece of feedback was from a woman that...well, lets just say that I dont share her aesthetic. I gave her a vague idea of what I wanted, and she came up with a design that was a perfect fit for me and my business. I loved it...the color was perfect, the graphics were perfect, and it was done for a very reasonable price. I just needed someone to print them. My father-in-law said that Sir Speedy was cheap and fast, and that they did a good job on his business cards (which were black and white, text only). Having recently graduated and still looking for a full-time job, cheap and fast sounded good. In retrospect, not so much. I walked into the shop on Guess Rd, and was greeted by a woman who looked none too happy to see me. The shop itself seemed tired and had that cheap motel smell to it. Although I had called to ask if I could bring the files to the shop on my flash drive and she said yes, when I got to the shop she acted extremely put out by the fact that I had brought the flash drive and not sent the files by email. She was grumbling under her breath about it. She got the files up, and I asked her if they could do what I wanted. She screeched for her partner to come out and look at the graphics, and then it started. They told me that the color was in the wrong format, that there was no bleed, that the designer must only do internet graphics, and more than insinuated that I was stupid for having hired her. Not to mention that when I told them what my business was, they looked at me as if I were insane. I suppose its hard to grasp the concept of someone wanting to hang lovely bits of custom framed vintage wallpaper in your house when your idea of art is a Thomas Kinkaid knockoff at Wal-Mart. Anyway, they told me that they would see if they could fix the problems, then would call me with an estimate. Big surprise...they never called me back. So, I went home, extremely upset, and contacted the designer. She was pretty mad and said that nothing was wrong with what she had sent, but that she would double check everything and re-send the files. She did, and I decided to go to another print shop in town (the one downtown thats locally owned and has been in business forever...you know the one). I was greeted warmly by the cheery woman at the front desk. The business has been there forever and looks it, but is brightly lit by natural light coming in from huge storefront windows, and has a nice, comfortable feel to it. While talking to the woman about what I needed, I realized that -doh!- I forgot to upload the "corrected" files. She told me that they would take a look anyway. Then their graphic artist looked at the files...looked at me...looked back at the files. He asked "what did she correct in the new files?". I told him and he said that there was nothing-NOTHING-wrong with the original files. There was bleed, the color was fine, etc, etc. They gave me a quote right away (which was reasonable despite the fact that a) they were 4 color process and b) I had to get more made than I wanted to) and had my cards ready within 48 hours. Plus, the woman at the front desk was genuinely nice and excited about my business plan. I just want to let those nasty "ladies" at Sir Speedy know that no one calls me stupid (or insinuates it). I do not play. Support your homegrown businesses and go downtown to Spee-dee-que. It may cost a bit more, but it is so worth it. Editing to add that the guy that I talked to at Spee-dee-que said that resizing or otherwise manipulating any of the graphics would be no problem whatsoever. The women at Sir Speedy acted as if it would be a Herculean task. Perhaps for them, it would have been.

Excellent experience all around!!! Sir Speedy handled all the various parts of our big complicated order perfectly and on time. We are a small non-profit with a big mailing list, and Sir Speedy printed our winter fundraising letter this year. Penny, who handled our order, was both friendly and efficient, and we were very impressed with both the quality of work and the speed at which it was completed. Sir Speedy made this process easy for us and we look forward to working with them more in the future.
