Terrible. I told the barber that I brush my hair forward but he tried to tell me that I needed to brush it back. He also gave me a style that made me look 15 years older so I had to go to another barber immediately after leaving his shop. He tried explaining to me how my hair acts, since its a little curly, as if I havent had my hair my entire life and know how my hair acts. Bottom line is he didnt know what to do with my hair and was frustrated and blaming me for him not knowing what to do. I tried being calm and clearly communicating what I wanted but he started to become confrontational and didnt want to give me what I wanted. He wanted me to suppress my own judgement of how i like to wear my hair and submit to the haircut that he would be able to give me. He seemed like a nice guy but it ended up being a bad experience. I cannot recommend him. Good luck!

I have coming here since I moved to Texas a year and a half now. I usually call ahead and Gilbert usually can get me in right away. So lucky I found this place. He does a great job, uses a straight razor old school style, and gets you on your way. Definately recommend coming here rather than those over priced places that do not provide the same service. I have been coming to this Barber shop for about ten years and even though I have to drive out of my way, it is still worth it to me to know what my hair will look like when I leave. Gilbert does a great job. It took me a long time to find a real Barber and Gilbert is the real deal. Take advantage of booking your appointment ahead of time so you do not have to wait!

Ive been seeing Gilbert for several years now at Avalon Barber Shop in the River Oaks area. When he moved to his new shop off Gessner and Westheimer I followed. There arent that many old school barber shops out there anymore where you can get a great haircut from a guy thats been doing nothing but mens hair for several decades.

The first time I went to Woodlake, Gilbert did a fantastic job cutting my hair. Ive been coming back ever since. I dont have the easiest hair to cut by any means, and I have had a lot of bad cuts over my life. This has never been the case with Gilbert. The guy knows what he is doing.
