This was our first year at the DAOM and will be our last. Our daughter was in the pre-k group. The staff was nice and she had a lot of fun while there. The instructor seemed in control of the classroom from what I saw on the two observation days. However, restrictive policies make this a bad choice for parents. Classes for that age group are an hour long and go from September until June. If you believe your four-year-old might become disinterested after nine months of dance, please consider this factor heavily. If your child misses more than five classes in that time, she will not be allowed to dance in the production. You will not be refunded the $180 in production fees. This year, the academy followed the MISD schedule. This means that for those of us that signed up for a Monday class, we were scheduled to receive 5 less classes than those signed up on other days of the week and there was no cost offset. With the multiple bad weather days, we were actually out of class 8 days and got one makeup class on exception (as the policy is that academy does not schedule any makeups and your child may not attend a different class). I suppose I bear some of the blame in this instance since I simply assumed there would be an opportunity for make-up classes and did not actually ask. I emailed the director regarding my dissatisfaction with this issue. We were told they would not follow that schedule next year, but no price offset was offered for this year. They also follow the MISD schedule for bad weather regardless of current conditions. For example, when MISD cancelled school at 6am due to possible ice then at 10am the roads were melted and completely clear, the evening class was still cancelled. Your production fees do not include tights for the costumes. They do not include alterations, those will come out of your pocket or the pocket of your stage mom. If your child has ripped tights or the wrong tights, she will not be allowed to dance in the production. If your child has too many absences, she will not be allowed to dance in the production. If your child will not be still long enough for you to put on red lipstick, mascara, eyeshadow, foundation, and blush, she will not be allowed to dance in the production. Yes, even your three year old. There are no exceptions to refund the production fees per the policy. My daughter doesnt know, nor would she care, about all the restrictive policies of this studio. She had the stamina to go 9 months with little complaint. She got to do worship dance and talk about God while doing tap. But, for me, there was just too much in the way of bad policy for me to enjoy taking her here.

Theres not enough that can be said about what dance academy of Mansfield offers girls (and boys) in the world of dance. Yes, their technique is great, costumes are modest, and music is tasteful. But beyond those factors, there is a deep spiritual and worship element that is lacking from everyone other dance studio in the area. My daughter started at age 3, and has enthusiastically looked forward to the new year (and now summer camps) each year. She hasnt not lost any gusto and in fact any time I check in with her to make sure shes still enjoying it she responds emphatically,"yes mommy! I just want to dance to praise God all the time!" I mean thats what she is learning here! Incredible! And shes just 8 years old. Weve been here going on 6 years and used to live 10 mins away. Now we live 40 mins away and we make the drive for that response. Because lets be honest, that would not be instilled in her anywhere else. ALL the teachers are top notch. Ms Amy and Ms Christie love these children and consistently pour themselves out to serve. This can be seen clearly during the annual production. Its truly an amazing experience and you will feel the Holy Spirit and come away changed. Dance is costly no matter where you go-but at least I know my daughter is getting a abundance of truth and the Spirit as she learns and grows here.

Im not very happy with my short experience at the academy. My 4 yr old twins were kicked out on the first day (within the first 20 mins). One was kicked out for crying and the other was kicked out for "rolling on the floor." I understand that they are trying to create a very structured dance environment, but children are children. I would have been more sympathetic to the school if they would have been allowed to come back the next week for a second chance. Especially after I had already paid my $118 for the entire month. The director did offered me a credit for the $118 with the academy since they dismissed us, but we wont be back. The director also agreed to go against policy which is to bill on the second month even once you terminate since once again, they had released us. So I am grateful to the director for that. However, I feel as though my children were not really given a chance to learn the culture or adapt. For that reason, I would not recommend this program if your child does not have formal dance experience. My daughters will continue their dance career with the Dallas Black Dance Theater.

My daughter attended for the first time (in any dance setting) from 2013-2014 and participated in the end of year production in June. She was new to dance, and we felt her teacher and the staff at Dance Academy of Mansfield were very warm, welcoming and always there to go over any concern we had! My daughter always enjoyed herself and was ready to go again the next week! And as stated in some other reviews when there was concern about MISD schedule, they heard it and changed that. The pricing is highly reasonable, as we did shop around before choosing here! The policies are no different from any other Dance Academy we have seen, and considering the culture and structure needed to take this seriously into the future I would not expect anything different. We had 13 people in our family attend the production and it was absolutely amazing! I recommend them to anyone in the area! Due to job changes and family changes we had to move out of the area, which was a very sad thing for my daughter otherwise this would have been where she went this year as well!

This is my first year with DAOM and I have never experienced such a phenomenal dance production. You guys did such a fantastic job! We had invited some family and friends to the dance production and they all left in aww and practically in tears and joy and its still being talked about. You definitely could feel the holy spirit in the auditorium. I didnt take advantage of signing my daughter back up for the fall since she was unsure of her return. However, at the end of the night she told me that she loved dancing and wanted to do it again :) so I will make sure to sign her up for the fall. Again I just wanted to say what a phenomenal night it was! By the way she thinks Mrs. Kitty is the best teacher because she prays with her class.
