I hate to leave bad reviews, but i am tired of reading 4/5 or 5/5 stars and wondering WTH after I pay for a service. I moved to San Antonio 6 months ago. I have been in a constant search for a true barber. I am picky, i do want a barber who can actually fade hair, or trim a beard that is not one length all over. My attitude is that if i wanted a beard or hair that was all one length i would just amazon prime myself some clippers! I chose this place off the outstanding reviews, and assumed the couple of negative reviews were from just grumpy people....you cant please everyone. However, I have came to the conclusion that people whom rate these shops as 5 stars must not understand what a truly good barber shop can be. So for the experience..I call ahead of time and ask how they schedule appointments or if its first come first serve. I also ask the guy on the phone if they have anyone in the shop who trims beards and who is the best. His reply was " we all trim beards, but the owner Marilyn is the best". So as advised, i sign in and request Marilyn. First of all as one review states she is different and talks alot, but i do think she is a neat and genuine person at heart. With that said, my experience was not good. She made multiple attempts at trimming beard and it was obvious she has no clue how to do unless its all one length. The hair cut was good, but average at best (my haircut is simple). Other things that bothered me: 1. Use of a hair dryer to blow hair off? No compressor or vacuum system? 2. Safety razor, to shave neck and trim around beard? Btw i was bleeding mildly after. 3. Ray Charles could see my beard was all to hell and three times i had to tell her to fix major gaps or errors (big stuff).. Quit handing me the mirror hoping i will say yeah perfect! Trust me when i say, it was not the time to hand the client the mirror for the final inspection. So either she didnt care how it looked or she has lost her mind (both Unacceptable IMO). Again not horrible, but a very basic shop and skill level. Price is high for level of skill and service provided. If you are looking for a basic haircut, with nice warm towels then you will be happy. I personally can order clippers and warm some towels at home. In the end my hair and beard, ended up being very very short, one step above a "faded buzz cut and beard trim."

My experience happened 2 years ago. The reason Im just now writing this is because of how traumatizing an experience it was. I didnt get my hair cut by the owner, but by a Hispanic woman who had just started working there a few weeks earlier. I wanted to experience a straight razor shave and when I asked, she said yes, in fact, they offer that. Do I got a haircut and a shave, but it was by far the worst shave of my life and to this day I dont know why I paid for it, or go back and ask for my money back. The woman used a cold towel, a STANDARD DISPOSABLE razor (explained she had to get my hair down to length because it was thick. BS), barely even touched with the actual straight razor. That woman tore up my face! I know this sounds ridiculous but it truly does haunt me every now and then! She pressed against my skin with that disposable razor and passed over and over and memory tells me it looked like a used razor. I kid you not. I wish I had paid better attention and stopped her from tearing up my face. I had never had razor burn in my life so I didnt fully realize what the discomfort really was. I left with baby-butt smooth skin, and redness like a tomato, which I chalked up to just a little irritation. Oh no.... I had SCABS on my face for days. She even said to me as I was leaving, "I didnt cut you, you just have really thick hair." I didnt understand because I didnt realize yet that I was cut. Very few things in my life traumatized me, but this really did. Every time I have a little irritation from shaving I remember that experience. I shave almost never. I use trimmers. Mostly I just keep a beard.

Today I went out to find a barber that does clipper cuts on black hair on the NE side of San Antonio. My husband was very frustated that the nearest recommened black barber was 41miles away and the traffic was already backing up at 2pm. We got out our smart phones and called this shop that excepts walk ins. The shop was not busy so there was no wait. there were pics of all types of cuts including the latest black clipper cuts which was just what I wanted. You see I had long relaxed, thick black hair and wanted it cut all off and faded. Then a very nice lady came from the back that was not black.I decided to give her a try anyway and I am so Glad I did. Her shop was very clean and she was very professional. SHE DID A GREAT JOB. MY HAIR LOOKS SO GOOD. SHE FADED AND BLENDED this thick head of hair better than I have seen some black barbers do. My husband and I will be going to her on a regular basis. I had back surgery and she was very gentle with me so I will keep going to her to help maintain my new fabulous look.

Hands down best barber?? Excellent? no, dont think so, very average, hot in there too. I guess to save money. I had a man cut my hair but it sounds like this Marilyn is best. Maybe if I go back, I will wait for her. I did notice when I arrived that one man was waiting for her. Then, another man came in and put down his name to wait for her. Maybe thats where I went wrong. The price is good but you get what you pay for. The guy only had a brush to remove hair from face and neck. No air to remove it. I walked out of there itching to death with a ton of hair still on my face. The gentleman clearly does not know how to cut curly hair as the top looks pretty stupid right now. But so be it. Its 10 bux how much can I really expect. At least there was no wait.

By far the best barbershop Ive been here in San Antonio...staff is very friendly...the most popular hair cuter there Marilyn is quite a character(u will have to go to see what i mean), but u definitely get the vibe of her kindheartedness and well intentions right off the bat. When i first went ill admit the other barbers werent so convincing, but as Ive kept going i can assure you she has surrounded herself with a good team. I almost always feel i should leave at least 50 percent in tip on satisfaction alone. All in all great place, especially for me which im very picky about my hair. Its sort of become a routine family visit.

Got my hair cut by a guy named rick after no wait. Worked fast and efficient but stopped every now and again to ask me to double check to make sure I liked how it looked. I appreciated that a lot because I usually am too nervous to tell someone theyre doing a bad job. He kept giving me the mirror to double check until it was absolutely perfect. I was in and out in less than 15 minutes and felt better about my hair cut than I ever did going to stylers and discount shops. Tipped him almost 100% the cost and plan on returning in the future.
