Im writing a review response to Disappointed Dancer, who says she regrets sending her daughter to LWDT... I work with some of the phenomenal drummers who perform there and I have a couple of thoughts to share.... the performing arts are not for every enthusiastic youth, as is often proven on TV contests. Not to cast aspersions on your daughter but it may be she was done a favor in finding out how difficult dance is, whether as vocation or avocation. I hope that other parents and/or students who have other experiences here will share their thoughts, and I wonder if Disappointed Dancer was in discussions with staff there after the first rough day (I cannot imagine why they wouldnt be sensitive to her concerns). Since Ive heard nothing but good about this place and LW is an award-winning choreo, etc. my rating may balance one disappointed parents rating a little. Take heart: some of the greatest minds/talents go through turmoil to reach the top.

My experience with Lula Washington Dance Theatre has been great. She cares about how the students are trained and her classes are small enough to accommodate the individual needs of the students. She (as well as her staff) train the students in such a way that their talents are individually showcased during the recital and/or Christmas performances. She makes sure the students are spaced in such a way that each parent/relative/friend will be able to see their child perform. Last but not least, her prices are affordable to accomodate parents who have minimum income but still wish to have their child receive the gifted training which she offers in order for our children to pursue their passion/dream of dancing.

As a former dancer for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and broadway musical, The Lion King, Im thrilled to teach at the LWDT. This studio provides a wholesome environment for children to experience the art of dance. Students here can recieve a fair amount of integrity, discipline, and refinement that will carry them throughout their lives regardless of whether or not they become professional dancers. Lula Washington is a much needed treasure to the community and Im happy to be a part of this incredible staff.

Lula Washington, master choreographer of "AVATAR", thrilled and excited Grand Performances audience with the artistry and skill of her professional, international dance company. The Lula Washington Dance Theatre set the night ablaze with colorful costumes, magnificient leaps, spins, thundering drums and children jumping rope and twirling hola hoops. What a time...What a time... I cant wait to see the next performance of the Lula Washington Dance Theatre.

I have decided not to allow my daughter to attend this dance studio after calling and reading the reviews. A teachers response about performing arts not being for everyone below. Which, I found to be very disrespectful to say such a thing about a child, which lead me to believe the others reviews about that staff/teachers being horrible... Will kept looking elsewhere

The training is excellent. The staff cares. Its a family environment. You will get tough love, with an emphasis on the love. The relationships built there, for me has lasted over twenty years strong!
