If I could give this school 0 stars, I would. I completed the program at Blake Austin College for cosmetology. First off, this school is a complete MIRAGE. Its a beautiful school and you can tell they invested a lot of money into making the school LOOK awesome, but as far as education, this school is awful. The whole point of cosmetology school is to prepare you for your state board exam.... this school did the exact opposite. We prepped for state board ONCE! If it wasnt for me, studying on my own and running through state board on my own, and asking other graduates who passed their test, I wouldve failed. There were times where I missed out on important state board information/classes because I was busy with clients, when I shouldve been blocked off. I completed all of my practicals for haircuts and hair colors, yet, thats exactly what they would book me for when I shouldve been getting state board prep... I truly felt like I was just there to make the school money, and none of the staff cared about my education, which shouldve came first. Theyve double booked me for hair colors several times, in which Ive had to stay past my scheduled hours (8 hour days) making it a total of about 9 1/2 hours, which included no lunch, only to get my time card at the end of the month to see that they messed with my hours. They clocked me out for lunches I did not take and Ive even had issues with them saying I was absent for the entire day when I was definitely clocked in for a total of 9 hours... save your money and go to solano.. the tuition for this school is outrageously expensive, for education that is not nearly worth that amount. The owner is awful, extremely rude and doesnt care about the students. She only cares if the school is clean. Save your money. The school is a scam. I would never want another student to go through what I went through.

Where to start? Blake Austin is not a place where you can go and get hands on learning.. If your going to pay $21,000 for school you might want to go somewhere else. It might not be as pretty but im sure you would get a better education. This school does not let sudents work on each other.. Well you can if you pay! As if the student is not payin $21,000 ALREADY! The students learn most of their stuff when a client comes in and wants it done. The teachers try as hard as they can to teach but the owner dont think the students need extra classes or to work on each other to learn. The students learn what they are going to learn in their first 300 Hrs after that they are on their own. Most times i see students just sitting around with nothing to do. The salon is pretty much a gohst town.. I feel bad for people who pay so much for so little education, The owner who is never there is always changing dress code students are always having to buy new pants and shoes because the owner cant make up her mind what she wants her students to wear. The students are great at what they do when they get the chance to do it. There are two day time teachers that are great they put up with a lot at Blake Austin. I fell if this school wants to make it far they need to chill on the little things and try and figure out a way to lower the prices so they can get more clents in there.. I would NEVER have someone i know go to school here.. Its a shame such a nice looking school in such a great location wont last long.. Good luck Blake Austin.

I was not going to leave a review but as I read the review from two years ago I see that nothing has changed in the cosmotolegy side and the school is still ripping students off on money and an education so here I am. Not only are you paying thousands of dollars more than any beauty school in the area, you are also not learning half of what any beauty school is teaching their students. You still have to pay to get services done by other students and hands on is how you learn, practicing on doll heads is not going to help in real life. The school does not give you the option to take advanced classes or even give you hours for extra classes you are taking but will instead SUSPEND YOU for taking advanced classes if it falls on a Friday or Saturday, which it most likely will. even though it does not say that in the handbook. The owner is only money hungry and does not care that you are NOT getting a good education. Rules are constantly being changed and you end up having to buy new shoes and new clothes to keep up with the always changing policies. Now lets get started on the shortness of teachers who end up having us teach ourselves or go on autopilot which results in many students doing nothing and teaching ourselves. I wouldnt recommend.

I am a student at Blake Austin and I couldnt be happier with the school that I chose! The entire staff is so friendly, they really make you feel like family. From the front desk to the instructors, even to the financial aid people, theyre all so warm and welcoming. This is an awesome school and we learn so much. The instructors know what they are talking about and are SO helpful when it comes to giving tips and tricks. They will answer all of your questions thoroughly and make sure you are 100% comfortable and understanding of what you are learning. I couldnt have picked a better school and family to be apart of. If you are looking for an extraordinary education on beauty and wellness, Blake Austin is the PERFECT place. I also wanted to give a BIG shoutout to Kearney Smith who has been working on my hair the last few weeks. Lifting black is not easy but she has made it such an easy going and painless process. I wasnt too sure about lightening my hair with all that bleach, but my hair is still as soft as it was when I first cut it! She is such an amazing, friendly, outgoing, caring student who will give her client EXACTLY what they want and wont let them leave unless they are satisfied. Great job Kearney!! Youre awesome!

I am currently enrolled in the night time cosmetology program at Blake Austin Beauty Academy with Miss Kayla as my Instructor. I can honestly say that coming to Blake Austin to start my new Career path has been the best decision I have ever made. I have searched high and low for a school that would work with my full time work schedule. I live in Petaluma which is about 100 miles round trip five days a week. I know you all must think I am crazy, but honestly it is worth every mile. When I met with Nicole at Blake she sat down with me and got to know me on a personal level. She told me that together we were going to get me into school, and next thing you know I was enrolled. She went that extra mile to help me start my career when other people just gave up because they couldnt see me being able to work full time job and go to school. The staff at the school make new careers happen.
