When I lived in Hamden I would come to Best Video to rent my movies. They have always been very personable and we always able to recommend the "perfect" movie for those nights you werent sure what to rent. Its been about 10 years since I have been in Best Video and it was due to many reasons. I live about 40 minutes away and because of technology I just usually use on demand or Netflix, Hulu or other streaming apps. Last night I came back as they have opened store at night as a coffee bar for performances. Their coffee bar includes lattes, expresso, wine and even beer. I will definitely be back in the near future to check out other performances! Hats off to the owner for expanding the store for an even better experience. I was there from 7:30-9:30 with a 10.00 admission. Whether it is for the performances or for a movie, I highly recommend!

Best Video may be the last video store in Connecticut. Just saying those words may make you think they are just like the last buggy whip maker in town. You would be oh so very, very wrong. Sure, they are probably the last video store in CT. But they are so much more than that. They have a coffee shop with free wifi. But more importantly, they are also a newly-formed non-profit cultural center. There are weekly music and other cultural events there for a very modest $5 cover charge. Which is money very well spent. And of course, it should go without saying they have an incredible selection of movies, mostly DVD and Blu Ray, but even some VHS still lurking around. The friendly staff has a great deal of movie knowledge stored up to share for those times when you cant decide on what to get. Mike, Hank and Richard certainly know their stuff!

If you ask them for an obscure foreign film, chances are theyll be able to find it on one of their shelves for you. They have a great selection available in-store, on demand. But dont expect them to be clear about the conditions attached to the extended membership (where you get 12 prepaid rentals). You cant use the prepaid rental for the 2-for-1 deal they offer on Mon-Wed, even if you did technically pay for the one in advance. And if you ask them why this is the case, they will not necessarily reply in a professional manner.

I love this place!! One of my favorite coffee shops in CT. Not only can you grab a cup of great coffee, but you can also rent videos (the last video rental place in CT). The staff is super cool and its a great place to hang out and work or just chat with the people that come in. Pet friendly. They also have live shows some nights (music). And the most delightful thing... the kettle corn popcorn they sell at the front. Its locally made and absolutely delicious! You cant go wrong here!!

They outlived Blockbuster. They survived Tommy Ks. Now they serve coffee and have music performances. And they still have the best selection of videos, maybe even a more significant selection than Netflix. See you there.

Quirky and comfortable. You never know what kind of music will be on when you step in, or what movies will be available for borrowing (as a member) but you know it will be interesting.

This is the best video store ever, I wish I discovered it sooner. Its a little of a drive from downtown, but they have EVERYTHING. Especially older cult movies my daughter likes.
