Let me start by saying that this is my first bad review of a haircut - ever. I have had my hair very short and very long, and everywhere in between. I have been wearing it medium-short (ear level) for the last year or so and have loved it. I have wavy hair, and needed no maintenance whatsoever. I moved from florida and tried a new hair cutter in Stamford, who "thinned my hair" 4 months ago. I did not like it - but it was not horrible. So, after much looking I decided to give this a try. After all, their motto is wash and go, wavy/curly hair --just what I like, and they would not "thin my hair out". I sat with Jo, showed her pictures (the SAME pictures I used a year ago to her my last fabulous chop from super long to short in Florida) as well as a picture of myself with my Florida haircut which I loved. She instantly understood and corroborated that "thinning" hair is not good for hair like mine. I felt we were on the same page. I even went on made sure she understood that "it is currently too thin at the bottom", making it shaggy/thin and not full. Great. I must say, I had my reservations of booking an appt with Jo based on other reviews that she does not listen very well. I thought I had done a good job at explaining my needs and therefore felt good when she started to cut. Well... after the cut/dry...my hair was puffy on top and thin at the bottom.....just like what I SAID I hate, and nothing lie the pictures. Including MY OWN picture with a recent haircut which I loved. She then went on to say that "well, in this one picture, the layers are short, therefore I understood..." and I am looking at the pictures (about 8, all with the same theme, of long layers, medium length, full hair) and she is focusing on one where maybe there is a short layer somewhere.I look at the pictures, then at my hair...and they are NOTHING alike. I am perplexed. I have a "helmet" look of puffy hair everywhere and thin at the bottom, at ear level. OK...she offers to cut it a little shorter to get rid of the"thin stuff at the bottom". OK. THEN, WHAT HAPPENS IS ATROCIOUS: instead of going slow on the fix, asking questions like (this length ok?" SHE CHOPS ABOUT 2 INCHES OFF, ALL AROUND IN ABOUT 30 SECONDS. BAM. THOSE WERE THE ONLY 2 INCHES OF LENGTH ALL AROUND. JUST LIKE THAT.NOW MY LONGEST WAVY HAIR IS ABOVE MY EAR LEVEL. I cant even tuck it behind my ear!!!! I have been so upset since leaving that place. My husband opened the door and said "bad hair day?".... She apologized and said to return if I needed something fixed. What hair? It is not even fixable,,,because there is not length left to play with. For some absurd reason, when I was unhappy with the cut, she decided to chop it ALL off. Not a bit. Not in the back. All around, judging from the reviews - people are right, She does not listen well. She makes a lot of assumptions, She may hear you out. But does not ask any questions.

After tirelessly searching for a new salon and stylist, I happened upon the JoBruno Website, simply because of the stellar reviews. Im African American, so honestly, I approached with caution because I wasnt sure if I would get the results that I wanted, regardless if I wanted a curly or straight style. Well let me tell you, this was the MOST AMAZING experience I have ever had at salon. From the 1st call, it was evident that they were all about my needs and what I wanted. My stylist is Jane. We clicked immediately at the complimentary consult. My 1st visit I decided to go for a cut, color correction (to cover my blonde highlights) and a Deva Curl Style (I do have relaxed hair by the way and although they ARE a natural hair salon, I did not feel pressured to chop of all of my relaxed hair and start from scratch). Everything went awesome. Jane is a master with those scissors! I love my cut! No more ponytails for me! I can finally wear it down in a cute style with little to no work. Jane did a great job in educating me about hair care and products, which is really important to me. Everyone was so attentive. (The complimentary red wine didnt hurt either! As a mother of 2 little ones, I felt pampered) My 2nd visit I decided to go for a blow-out and flat iron. My hair was so beautiful, soft, light and free! I loved it. I have been raving about the salon since the 1st call. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone. Now I know why the reviews are so stellar. If I could give more stars I would. (Thanks Jane!)

Certainly not the place for me. I have thick, extremely curly hair. For starters, Jo Bruno is pretty expensive. But, I was willing to pay up because I rarely get my hair done and figured Id treat myself. The wash was nice and relaxing, but when it came to detangling, I could feel my hair being torn and yanked by whatever comb was being used. My head was really sore after this, and though I knew my hair would take some combing out, it has never hurt this badly when Ive done it myself. After this, the woman blew and straightened my hair. This part of the process was fine, however, the stylist mentioned that she was using very little product in my hair so as not to weigh it down. She also mentioned that I looked like I needed a trim. Not wanting to pay any more than the $110 I was already paying, I opted out, which is totally on me. From start to finish, this all took a little over 3 hours. All said and done, by the time I got home, my hair had already frizzed up. I ended up trimming my own hair and re-straightening it before the day was done. It didnt last more than a week after that. And now, after having visited a different salon that cost me $70, took just under 2 hours, caused no pain throughout the entire process, AND my hair looks and feels better than it has ever in my life, no exaggeration, I know that Jo Bruno is not for me.

Went to Jo Bruno Hair for the first time at the beginning of this month--had been advised by friends that I needed to experience a curly hair hair cut (since Id recently accepted that I DO have curly hair...) and was trying to decide between Jo Bruno and the workshop, but the reviews for Jo Bruno were much more favorable. And everyone was right! I made an appointment with Jo and she was great about asking me to describe what I wanted and asking me if I was ready before she cut off more than a foot of my hair. When I went to have my hair washed and conditioned, Ashley did a great job of explaining everything she was using and doing and showing how I could recreate it at home. Jo gave me some tips for creating volume and then styled my hair after it was dry. NO ONE pressured me to buy any products, but I bought a bunch anyway because they were the best prices Id seen for DevaCurl products. Ive gotten tons of compliments on my cut, and its super encouraging that I am able to recreate the look from my appointment after going home--thats not usually how haircuts have worked for me! I will definitely be back, and Ive recommended them to all my curly-haired friends. Super great!
