Ive been coming to Soho for over 12 years. It started when I saw someones hair that was nicely cut and was shocked to find out that she had it cut 6 months prior. Now THATs a good haircut. So it began.. In between that time and today, I lived in NYC for 5 years, went to a wide range of salons, less expensive to very expensive, and did not find the cutting ability like that at Soho. Now that Ive started to get the nasty grays, Ive also moved on to coloring and have always received rave reviews from others. The thing thats great about Soho stylists is that they are required to learn the latest trends by going to different classes-- so theyre always on top of all the possibilities to fabulize your locks! Currently, my hairstylist is Kacey, whose sense of humour makes the 2 hours I get to hang out with her very fun! She gets my style, works hard to make sure Im happy-- but doesnt really have to do much because shes very talented. She listens to her clients, does what they ask but will warn if something will not work because of your hair circumstances. I would love to have hair like Sofia Vergarra, but alas! my DNA does not allow it to be.. She is tough to get an appointment with-- shes that good-- so you usually need to call about a month out. Ive had some attitude from front desk staff, but not lately. The prices are a bit on the higher side, but after going to other salons, Ive found that its worth it. You pay for what you get and what you get here is gooood.

I tried going to this place 3 for 3 or 4 hair cuts when I first moved to New Haven because it got such good reviews. I have to say that I was really unhappy with everything I had done. I went back because I wanted to give them a chance but it never ended well. At the time I had a structured bob and the stylist I worked with repeatedly gave me a very amateurish uninspired version of what I asked for. Every time I came back I tried to explain very clearly the little changes I wanted to make, brought pics and so on. Sadly each time it was the same outcome. My stylist was also painfully slow, the cut that usually took 30 min tops to trim up would take at least 45 min to an hour. I also tried getting color done. I had no previous color in my hair and the process that they told me would be "easy" took a ridiculous amount of time(another hour and a half after the cut). I had to sit all alone with a crazy spinning heat machine(never seen anything like it before) whirling around my head. It was really uncomfortable and it felt like it burned my scalp. The color was not what I had been promised and it washed out pretty much immediately. Seriously I would never go back for any type of service. Really such a waste of money; it was depressing. I go to a salon in downtown now and and extremely happy with the talent and service(wont mention the name so you know Im not a competitor). Sorry but thats the truth.

So ill give them an average review because as far as the service and my hairstylist went it was great. She was very helpful, knew exactly what she was doing and what i wanted, and gave me one of the best haircuts of my life. Everyone seemed to be very friendly although i wouldnt be surprised that it was because there was a man (who im guessing to be the owner) was watching like a hawk over everyone at the front desk. Felt more like a dictatorship than a fun, relaxing atmosphere.. HOWEVER, I have tried almost all of the "upper scale" salons in the new haven area and with Sohos reputation and awards i went in thinking this would be a chic and trendy place... Walking in i was shocked at how simple, outdated, and to be quite honest how hideous the decor was. The stations are cheap blue counters against a bright orange wall. i almost wanted to walk out but tried to keep an open mind and remember the great reviews. I would recommend they update asap for the simple fact that they may turn people away for the atmosphere.

I moved from PA two years ago and have been trying to find a salon up in CT. I have been going home to PA for the past two years to get my hair done. I am very picky about my hair. I tried a salon in Fairfield the beginning of this year and absolutely hated it. I was ready to give up and then I found Soho, I called and told the receptionist that I am very picky and I need to make sure I go to someone great. I had my first appt with Tiffany and she is the best!!!! I loved the color that she did I left there so happy and have had nothing but the best comments since I left. I am going back to get my hair cut and cant wait. It was so nice to find a place near me and not have to drive home to PA. Everyone there was so nice and I felt very welcome. I would recommend them to anyone. If you want someone who can get a vision of what would look good on you then go to Tiffany, she did exactly what Ive always thought about with color on my hair. She is truly an artist and what she does.

I love Soho for many reasons. Number one is my stylist KC. She really listens to what Im hoping for, translates it into reality and does it beautifully. Her haircuts grow out great, dont need a lot of product and always get compliments for me. I also appreciate that the music at the salon is not just current pop hits -- a mix of 80s hits, classic jazz, current indy pop, and not too loud. Scheduling has always been easy (I appreciate the email and phone reminders) and the *one* time I was kept waiting they offered me a discount. I feel like I get really high quality service here with no unnecessary hassles. There are certainly less expensive places to get your hair done, but I feel that its worth it for a reliably great haircut in a nice environment.

I had been a loyal customer at Soho for the last 2 years when I recommended them to a friend. Three days ago, my friend went there for a cut & blow-dry. This was only 10 days after having given birth to her son. When she showed up at the salon with her sleeping newborn, she was told she couldnt bring him in and that shed have to leave him at the front of the salon next to the coat closet! Even when my friend started to cry, they insisted the baby be left at the front -- alone! What kind of business doesnt allow a sleeping newborn to stay with his mother? Hee a human being, not a pet! I wont be recommending Soho to anyone else (I was so embarrassed that I had sent her there in the first place) and I certainly wont be returning!

I wanted my hair highlighted with golden blonde highlights. My hair was an orangey brown (from other colors fading thru). Instead my hair came out looking GREY!!! Im 24 and I looked like a 70 year old trying to look hip. They tried to fix it and ending up mading the bottom portion of my hair black and bringing the top back to dark brown. I was in there for 4 1/2 hours!! When I asked for my money back they refused, when I asked to speak with the owner they refused to give me his name and said he might get back to me. They told me it would fade. Who wants to spend over $200 and wait 3 weeks to get the color they want? I wont be going back. They dont listen there!
