I had been a member of LA Fitness since 2010. Over the years, there has been a steady decline in customer service standards provided by the Gym, and stench of their lackadaisical attitude has been permeating for a while. I dont blame the trainers, the person at the door or the attendants. This is clearly a failure on the part of management with trickles down into everyone. In the past few months I know of atleast half a dozen people who quit this gym and joined other gyms which might not compete as far as equipment is concerned, but have better environments. The staff seems to have a laissez-faire attitude towards existing customers. To give one example, Several time over the years, on signing in their computer system would say that my membership was suspended and then i would wait for 5-10 mins while the person at the desk (often the same guy on different days) would verify that it was system error on their side before letting me in. The other day, on swiping my card, a face of different customer popped up and they took my card away saying i was impersonating someone. Their first reaction was to blame me, and after further investigation on my repeated insistence, they saw that for some reason, their system had myself and another person on the same Key Tag. Even after this, they wouldnt let me in without a photo ID which i didnt have since i dont carry my wallet to the gym. To summarize, due to their error, my Key tag that i have been using for 3+ years was confiscated, I was accused without even a customary investigation of impersonating another member, I went back home, came back with my ID, CC to show them that I was not impersonating someone (which they could then verify by simply clicking on my membership on their system instead of wasting half an hour of my time). Just another example of who gives a **** about them once they sign up attitude Needless to say i cancelled my membership on the spot and am happier for it.

I joined about two months ago, and now that Ive gotten to know the gym and some of the people, my opinion of it has drastically changed for the better. At first glance, its not the best gym in the world, but the few flaws it does have are heavily outweighed by the positives. Pros: -lots of machines, cardio equipment, benches, etc. -two floors; top floor for more experienced lifters, lower floor for beginners/less experienced -price $30ish per month depending on sale/deal at the time -swimming pool -basketball court Cons: -dumbbells and weights are disorganized at times -locker room has a bad smell -very heavy sales pitch by staff Overall: If youre a semi-experienced lifter strictly looking to workout, this is the place to go. The locker rooms have a slight smell, but the staff gives a strong effort to make sure the gym floor and locker rooms are clean. I feel as if a mildew smell established awhile back, and theyve just been unable to get rid of it. Regardless, the smell isnt overwhelming to the point of not working out. The price is very fair, just dont back down during the sales pitch. The only major flaw is the negligence by some of the members. The majority are friendly, but some just do not understand gym etiquette with reracking weights, putting dumbbells in the correct spot, etc. Staff members make a conceited effort to make sure the gym floor is organized, but its understandable that they cannot patrol the gym floor every 10 minutes. Nonetheless, its a great gym for lifting and never having to wait for a machine or bench. If youre new to joining a gym, or very concerned about cleanliness, I would give the gym a chance before ruling it out. Orlando is a salesman there and is very kind and welcoming so I would suggest asking for him if possible.

i joined the L.A fitness about 2 months ago due to suddenly financial changes in my life. I have been a member at different health clubs -from YMCA, NYSC, Equinox and the last Sportsplex which i joined for several years B4 L.A fitness. That gives me enough background to be critical and being able to give a grounded opinion about L. A fitness. Let me start with the parking: its just annoying, they have a parking lot for about 50 people and a few off the street (metered) but when you get there theres about 200 people in the club and the smell inside the gym is unbearable due to ventilation issues. They only handle very cheap paper towels and antibacterial sprays (no towels for free) and most of people seem needless of towels cause the sweat just runs down their bodies, so imagine that scenario; well, so you keep focus on doing your business no mater what goes around, then you think, maybe at the end i take the sauna and relax! Good luck with that! cause you may find people inside the sauna with sweat clothes and sneakers, yeah! sweat sneakers inside or in my husbands case when trying to relax in there and just watched this: an old guy was just brushing his teeth in there while another one was shaving his head inside the sauna...aha. It gets better, my first time in the pool, having a great time swimming when i just happen to stop and the girl sharing the lane with me was blowing her nose inside the water and more..., i mean, all these things just exceeded what i consider gross & disgusting, but if you join welcome to the jungle!

Manager (Julian) was extremely rude and is only interested in taking your money. Yesterday, I signed up for LA Fitness after a short tour and a pressured sales pitch by Julian. I had not yet checked with my current gym on cancellation policies. As it turned out, my current gym was extremely kind and provided extra weeks of membership to tide me over since Ive been a loyal member and was just laid off. Tonight, I came in and told Julian that I needed to cancel the contract. He said no problem and informed me that he would simply write VOID across the document and I would receive an email in 12 hours confirming the cancellation. When I asked for a printed confirmation, he repeated that it would take twelve hours to process and that the receipt would be emailed. When I insisted that I be given printed confirmation, he went on to insult me. When I said that I was stressed out because I had just been laid off and didnt need additional stress, he rudely stated "dont take it out on me, Im not the one who made you lose your job". Then he rudely escorted me out the door. When I arrived home, I received an email that the cancellation had been processed (and the email was sent within 5 minutes after my request for cancellation). I dont know why he had to make such a big issue of providing written confirmation especially when the email only took 1 minute to be sent by the system. Also, this is 2010- printers are abundant; there wasnt a problem printing the original contract when they took my money. . .

I went to LA Fitness Stamford for the first time yesterday and found this location to be the worst among all the LA Fitness locations in CT. First, the swimming pool is dirty and has no spa. Second, The locker room is very filthy and smell bad. Third, the machines are very old without new replacements. Fourth, during my 3hrs stay, i found the gym dont spend $$ to hire cleaning people to keep the gym clean. Were talking about a overcrowded gym where members pay $30-50 per month. The managers must be pocketing all members $$. Lastly, they have the worst customer services i experienced. I left my swimsuit in the saunas room and called the front immediately to check it for me because i live more than half hour away. There are at least 5-10 staff working in the front but the front told me he doesnt have a minute to check the saunas room to see if the swimsuit is still there. However, hell check it after the gym is closed, which is 3hrs later. of course its lost now because either cleaning people throw it away or someone else took it. I cant believe they wont even send a person to check the saunas room when its right next to the front desk, its like they dont care about customers at all. I wont complaint about the customer service if they sent a person to check, whether its still there or not. What an unpleasant experience, a $40 monthly fee gym with a $10 (planet fitness like) quality. Avoid this gym by going to other la fitness locations or a different gym in stamford.
