Perhaps my hair issue is more complicated than most clients that they have gotten in the salon, and perhaps my color stylist wasnt well versed enough for the task, but I feel that he didnt quite understand what was needed and made decisions and did things that seemed to make things worse. He never seemed to understand what it was that was needed and kept overcompensating. I have resistant grey hairs and a lighter level of brown didnt seem to color them when he first applied the hair color on my roots. I also have fast growing hair, so that my roots need to be touched up every two weeks. The color was too light the first time he did color on me and didnt cover the resistant grays, so the next time we decided together to do a darker brown at the roots but add highlights to disguise the grays for when they grow in. He didnt touch up the highlights at the roots the second time around so that I had dark roots and then the grey showed prominently as they grew in, and he didnt do a glaze (which I asked him to do to tone down the highlights - but he refused for some reason that made no sense) so that the next time that I came in my hair was orange. When I asked him to add a little ash to the same level of glaze color that he used last time to prevent it going orange he said that he didnt like ash. He didnt communicate with me what he was doing next, but decided on his own to cover the whole head with a much darker glaze, which then was too dark, then the highlights were totally obliterated and I was back to square one, with an overall dark color that didnt disguise the gray roots for when they grow back in. I asked him if we could come up with a plan that would work. After washing my hair several times, some of the highlights started to show again, so we decided, together, to do the roots again in the darker color that covers the resistant grays and then re-add highlights at the roots and extend them to some of the highlights that were showing farther down towards the ends. I guess he used the lighter level of color on my roots instead of the darker level that covers the gray and then when he highlighted some sections they matched the root color so that my roots were light and the rest of my hair was dark. It was a fiasco. When I contacted the salon owner about correcting the problem she said that he was bending over backwards to help me, and kind of blamed it on me, and not on his bad communication and listening skills or poor choices. She did say that she would refund my money, but said that they couldnt correct it and that I should go elsewhere. I went back to my old salon and they fixed it. It was a simple fix. They just put a darker glaze on it. Something that the other salon should have figured out and fixed,

I have followed Patrick to a few salons. So his technique and capabilities are no mystery to me. He is an artist with cut and color. He makes you feel like a shiny new penny when you walk out the door. I have also had the privilege of seeing Michael at work and I think he is excellent at what he does as well. I think the salon is very professional when I come in and they take care of me right away (and pleasantly). Knowing Patrick and Michael from prior salons, they take their work seriously as well as their work environment. It is no surprise to me that the rest of the people at Fringe would be just as pleasant and good at what they do. Id also like to point out that the products at the salon are excellent as well. They have a great selection of Dermalogica, which can be hard to find in Chicago.

Very disappointed in the service I received here. The deals offered are for their brand new stylists that the owner has not trained properly. The owner attempted to make their mistake right but it was done in a very ungracious and awkward manner I was made to feel that fixing my hair was huge pain for her even though it was her stylist who made the HUGE mistake with my hair. Who uses a hair brightner for blondes on a brunette expecting a conditioning treatment??? While fixing my hair I even overheard the new stylist state how awful and awkward she felt having to be in the salon with me after she brightened my hair in BLOTCHES. How do you think I felt with my hair like that and having to come back and hear you say such things??? Grow up. I will not be back and do not recommend coming here.

The miracle that Molly pulled on my hair was unreal. I came in with a faded ombre of about three different colors, (dont use Ion dye at home, folks) and I walked out with a gorgeous, even, frosty white/grey bayalage. She was very down to earth, easy to talk to, and this was probably the fastest hair appointment Ive had in my life. The salon is very open and clean, and you dont feel claustrophobic around other clients getting their hair done. Everyone was super friendly and accommodating too. I will definitely be back to see Molly at this salon again!

I was randomly paired with Sarah the first time I wandered in and it was a perfect match. Shes very patient and quirky. I think the first time I went there it was an hour and a half session of us just slowly constructing my ideal look. She didnt rush at all and used very modern techniques. I could tell shes very informed and interested in her job. I get more compliments then ever on my hair now, I even got "Its a work of art" a couple times, basically, I dont think Ill be venturing anywhere new for quite a while.

I had an appointment for a blow out that was $30. Lady (Stephanie) asks me what Im having done today. I say maybe a pony tail with loose curls if youre going to style it. Ok great. Puts the most basic early 2000s, cant move my banana curls pony in my hair and charges $75. Honestly. To be fair, after I questioned this obvious monstrosity my charge was reduced. Still an upsetting experience

This salon has such a great location in the heart of Wicker Park. The environment is fun and friendly. I have had my hair done there for several years and I always leave feeling amazing! The spa and nail services in the spa are top notch. They are the absolute best at nail art. I would 100% recommend this salon to everyone.

Beyond the fact that my haircut was tear inspiring, the management was totally unresponsive. The "stylist" was more concerned with what she wanted than giving me a style that was flattering, cute and manageable. The whole experience leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Bad, bad, bad.

If you want an amazing natural looking balayage or ombre, go to Molly! Best balayage Ive ever got. She does such a good job with color and gives the best haircuts too. The salon is really big and cute inside and everyone who works there was so nice!
