I used to work there as a wait staff a few years back. Food is good but not justifiable for the price. One of the nicest food in the region but nothing but ordinary compare to restaurants in bigger cities like Madison or Chicago. Terrible place to work for one thing. Female staffs were paid substantially lower than male staffs even though female staffs actually worked twice as long. One time they made me work from 4 pm - 3 am serving for a charity fund raising event. For solid 11 hours of work they paid me $60 without any tip which is way below state minimum wage and quite frankly illegal. But they paid $100 male staffs who worked from midnight-3 am. That is just one of many examples how they show more favor to male staffs. Worse, even though they let us go home at 3:30 am that night, they expected me to be back for work 4 hours later at 7:30 am for Mothers Day brunch. When I said I have been on feet all day for 12 hours, and that I needed more than 2 and a half hours of sleep, they told me to suck it up cuz I am young. Not worth $5/ hour to get through this kind of crap!

We came to Galena for our first vacation as a family. We heard great things about this famous restaurant, but little did we know, they dont prefer children. My wife and I walked in with our 9 month old son and we were told they dont have high-chairs or booster seats. Ive never been to a restaurant that doesnt welcome children. If they say they welcome children, they certainly dont accommodate them. After the hostess told us they dont have high-chairs, we were uncertain if we would stay. The hostess wasnt apologetic at all and referred us to a bar/grill next door. We then found a great restaurant named One Eleven Main that accommodated our family and had a wonderful menu that wasnt a burger and fries, as the hostess from Fried Green Tomatoes referred us to. I would never go to this restaurant, even without children, just because of the way they treated my family. There are plenty of restaurants in the area that have excellent food. So if you have a family, dont make the mistake of going to this restaurant.

wait staff was super nice and helpful. but if u want good food this is not the place to come. i ordered chick parm here (pretty hard to screw up right ?) wrong. the chicken first came out not pounded and not trimmed and not fried ( muscle tendons were still there ). in true italian style chicken is pounded and fried this came out dry thick and grilled. the pasta was cooked right but the sauce tasted something out of a can ! the wait staff seen that i was happy and she offered me something else so i ordered the chefs special chicken marsela. once again chicken not pounded or trimmed. marsla sauce usually is a lil runny w lots of mushrooms and fresh herbs. this looked like motor oil w a ton of chuncks of onion and a few pieces of mushroom. remember has a kid those salsbury steak banquet tv dinners ? thats what the sauce taste like. very very dissapointed with this place. i have to admit i do give the staff 5 stars because they endeed up taking off both items off our bill bc i didnt eat either.

My wife and I ate there Saturday early evening. Weve eaten there once every few years. Wait staff was a 10. Ambiance was a 9. Fried green tomatoes were excellent as per previous visits : breaded lightly fried tomatoes baked with mozzarella and dusted with herbs served on marinara. I had mile high meatloaf which was a thick slice of cornbread under an equally thick slice of meatloaf covered with mashed potatoes topped with light breaded onions. There was a semi sweet reduction on the meatloaf and the plate. Trouble was the dish just didnt have any counter for the cornbread and it was too dry to be balanced by the meatloaf. Needed some butter, gravy or sauce but the presentation was nice. My wife is a vegetarian. She had the grilled romaine which was a split romaine heart topped with blue cheese dressing and assorted fresh veggies and cruts. She said it was very good. As others have said, its expensive but hey youre in Galena. Bottom line for us is do we want to go back? Yes we do.

fantastic food thats unfortunately ruined by a host / manager who has no idea how to treat customers properly. Nick was rude to my wife and I the moment we walked in - and it was for her 30th birthday dinner. while we were waiting (with reservations) for him to set up the restaurant that was already open for a few hours and serving customers he sat multiple other customers. he then approached my wife while I stepped away to claim he was clearing off his favorite table - which was suddenly unavailable when I returned. learn to under promise and over deliver, Nick. its a basic and important part of customer service its unfortunate that a great restaurant can keep someone who provides such piss poor customer service on staff and continue to lose customers. when I confronted him directly on his attitude he smirked and couldnt even be bothered to apologize. you can have great food, but without great service you will, eventually, fail.

Heard many good things about this restaurant and went there on a recommendation from a friend. Very, very disappointed with the service. It took 15 minutes after we (only two of us) were seated for someone to finally take our drink and dinner orders. It took another 15 minutes for our drinks, salad, and bread to be brought out. Still not sure who our waitress was, there were 2-3 different people (one took our orders, another brought our food, a different person brought our check). When we first arrived, all of the other tables in our area had people at them, but about 20 minutes in, tables started to empty and not have people seated again; So I am not able to excuse them on busy-ness. The food was good, but a bit overpriced. Overall, it should not take 1.5 hours for two people to eat at a restaurant (no appetizers or dessert).

I really had high hopes for this place when we came into town this week. We went on Thursday evening so it wasnt packed, but they still managed to mess up our $100 meal for two. To start, the salad wasnt great (even the croutons were bad) and the service was mediocre at best. When I received my filet mignon, it was very well done and I had requested medium. Not sure how they got so far off on that when they werent busy. The meat wasnt seasoned well so I tasted more like a roast from a crockpot. The saving grace of this place was the bread with Parmesan and oil. That was actually pretty good, but not worth the money all things considered. I will look elsewhere in town for a good steak next time Im in town.

The service was very fast, attentive, and friendly. The food was out of this world delicious. The bread with olive oil dipping sauce was like heavenly ambrosia seriously better than any other bread weve ever had. I had the espresso filet mignon practically melted like butter in your mouth so tender! Lobster ravioli OMG! Perfectly al dente cooked and very flavorful. With a couple glasses of wine, two entrees, and dessert the prices were very reasonable considering the quality of food and the service. The atmosphere was elegant yet comfortable-beautiful mixture stone, brick, copper nice backdrop. Would highly recommend.
