Suzies Cafe: Its okay... Good: Service, atmosphere, Cinnamon Roll, bread Bad: Coffee, value/price Ive been striking out lately on some local faves (Wings etc had a strike 2 for us also). My wife and I went to Suzies Cafe for breakfast Saturday morning after hearing the rave reviews. We ordered the Cinnamon Roll as a breakfast appetizer (breakfast appetizer is an interesting and awesome concept!). It is huge and very good. I mean HUGE. I ordered the meat omelette. My wife ordered the Country Skillet with the home-made bread. Im going to say that if you like cinnamon rolls and waffles and bread/dough-like products, then this place excels. But this is where the value starts to fall off. Those sort of items are CHEAP to make. Now, granted the cinnamon roll is beyond huge....we had so much left over that we took 3/4 of it home. But, they do not have a great re-heat reputation so, really, it is wasted. Breads, doughs, rolls generally are not a take home item. The country skillet was good but there was no or little meat in it. My omelette was good but nothing phenomenal. The fruit they served with was very good. The coffee was horrific....a step below office coffee if that is possible. But, I am a bit of a coffee-snob so I am sure if will be fine for most everyone. But there are great local roasters and there should be a well-displayed better coffee alternative to take this place up a notch. The good was that the service was very quick and attentive. Someone was always coming around for refills but not intrusive. It was $36 for the two of us ($30 + tip), we did not have alcohol (Im not even sure they serve breakfast/brunch alcohols). Seems about $10 more than it should be for the value....again only because breads, doughs, batters, & rolls are cheap filling options and the other stuff was "meh". Would we go back? Yeah, I suppose. But it is not a breakfast destination for me. My wife liked it more than I but she (like most) LOVES the dough/pancake/waffle/rolls bread/carb foodstuffs). I would rather pay a little more and do a brunch or pay a little less and it equal the value that was given.

Cute little cafe. Hometown country feel. Love to find these during my travels. Had an omelette that came with real huge pieces of fruit & toast. Asked for salsa for my omelette and it seemed homemade. Coffee was good! My waitress had red hair and some tattoos. She worked really hard and kept busy. There was a girl with glasses and a nose ring that was quite rude to the cook with a cubs cap on. I didnt think her behavior was very pleasant and you could tell it hurt the mans feelings. Just my observations tho! Otherwise I give this place a thumbs up!

I heard good things about suzies and told my wife to meet me there. By the time I got there she was already irate. She was with my 2 children and they wouldnt give her a table until I arrived. What is the difference between a 3 top and 4? Its not like she asked them to hold a huge table for 10. Once we did get a table the rudeness continued, we were stuck at a table meant for 2, so again what was the point of making them wait and the waitress treated us like we were lepers. I think the food was good but we were too angry to enjoy it.

by far the most advanced and highest level breakfastry in Valparaiso. Comparatively, astonishing! The food is made fresh with quality ingredients! I have tried every breakfast place in Valpo/merrillville and to be honest: no one is even close to the quality, value, or service of Suzies. The homemade toast is worth the price of an entee on its own. If you havent been here...you must hate America, or breakfast, and yourself. I implore you, get over your low self esteem and get the breakfast you deserve.

I went there yesterday for the first time around 10:30-11:00 am for some breakfast. We tried the cinnamon roll and the corned beef skillet special. Both were brought out super quicky. The cinnamon roll was easily enough for four people to share over coffee, I was quite filled after just a small portion of it. It was the day after St. Patricks so there was that corned beef special. My over medium eggs were so amazing. Mmmmmm, just finished my leftovers!

Went there to get some breakfast with my husband, and the food was delicious! The waitress was iffy to start, but after a little bit I began to like her. As we were paying, we decided to take a Coconut Cream Pie home, and it was by far the best pie I have ever eaten in my entire life. I was also surprised to see that it was the owner in the back making the pies. That gave them a lot of respect from me. Highly recommend this place!

THE BEST!!!! I love Suzies Cafe. I dont live in Valpo, but when my husband and I go up there to visit friends we ALWAYS make a stop or two at Suzies. I recommned the Mexican Omelette and the Cinnamon Pumpkin Pancakes!!! Really good food that is made fresh, just like your grandma used to make...only better. Cant wait to go back!

Food was tasty, pleasantly hot, and FAST. Like faster than McDonalds fast. Staff was friendly. Didnt like the row of extra chairs near the bathroom. If I were in a wheel chair, it would have blocked access. Hope they correct the ADA violation.

One of my favorite Valparaiso restaurants. Food is really good. Service is friendly and efficient. Bakery items are terrific! I asked eyes try to eat here when visiting. Today has veggie skillet with homemade whole wheat toast. Delicious.

Food was really good. I had a Reuben w/ fries. The corned beef was much better than I expected and the fries were seasoned waffle fries (think Rally fries but waffle). The price was reasonable as well. Overall for a diner, a good experience.

Low turnover staff rate so food is always consistent. Most of the servers are real nice. Food is good but to me is very greasy. Nice bake shop. Owned by mother in law of man who owns Tates Place in Portage. (I think TP is better)

Such a cute diner. Their breakfast food with homemade bread is delicious. I love their bakery case and fiber muffins. You cant go wrong there. If you have a sweet tooth, they gave cinnamon rolls the size of your head.

Really nice breakfast and bakery in Valpo. Great pastries and breakfast fare. Nothing unique, just a classic big breakfast menu. Everything Ive tried has been great! Super friendly staff as well. Recommended!

The cinnamon roll was huge and worth the price! The eggs were alright. The French Toast was decently pleasing along with the sausage patties. However, wasnt too pleased with the hash-browns.

Incredibly busy place but it is worth the shirt wait as they are very efficient in feeding you! Cinnamon rolls are fantastic just like the rest of their freshly-baked-in-house-goods!

Suzies is an amazing cafe. The food and service is wonderful. I like the fact that I can get breakfast any time. They also have the best tomato soup and homemade bread grilled cheese.
