I don’t write reviews. However, I have started taking our cars to Maxwell Automotive in Iowa City and felt compelled to share my experiences. Knowing nothing about how to repair a car, I have long been a suspicious person when it comes to mechanics. BUT, the people at Maxwell Automotive have changed my attitude. We have a Toyota Highlander which the Toyota dealer’s service department said was in need of a new unit for the heating/cooling controls in the dash. The cost was going to be over $1000 for parts and labor. I took the car to Maxwell Automotive prepared to pay over $1000. Maxwell Automotive found the problem to be a broken wire. They fixed the wire and my bill was several $100s less than I expected. They give this type of service every day. The people at Maxwell are extremely good at explaining all of my options for repairs and giving suggestions as to the best way to proceed. Since I don’t usually write reviews, I am giving Maxwell Automotive my highest and only recommendation. They will treat you right!

My husband and I normally do all of our vehicle maintenance ourselves, but I ended up going to Maxwell Automotive once because we just didnt have the time to tear into my car and it was having some issues. Im the daughter of two army mechanics, so while I dont speak Car and Driver, I do know enough about car mechanics to know when someone is trying to screw me over, and unfortunately as a female in my 20s, this normally happens whenever I go into any automotive store/shop. It was a relief to work with someone who didnt try to force a bunch of unnecessary parts/repairs on me because they thought I wouldnt know any better. I also very much so appreciated that they not only took care of the issues I went in for but also gave me a 25K, 50K, and 100K mile action plan for things to keep an eye on with my car. Everything they told me lined up with what Id already planned out for future maintenance. Ill definitely go back to Maxwell if my family is ever unable to do the work ourselves again.

Over the past year, Ive gotten to know the guys at Maxwell automotive. Every time I have taken my Audi A4 here for any work, it has been done quickly, completely, and with the highest level of quality. Their prices arent necessarily cheaper than the rest, but they are around the standard pricing for private shops in the Iowa City area. I am a home mechanic that knows cars fairly well, and am naturally critical of most car shops. However, I highly recommend Chris Maxwell and his team of mechanics. Chris and his team have consistently won me over with their knowledge of Audis, their clear and fast communication with me, and their flexibility with me as a fairly picky owner.

This is a great shop! My daughters VW beetle needed some repairs, after she moved from Texas to Davenport. I did some searching for a shop in the area, made some calls to talk to different shops, asking some Questions about the repair she needed. ( I own a German car shop in Texas, so i know what i have to ask, and the answers i want to hear). I talked to Chris and did feel very comfortable with the answers i got. Chris is straight forward and knows his stuff, and they do great work. It is well worth it for my daughter to drive 60 miles to have Chris and the crew take care of her car. Keep up the good work Guys!

Here’s why I’ll go back… Incredibly friendly and professional Free inspection with an itemized list of fixes based on safety and priority AND they aren’t pushy Up front pricing on labor and parts Fair on how they charge for labor When practical, they’ll recommend inexpensive used parts These guys go above and beyond to take care of the car and the customer!

Ive been taking my VW to these guys for a few years now, and love the work they do. Chris has done quite a bit of work on my car by this point, and I always walk away with the sense that he and his team care as much about my car running well as I do. Theyre very knowledgeable and have always been up front with me. Chris explains any problems very clearly, and lets me know if there are any problems I should be looking out for down the road so we can catch them early.
