I bring my 9 yr old daughter here to climb occasionally. My 12 yr old son loves the Ninja training area. Its great watching them have fun while getting the exercise that so many kids lack these days. The prices are affordable. I especially like that we can stay for the whole day from open to close for one price. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They really make us feel welcome every time we visit. Recently, a young man was setting routes on the wall and noticed my daughter having difficulty catching a hold. She is small for her age. He raised one hold just enough to give her the 3 inches she needed to complete the route. Amazing service! My only complaint is the material the holds are made of. They are plastic with a very rough, sand-paper texture. When my daughter climbs here her hands begin to hurt badly after a couple hours. She has tough, callused hands but these holds really pull on her skin and have ripped off several calluses and caused "flappers". I tape up her hands the best as I can but she still suffers from burning pain that lasts for a couple days afterwards. She has to stop climbing because of the pain in her hands, not because she is tired. She doesnt have this problem with her normal climbing gym so I believe this due to the types of holds they use. Otherwise, Apex Climbing gym is a great place to visit and have fun while your getting rhe exercise you and your kids need. They certainly earn their 5-STAR rating from me.

Over the years, I have had 20 birthday parties for my kids at places all over KC, and my daughter Seville’s 9th birthday party at Apex was by far one of the best!! Phil, his wife, and their daughter Jade were an absolute joy to work with and made sure Seville and her friends had a wonderful time. The facility is fresh, clean and super fun! The kids loved being able to do both the climbing walls and the ninja warrior course. The party room is large, has plenty of space to eat and open presents (plus a fridge and sink), and we loved the graffiti walls all over the facility (super fun for pics!!) Jade was our party host, and we cannot say enough good things about her! She was so helpful and good with the kids, and made sure everyone was safe and had a great time. It is neat to see a family working together to run a successful business! My husband and I couldn’t stop talking about how great the party was, and I keep recommending them to all of my friends. Thank you APEX for making Seville’s 9th birthday such a memorable evening!! We can’t wait to come back!! P.S. This is my first online review ever. That is how much I loved this place!

The staff here were friendly and welcoming, but the whole experience was pretty underwhelming for a gym that opened only a couple months ago. The flooring was obviously a cheap install, with very little fall absorption and some large dead areas. The route setting had lots of good ideas and some cool holds, but ultimately the routes lacked enough foot options, forced you to grab uncomfortable holds, had little in the way of technical movement, and were unclearly labeled. While the ninja warrior area looked pretty well done, I found the climbing to be sub par for an experienced climber. Definitely wouldnt leave a membership at ibex to come to this place, though hopefully as they grow into the space, add some new holds, and gain setting experience, some of these concerns will dissappear.

Apex is a rad little bouldering gym I have enjoyed frequenting this summer. Id say a strong point is their route-setting. They change up their problems very frequently, and they cater to a wide variety of climbing styles. There are many different route-setters, some better and some worse. (Chan is the head setter, his problems are consistently excellent) Id say the route ratings are a little cushioned overall, but I am no expert. The reason I took off a star is the occasional crowdedness. There have been days when the gym is extremely crowded, then some days you have the gym to yourself. Its quite unpredictable. However, its never been prohibitively difficult to hop on a problem. The people that climb here are all really friendly; Ive met some really unique climbers.

Overall a nice gym. Ninja warrior setup is a nice plus. The route setters need to allow some more variance between difficulty levels though. The difference between a V0 and V1 is far to great. I feel a new climber should be able to send a V0 route within a few attempts. As of today this isnt the case with the routes available. The jump from V0 to V1 is a huge jump. Many gyms would consider the V1s and V2s that were available to be closer to V4 ratings. In summation, great place to climb but I wouldnt send a newer climber there. If you normally climb >V5 than youll have a good time.

From an experienced climber who grew up climbing in Colorado, this place has some of the least satisfying problems I have ever climbed. There is very little flow (if any) to the problems. The ratings are poorly set. The difference between a V2 and V5 is very little if any. I would not recommend this gym to any experienced climber. They might want to invest in hiring some experienced setters. The next time I visit I would have a hard time convincing myself to invest in a membership if the problems dont improve.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time at Apex. Were on our way to Los Angeles and stayed just a block away at the Comfort Inn in Overland Park. We were walking to dinner and happened upon the gym. The amazing owners gave us a great discount because we came in a few hours before closing and we spent them bouldering and trying out the ninja warrior obstacles. Would absolutely recommend for someone traveling through or anyone else for that matter. Fun top out problems and great experience in the ninja room,

Great facilities, great climbing problems. Friendly climbing community. Talking with the on-staff chiropractor (Nate) helped me immensely! I never would have guessed this service would be useful, but he is very knowledgeable and helpful! Thanks to the whole staff and team at Apex! I love my experiences here! Cant wait to try the yoga sessions, as well.

Bouldering gym and ninja warrior style training. Its not huge but it has several levels. Route setting is better than average and theres a good variety of problems. I enjoyed this facility but be aware that it can get crowded - its just not that big. Staff were helpful and friendly. Definitely worth a visit if youre in the area.
