Amazing! Josh knows what he is doing!! We had previously dined at HH for dinner on multiple occasions, so when it came to deciding on a place to cater our wedding, we knew HH was the best! We wanted to pick something everyone would eat and enjoy, something different from your dry chicken and mediocre salmon with a vegetarian pasta that is bland. Weve all been to that wedding. We ended up going with crab dip, salad and fresh fruit for the cocktail time. Then chose brisket, pulled chicken, mac and cheese and baked beans for dinner. Everyone loved it! They were very accommodating for our guests with gluten and dairy allergies. They provided us with wait staff and bartenders, all were wonderful to work with on our special day. Josh is incredible! He helped us every step of the way. We originally had our wedding venue booked somewhere else and when they got in trouble for not having permits, Josh temporarily reserved our date at Cortland Mansion. We didnt have to have it there, but it was so thoughtful he had already thought ahead for us! We ended up loving the venue and booked with them! Josh did our walkthrough of the venue, met with us multiple times to go over the details of everything, from the setup to the timeline. It was worth hiring HH just to have Joshs assistance. They have a very cute setup that adds to any rustic wedding. I couldnt suggest them enough. If youre looking for a place for dinner, with good beer and maybe live music, go to HH. If youre looking for a BBQ caterer who will help you every step of the way and be there on the day of, its HH! A lot of other BBQ places only offered to go catering. Hempen Hill went above & beyond!

Service SUCKED!!! Food was Amazing!!! Female Waitress asks us first timers if we have any questions. Every diner has questions first timer or repeat customer. That is in and of itself a dumb question to ask and then walk away. While we ordered the Rack and a 1/2 which is a whole rack and another half stacked on top of each other on a plate, salad plate was never cleared off our table. Asked for the Baby Back Ribs to-go and we got a paper bag to dump our own food in, which was the huge slabs of ribs. Waitress could have taken it and bagged it herself in the back, I guess its all about self-service these days and then expecting a big tip $$$ ? We asked for another box, brought to our table, and again with no space, had to get up and use my chair as additional space, since Waitress still didnt bother to help make room for our table. Thank You so much for the attentive service. Oh half the mid-section was empty before 9pm on a Saturday with the band prepping themselves, so it wasnt super busy. Look, if you want to earn your tips (wage) do a little work, as a former Restaurateur I used to train my servers to take care of the little finer details that got them 30%-40% tips per table. Just taking someones order and expecting a tip (wage), in the real world is like showing up to work for 8 hours then going home without having put out any effort. I usually dont tip under 30%, this is the rare occasion. Earn your pay, not expect it. Young kids these days have no idea, they think they are entitled in this world. By God, Good Luck.

We heard good reviews about Hempen Hill BBQ and we decided to find out ourselves. We had the Yard Bird platter, Texas Brisket Platter and a hamburger. 1. Yard BIrd- The bird was smoked nicely and had a good flavor. I ordered the dark meat w/ fries and beans. After taking the chicken off the bones there was 3 mouthfuls of meat, The plate was dominated with Fries. The fries are good but I paid for chicken and this plate is way over priced wont buy again. 2. Texas Brisket- Really good flavor and tender. The portion was small there were 5 slices of thinly cut meat drowned in sauce. Once again the plate was dominated by fries. May try again but doubtful $15 for 3 oz of meat. Over Priced. 3. Hamburger- Nothing special but voted #1 in Hagerstown (Not sure why?) burger was a good size and was OK. 4. Onion Rings- Fantastic! Hand Breaded with a beer batter and fried golden brown and crispy. 5. Mac & Chez- Nothing Special in fact it was old and crusty. 6. BBQ Beans- Good Flavor! 7. Fries- Hand cut. Cooked fresh and crispy they are proud of them because you get about 10-12 oz on a plate. 8. BBQ Sauce- Tried the spicy on the great flavor! 9.. Service- We went on a Saturday night. Our server was polite and attentive best part of the experience. Over all we will try Hempen Hill again. The food is well prepared with a good taste but over priced for the portion served. $60 + tip for a dinner for 3 then went home to have a snack because we were still hungry. Brent W

I have drank and ate at Hempin Hill 4 times. Had great service when I came with a regular. This time on 10/11/2012 around 6pm I decided to bring my parents. They are elderly and just wanted to try one of the IPA beers. The bar was packed so we could not find 3 empty seats next to each other. We asked the hostess if we could sit at one of the empty tables around the bar, she replied they were reserved. We next asked if we could sit at one of the many empty tables in the lounge area. She replied that we have to order food in order to sit at one of those tables. There are atleast 10+ empty tables and we were told we could not sit at them. We asked if there was anywhere we could sit? The answer NO. We had to leave and told we could not be served unless we ordered food. We came home and I called Hempen Hill. Told my story and the phone hanged up. I would like to write good things about Hempen Hill but cannot. It was a horrible experience. Hempin Hill is a good place not a great place. Would not recommend. My family and I will never give them business again. I do not blame the hostess, she was trained by Hempin Hill to turn down business.

Love this place! Great food, great people! Theyre always working hard to provide you with a good foodie experience. Plus, theyre always want to know how you enjoyed your meal. I love going here to enjoy all the different microbrews that they have on tap. Hempen Hill is definitely a beer lovers and food lovers paradise! ... and on the weekends they always have live music to enjoy. Hidden in a small strip mall, youd never know that this award winning BBQ joint was even here! Ive sat at the bar before sipping a beer and talked with many a person who has drive from hours away to get here and try the fantastic food that theyve heard so much about. The new chef knows his stuff, too! Although, us regulars miss the previous chef and all of his fantastic creations. Some of which are being brought back due to everyone missing them so much! The owners of Hempen Hill listen to their customers and want you to enjoy being there and want you to want to come back! If youve never been to Hempen Hill... you need to go! Hope to see you there soon!
