Ive know the owner of Star Dance School, Peter Gelzhinsky for a number of years now. I was introduced to ballroom dancing in college and immediately knew it was for me. I had seen Peter dancing at some of the college competitions and his dancing really inspired me to get better and take dancing more seriously. When I was home for the summer, I decided to go to Star Dance School and sign up for some lessons. With Peter and his partners (Anya) coaching, I was soon competing at the Amateur Rising Star level at many competitions, such as Yankee Classic and Nationals. Along the way, I watched his small Newton studio grow and grow. The people I met there were all very friendly and the dance socials were always a lot of fun. He really knows how to cater to both the recreation/social dancer as well as the serious competitive dancer. He also has two outstanding hip hop teachers, one of whom was featured on "So You Think You Can Dance." Although Ive never ventured into the hip-hop genre, I watched a few classes and it looked like a lot of fun. A few months ago, I was excited to see that his studio was expanding. The new space looks great and there is so much of it! (about 3000 sq. ft) I highly recommend Star Dance School for anyone looking to pursue dancing, either socially or at a serious competitive level. If I didnt have to move across the country to Florida for work, I would still be taking lessons there today.
