If you are cremating your loved one, DO NOT USE JAMES H. COLE FUNERAL HOME. If you need full service, embalming, casket, service, limos, etc. this is probably your place. My family has used Coles for at least 6 family members’ funerals with no issues. I used them to cremate my Father in 2014. Mr. Green at the Northwest Chapel, was beyond nonchalant as he went through the paperwork formalities with my Mother and I. We were told that we would be contacted once a doctor had signed the death certificate, which is required before cremation can occur. Several days passed and no one from the funeral home called. My Mother was very distraught waiting for that call. I called approximately 3 days after we had made the arrangements and paid, in-full, for the cremation, only to be told by Mr. Green that the doctor still had not signed off on the death certificate and that we would basically just have to wait. I called back and received the same answer. That same day, I called the main office on the boulevard and spoke with Ms. Karla Cole. Ms. Cole immediately contacted “someone” and got my father’s death certificate right away. God only knows how long we would have been waiting if I had not initiated some action. As the “daughter” of the deceased and a paying client, I should not have had to take on this burden. My mother passed in late June of 2016. After 6 successful funerals and 1 lousy cremation process, I made the mistake of giving Cole’s another chance. As a previous reviewer experienced, I too had an incredibly long wait for my mother’s body to be picked up from the nursing home. I initially called the funeral home at approximately 1:40 a.m.. After numerous calls to the funeral home inquiring about the pick-up, my mother was not picked up until 5:30 a.m. I had to talk the driver in to the location, via cell phone, (he was lost) and I had to meet him at the driveway entrance in my car and guide him to the door. Again, more burden on the grieving family member. Once the paperwork had been processed and the services paid for, again, no one called to give me the date / time of the cremation. After several unreturned calls from the funeral home I was transferred to MR. GREEN!!! and AGAIN told that the death certificate had not been signed and that it was out of their control. Miraculously, during the same telephone conversation, after I went on a tirade about being treated poorly because we were not having a $10,000 dollar plus funeral, only a cremation, Mr. Green was able to give me an exact date and time for the cremation. DO NOT subject yourself and your family members to poor, POOR, customer service at a time of terrible heartbreak and loss. Ask around and find a funeral home with a better reputation.

James H. Cole Funeral Home made my dads death experience much worse than it should have been. First, my dad was pronounced dead at 10:17pm and the funeral home didnt pick him up til 12:45pm. Secondly, the day of the funeral we were rushed to get out of the chapel because of another funeral was taken place. Not to mention, our funeral service didnt start on time because there was another funeral service before ours. It was like an assembly line, money money, get them in and get them out. No respect or curosity for my family at this devastating time. Thirdly, my dad passed away on 12.21 and we did not get the death certificate until 01.09, I called on a daily basis inquiring about cremation viewing and death cerificate and was told someone would call me back. This went on for approximately two week after the funeral services and my dad had not been cremation, yet. Finally, to top this off, when my dad was finally cremated, my brother went to pick up Arn and was given a box with my dads remain....how horrible! This is not what we pay life insurance for horrible service. They have no compassion for the living or dead. I would not let them handle services for my dog. Signed, still GRIEVING! Thanks James Cole Funeral Home, for making this the worst experience, I ever had to deal with.

I have been blessed to not have a lot of deaths in my family to deal with... however, I am part of a national church based organization and we are asked to support our fallen members and the members who have lost loved ones. In reading the reviews, I was actually *happy* to see someone report a negative review. I am certain that not every one has a good experience in dealing with death. But I have, and those I know who have, dealt with James H. Cole Home for Funerals for more than 30 years (in my experience) have been pleased. When I lost my mother in July 2012, I was not sure what to do, but those around me who cared for me told me Call Cole! and it was the start of making a horrible experience a pleasant memory. I still dont have my mother, but I do have pleasant memories of a very dignified service, where all of our needs were met, where the staff of Cole was very very professional, and now, three years after, I still feel as if I can call and ask for a need concerning my loss and they never let on that Im not the only person in the world. Thank you to Jackson, Karla Cole-Green, and even to the Late James H. Cole for establishing a standard by which others can and should be measured. - Apryl Voner, Detroit

My mother and I met with Karla Cole to make arrangements for her pre-paid funeral. When my mother died, Cole Funeral home was contacted and everything went as planned, no problems. Mrs. Cole and her staff were all very professional and understanding. The mailing of the death certificates to the insurance companies was very helpful; an additional service that I was not aware of that made things much easier and stress reducing for me. Karla Cole and Brice Cole Green have earned my appreciation and respect for the professional and caring way they handled the funeral arrangements for my mother. Karla Cole is an expert in her field. A 5 star funeral home for those seeking help when a loved one dies.

When my father died unexpectedly, it was a very trying time on me and my wife. He didnt have insurance, nor did I have the money. Also, the courts wanted testing done on him before he was to be cremated. The staff there was kind and understanding; especially Ms. Cole. Although it took months to finalize, Ms. Cole was very patient. Ms. Cole helped me get all the testing done for the courts, contacted me often with valuable info, and even worked with me with the pricing. In a time of need, Ms. Cole came through and me and my wife just wanted to thank her soo much. GOD bless you! Keno

My family has been coming to James Cole for years, The quality of their work started with the father and now is being fulfilled with daughter Karla. Besides the outstanding work they do, their is compassion and professionalism. The chapel is beautiful and I have entrusted my mother and family members to them. I believe in the ability of their staff. I rate them very highly.

This was my second time using James H Cole for a funeral and they did an excellent job both times. My father passed away 13 years ago and we had the service there and it was great. My mother recently passed away and we had her memorial there and it was once again Wonderful! I highly recommend them.
