We contracted with Jake Schwartz, a CertaPro Painter franchise owner in St. Paul to compete a paint job for our 2 studios. While we are generally ok with the job completed in studio B, the completed job in studio A is not to our expectations as it is incomplete, has uneven coverage, and does not fully cover the previous wall color. Additionally, the painting crew left a considerable mess in the studios as the floor and several items were full of black paint overspray. The day after job completion, our supervisor called to express disappointment with the completed job. Arrangements were made at that time for Jake to come onsite for a job inspection, but he called instead. Very unfortunate as our supervisor had changed his schedule to meet Jakes requested time frame for the onsite meeting. Our supervisor told him the two issues we had with the job were an underwhelming paint job and a mess left afterword by the crew. He elaborated that the job was generally ok in one studio but was underwhelming, not good, with insufficient coverage in the other studio. The take away from the conversation was CertaPro was interested in their own needs. Our supervisor was told they had put on 42 gallons of paint, probably applied more than 2 coats on the walls, and thats all they were going to do, paint-wise. Regarding the coats applied, Jake stated he knew for a fact that two coats were applied and that if we wanted more, wed have to pay for a third coat, per the contract. Perhaps the most upsetting to our company is we were told that we had paid not for a good paint job, but to have two coats of paint put on the walls. Not all was negative, Jake said that the crew leaving a mess was unfortunate and we could talk about having them come back to clean up. Good thought, but were not as much interested in a crew to clean to our satisfaction, as a crew to paint to our satisfaction. If fulfilling the actual letter of a contract, one that states two coats, and not satisfying a customer is most important to you, then we definitely hired the wrong company. If customer satisfaction is what CertaPro is committed to, then a paint job with us is awaiting completion. Your contract also states specifically that you "....are a referral based business. During our relationship, we expect to earn your trust and endorsement by providing you with a 5 out of 5 experience." A 5 out of 5 experience was not provided either by the paint job results or by the post job discussion with the local franchisee. An initial email from the franchisee states, among other things "....That we will leave your property in excellent condition....our work is guaranteed. I stand behind it and so does North America’s largest and most referred painting company." Our property was not left in excellent condition, either by the quality of the paint work or by the quality of your cleanliness. Im not quite sure what work is guranteed or what youre standing behind, most certainly it cant be the quality of your work. We understand independent companies needing to make a profit, but companies that are profitable are ones that put the needs of the customer ahead of the profit needs of the company.

I wish I could give a negative rating. Requested two bids: one for wall, & ceiling (drywall) repair and a patch (for the popcorn ceiling) ... the other for painting the entire ceiling. Both jobs totaled about $830 per the CertaPro bid. We found a better source for the repair and patch so we went with that. When I informed CertaPro I was told the painting bid would go up due to the change and the new bid was $733 (for the painting alone) a $97 difference, which set off alarm bells in my head. Jake explained that if they did both jobs they would realize efficiencies as they could paint other areas while they were waiting for the ceiling patch to dry. Of course, this is nonsense; without the repair & patch job they have to wait for nothing ... which is even more efficient. Meantime Jen told me the cost difference was due to "prep" and such. Hmmm. Communication with them is horrible, you can only call the office and that number is rarely answered. If they do return your call and youre unavailable to take it .... you have to call the office and leave a message (because they dont answer the office phone ... as I mentioned before). eMail response is slow to non-existent. The bigger problem is CertaPro gives its franchisees protected territories which means if your CertaPro people are somewhat less than acceptable ... you cant move your business to another CertaPro franchise. We heard the folks in Elk River were great, but after contacting them, I think they may be unwilling to cross territorial boundaries. Too bad. CertaPro has a problem. Well be doing business with someone else. I strongly suggest you steer clear of this group.

They refused to work with me to come when I could be home so I had to leave the crew and go to work for a meeting. The guys completd my entire house ceiling in less than 4 hours amd left before I got back. Now I am still waiting to get our issues resolved. Like the gentleman who posted 2 months ago, right after I had Jen here for a quote, I needed patching and paint for an insurance-paid repair. Only half the patching was done and the "completed" area wasnt even sanded down. Areas of paint were completely missed in all rooms. Ceiling was either not edged to the wall or it was slopped over the wall. They left paint drips all over furniture and counters, and when they came out for rework they showed up with only 40 minutes left in the two hour "appointment" that they scheduled. I was told that it was too dark when they came the first time so that poor job was the best they could do and that they cant edge the ceiling because then would have to paint the top inch of the wall, too. Apparently using lighting and painters tape is confusing for them. I was also told they dont do the edge of the cove moulding because that is considered the wall and not the ceiling even though they painted (poorly) most of the moulding face. They missed all the corners of the cove moulding and even a one-foot section of it. If they make this right with a different crew then I will change my review. Right now their lack of completion is holding up resolving payment on my insurance claim. Edit 1 year later: within months all the "repaired"plaster spots were cracking and the paint is chipping off. One year later I am redoing the work.

Certapro painted our very large house this summer and they did a great job. We were transitioning to a darker color, and even though we consulted with a designer from Sherwin Williams for our color and trim selection, when the painting began, we decided that the secondary trim color was too dark and the crew graciously changed the trim to the lighter color. After the painting was complete, we did a complete walk through of the house. They were more than happy to touch up one or two areas that were identified. I would hire them again.

CertaPro painters recently painted every room in my home. They did a great job from helping me choose color, wall repair, and painting walls while preserving trim, which didnt need painting. I appreciated Jakes recommendations specific to my home, and I appreciated that Christine coordinated the job specifics, kept me informed about scheduling and what to expect. CertaPro took the worry out of having my home painted, were professional and complete.
