This gym is great is you have no intentions of actually working out. Come on people...really, free pizza and bagels with big screen televisions everywhere at a gym? I will admit the cardio equipment is decent, but it doesnt help if you are not eating healthy. On the other hand, dont even come to this gym (or any planet fitness) if you plan to lift weights. All of the free barbell benches, incline benches, etc have been replaced with machines. When asked why, the little girl at the desk said it was too much of a liability. So what probably happened was someone probably tried to bench a weight they had no business trying without a spot. Not only that, the dumbells top out at 75lbs...seriously. I mean if you dont want to lift weights, dont go to the gym or at least stay away from the free weights. Now onto the "judgment free zone", what a crock of crap! They want you to believe that you will not be judged as you ride the stationary bike eating a slice of free pizza? Come on! What it is is that they fear having people in the gym that actually look like they work out. For some, seeing this gets them all depressed and they grab another coke and slice of pizza. For the few, this is motivation to better themselves, eat healthier, improve their overall health...and maybe....just maybe, avoid obesity, diabetes, cardiac issues, etc. If planet fitness wants to generate more revenue and actually help people reach an attainable fitness level I suggest the following: 1. Get rid of the free junk food. If you must incorporate a food source, then why not make it a healthy alternative. Many people eat crap all day (esp. here in Mississippi...one of the fattest states mind you) so why not offer something they otherwise may have never tried until now...when they came to Planet fitness. 2. Instead of the "free personal trainer" that they say they offer, why not axe that waste of expenditure and hire a nutritionist who can help people construct a diet plan suitable to their lifestyle which is healthy and will aid in their fitness goals. 3. Bring the weights back! (Im talking barbells, squat racks (no...the Smith machine is not a squat rack), increased dumbbell weight, incline bench, decline bench, etc. If it is such an issue regarding those that get all emotional and feel intimidated when they see a grown man lift some heavy weight, then have a room for free weights. You could even have a sign (I mean everyone has a sign when they are scared of a lawsuit right) on the entrance stating the risks involved. Hey, heres an idea, sign a wavier in the initial paperwork when you sign up saying PF will not be liable....BOOM..done. 4. Increase the price to afford the above. Ok, most gyms around this town (notice I did say "gyms") run anywhere from $30-$40 a month. These gyms such as WolfPack, Southern Elite, etc are legit gyms where people go to work out. So by increasing the price to say $20 as a minimum would still undercut the competition while increasing cliental (through the increase use of the facility based on the changes). Win Win...right. 5. Lastly, get rid of that stupid lunk alarm. So when people lift heavy weight, they normally breath out as they are pushing the weight, if not they not only increase the intrathoraic pressure, they also run the risk of passing out. So when some exhale (not all) they grunt, or maybe breath hard. Yeah I can see if someone was being obnoxiously loud, but heck for the most part, EVERYONE is listening to their own music so there is only the issue for a relatively small segment of the PF population. Other than that, why have the stupid alarm? Its more of a distraction to the workout than the person how is grunting occasionally. So yes, get rid of that and the silly idea that you cant grunt in the gym. So, yes one star....and that is being overly generous as there was no option for negative numbers on the scale.

I was in the area for 3 months for work. I registered for a membership under the terms that I could cancel anytime, no fees, no questions asked. Upon my registered I informed them I would be leaving the state in a matter of months and they assured me again that there would be no problems with cancellation. 4 months after, I am billed from the business. I call and ask about the charge, as I had went in before leaving to cancel and it was supposed to have been done. They never cancelled my membership. I requested, again, for it to be done. They refused to do so over the phone. They said I had to come into the location (which I had already done) to revoke my membership. I told them it was impossible, as I now (again, as I previously informed them) lived in a different state over 300 miles away. The associate refused to allow me to email or fax a cancellation statement. She said it "had to be done over the phone". The only other option was to mail a letter via snail mail (again, refusing email or fax) stating I wanted to cancel and why. So, I sent the letter in. Another month, another charge. Another phone call, another refusal to cancel, another letter via snail mail. We are 6 months down the road now. 4 phone calls, 3 letters, and now they have charged me a membership renewal fee. All in all; horrible customer service. The gym as a whole was decent, no complaints aside from crowding and not enough equipment during those busy however. I will never join a Planet Fitness again because of this experience. I now see the company as criminals only out to steal money.

This place is perfect if youre not a super fit person, and just breaking into the fitness world, although there are a number of fit people who work out here. I havent exercised for about 13 years, and was ready to start again. I recently quit smoking and joined this place, because I wanted to get in shape. I like all the machines, Im not a weight lifting guru, so the machines work for me. There are a number of cardio and strength training machines available. I like to get there about 6 am to avoid traffic inside and outside of the gym. The fitness person there shows you how to use the machines if you need help. The staff is friendly and helpful. The members seem to be clean and courteous, wiping down machines after using them, etc. Their rules actually incorporate that judgement free motto, by not allowing very revealing clothing, big arm hole tank tops, etc...which is whatever to me. Annoying, but nothing that would keep me from joining. So Im happy to have joined here. I dont understand the bad reviews. Its a low cost gym. I feel I get more than what I pay for. Just be sure to ask questions before signing the membership, because youre committed for a year, or theres an early termination fee. Theyre fair, just dont be naive...thats to be said about signing any contact.

I have been trying to cancel my and my husbands membership since February 2014. I was told to either mail in a cancellation letter or stop by the gym. Due to my schedule I mailed in not one, two, or three, but four letters requesting cancellation. I have been charged every month, and I am still being charged. I WILL NEVER JOIN THIS GYM AGAIN! I am reporting them to BBB as well as mailing a certified letter to their headquarters. This is robbery and I am not at all happy with their lack of professionalism and customer service abilities.
