By far my best experience at a barber shop. Thats not an exaggeration, just the truth. I highly recommend Rutgers Barber Shop! The environment is very laid back with that old school barber shop vibe. Whether youre going there for the first time, or a regular, youre welcomed and treated to a quality cut regardless of the style. Ive been going there for a while and Ive always felt like its a place that I could just chill out at even if Im not getting a cut. The staff is friendly and engaging and are great with kids. My little brother has been going there since he was 8 and he refuses to have his hair cut by anyone else than the staff at Rutgers Barber Shop. As far as the price goes, youre paying for a quality cut. Ive been to world renowned salons and paid more than Id like to admit for a cut that I wasnt crazy about. Here, youre paying $25 for something fresh, clean, and always on point. And compared to other salons and barber shops in the area, its by far the best for the price.

I went to this barber shop to get a nice cut. I entered the place, the shop was dirty. I asked for a pretty short cut, the barber knew apparently just one cut, mc-hammer style, he wasnt paying attention was chatting with a fellow about dog training and stuff. After 20 min he shows me the result, and it was terrible! The right hand side of my hair was shorter than the left, really terrible. so i told the guy to correct this. And then he got really mad, telling me I was no person to tell him how to cut hair and then made some stupid comments at the verge of racism ... really terrible! And at the end he ended up cutting all my hair with a 3.5 hair cutter. And the guy expected me to pay and even to give him a tip?? Absolutely insane! It concluded by he telling me: people like you are not welcome anymore in my shop ... whatever it means (Im half black). So please boycott this stupid and go to other barbers in highland park who are much more sympathetic and competent.

Does nobody in this neighborhood know what a classic taper hairstyle is anymore? Isnt that the standard at any school? Or does the Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling hand out licenses to anybody now? If not, just Google it! Twice now, at two different barbers in Highland Park, I go in telling the barber Im growing my hair out and aiming for the classic taper hairstyle. I just need the sides and the back trimmed so my head doesnt look like a puffball. The first barber gave me a very short high fade (BACK TO SQUARE 1). So I went to Rutgers Barber Shop, thinking theyd be more detailed as the reviews say, considering they charge double what everyone else charges. WRONG. Again with a high fade! Definitely not going here again, definitely not worth the $25 when several barber shops within 5 blocks can do the same exact fades for half the price!

As a Rutgers student I needed a fresh cut but was not happy with the reviews other places in the area got. Decided to check Rutgers Barber Shop out and I was very impressed. These are real cool guys running the shop, who specialize in contemporary AND classic cuts. You will get a good cut if you know what you want. A wide variety of guys came in to get cuts, some received crisp fades and shape ups while others like myself received a skillfully cut high-and-tight. Would differently go again. Wouldve received 5 stars if this place didnt charge 25 a cut, which is a little steep in my opinion, but you will not walk out disappointed.

these guys are good, but for 25 dollars a haircut its not worth it!.. i dont understand why they raised their prices so high. i wont be going back to this barber shop due to their prices. 20 dollars for a childs haircut? are you serious? a childs haircut shouldnt be more then 12 dollars. how much hair does a child have that they need to charge 20 dollars for? its not like they shave them with a single blade or anything. i honestly would consider going back if they dropped their prices but as of now i wouldnt recommend anyone to go there when they could go somewhere else to get a better cut at a cheaper price!

Extremely over priced for extremely average haircut. I didnt get a tape, or a fade, or anything other than 5 minutes of buzzing and 5 minutes of scissor work, and was charged $25 for what is $15 at most barbers. I even walked out with uneven sideburns, and had to fix them up myself. As much as I cant stand going to a chain like Super Cuts while Im at school, its places like this (that overcharge) that keep me going back for a cheaper average cut.

Quality haircut for a quality price, use hot shave with razor finishes, Sharp and clean fades, seen people get long hair thinned out and trimmed, pompadour cuts on white or Indian clients and quality barbers are only the ones who cut here. Only people who might not have been satisfied couldnt explain their haircut lol. These guys give the best cuts in middlesex county.

I went to Steve when he was the owner of Rutgers. unfortunately, he passed away. I know he is happy that Daren has the place. Steve knew Daren and wanted him to get the shop. Daren will do a fantastic job. He has a great eye for design and is truly a master barber. He consults to NY State State, does demonstrations, and teaches classes.

Over priced and shady - Inexperienced staff, well can we call it a staff? The owner looks like he will steal your wallet when you ar not looking. Overcharging college kids and looking to steal is the feeling here. Go find someplace else to go... this place is NOT good.

There is something rewarding about sitting in a comfortable chair and receiving personal grooming service the way Rutger Barber Shop does! This place is a throwback to good old fashioned customer service, with style! Great job, Daren.

I have been to many cool places to get my haircut but Rutgers Barbershop definitely is one of the best. Amazing service, atmosphere, and environment. If youre going to get your hair cut in the area, you should get it cut here.

I think the barbers here arbitrarily decide a rate based on their mood. Yesterday the barber charged me $30 for an extremely average haircut. Never going back here.

Very friendly staff, skilled and flexible. Got a modern style haircut at a reasonable price. Hot lather and straight razor finish was awesome. Definitely recommend.

Prices are higher than the average barber shop and there only 2 chairs, so at time the wait can be lengthy. But you get what u pay for great cut, warm towel shave.
