I swtiched to LA from Planet Fitness because they had more amenities. I am happy with the switch but there is still a lot of room for improvement. When I first started going here they had these awful girls working the front desk, always with an attitude when they scanned you in, constantly on their phones and having friends lean up on the counter chatting with them. Just very childish behavior and not a very welcoming experience. They since have seemed to let some of these girls go as I have not seen them in a little while. However there really is only 1 blond women who works the desk who is actually welcoming and always tells you to have a good workout. Some of the members of this gym also do not seem to feel obligated to wipe down the machines after they have used them even though there is ample paper towels and stations available. This is unfortonite but it seems that the management has turned an eye to this when they should have additional housekeeping on shift during peak hours going around and cleaning the machines as they are dusty and covered in sweat drips most of the time (even in the mid afternoon during non peak hours). There were also a lot of rumors before i joined about theft in the locker rooms. I had not experienced this but today while I was at work I received an email about this.( I work in a retail store where the local law enforcement agencies constantly email us about persons of interest for credit fraud, identity theft, ect. ) And through my work email I had to find out this was occurring while the gym has failed to post anything about this at the location or inform any of their members. --This is more then just people breaking locks and stealing your stuff, there are 2 men who appear to have managed to get into the lockers with out breaking the locks. They steal your credit cards and valuables and then go to local retailers (in Roxbury, East Hanover, Millburn, Paramus, Little Falls, and Clifton) which begs to question if this is an inside job. Why would someone who attended this gym then go shopping in these areas. I had been attending this gym for about 6 months now going at least 3x a week, but I do not know if I would renew my membership in the future.

Came back from college for winter break(a month long). I was looking for a nearby gym to go to for that month and I found LA fitness. Called them on the phone for the price of a monthly membership the person told me they have a special offer for Christmas or something. The offer was that the initiation fee would be waived and it would only cost me 25 dollars a month. I specifically told him I only need the membership for one month only and he told me yeah that we could arrange that. I drove there (25 minute drive) met with the guy and he start writing out the prices for me. It turned out to be 100 dollars. I asked why, it turns out they do not waive the whole initiation fee and they only do 2 months memberships minimum at a rate of 35 dollars a month NOT 25 like he told me on the phone. I told him that he said I could do a one month membership on the phone and that the initiation fee would be waived. He started making excuses and then his colleague came up to me and said if you dont like the offer then this isnt the place for you. I told them I drove 25 minutes to get there for nothing and I still had to drive back. They told me theres nothing they can do about that. Worst employees ever. Do not recommend. I ended up going to the YMCA for 40 bucks for a month with no initiation fee.

My experience in this place is very discouraging, Im not an excellent swimmer but I love to go into the pool, well at the beginning when they first opened up, everything was nice and beautiful and the customer service too. Well, I started noticing this black mark building around the edge of the pool, basically where you support your hands to get out of the pool. guess what this is black mold build up. About a year ago a brought it up to some of the customer help people there and nothing happened, the build up kept getting worse, by the way is it still there, you can see it from a far as soon as you walk in... Anyway, I decided to take a further step and spoke to one of the managers, a Hispanic guy in his early 30s I believe, I need to be honest I do not recall his name, but he still works at the place. Well, the outcome of the conversation was, that the pool needed to emptied in order to clean it. Ok, about six, maybe more months have gone by and the BLACK BUILD UP AROUND THE EDGE OF THE POOL IS STILL THERE, something that I consider very un respectful for the 100s of people that joint this place.

Ive been going here for 3 years and the other day this one employee with a shaved head about 5 foot 6 wearing white collared shirt and glasses was not helping the other lone employee at the desk who was being surrounded by customers. I did not sign in because I was in a rush and he stopped me and said i have to sign in in a very nasty attitude and seemed like he did not want to be there at all but he was not even helping his own collogue at the desk who were taking care of a long line of customers but was so fast to stop me. I am currently looking at other gyms due to this situation. I never had a problem in my 3 years until this disrespectful employee who is incompetent at doing his job correctly with a customer service tone. I work in sales and know very well how treat a customer and this is not how you treat customers. Worst customer service ever. However the rest of the staff other than this one employee has treated me very well in the past and I have never had any problems prior.

Meh- I think that people who have a bad experience are overwhelmingly more likely to post a review, so I dont put much stock in the percentage of negative reviews on here. I dont need trainers and dont take classes so no issues there. For what I use this gym for, its fine. The machines are all new and in working order, there are plenty of free weights, the cardio machines are also new and in good working order, and the locker rooms are sufficiently clean. I use the pool as well and the pool is always clean. I dont need the counter people to do somersaults when I come in and I could care less if they wish me a "happy workout" or not. Just scan my card and let me do my thing. I go to the gym often enough to where the $30 a month is well worth the price, and its open early and late enough to where I can fit my workouts into my schedule. If you have a concrete workout plan, know what youre doing, and dont need classes or trainers, Id recommend this gym to anyone.

I just joined this gym and already Ive had bad experiences. I signed up online and scheduled an assessment with a personal trainer and received an email confirmation. I show up to my appointment and they did not have me scheduled and I understand this isnt necessarily the facilitys fault but it was very disappointing. I ended up having to reschedule. The next day someone from LA Fitness calls me three times in a row and I was at work unable to answer, youd think they would leave a voicemail. I called back and I was transferred to another line that eventually I was hung up on. Im also enrolled in the kids klub. The woman who worked there is inattentive to the children. There was a toddler walking around with a pencil in her mouth. Youd think she would be a little concerned but no she was on her phone. Thank god my son is 5yrs old and wouldnt do things like that. And all of this happened on the first day I joined.
