As a paranoid New Yorker and new mother, I researched in great detail every single Hicksville area daycare for my baby daughter. I found the perfect place in Building Blocks. I could compare in great detail as why its the best in the area, but for the purposes of this simple review, trust me, Building Blocks is the best. My now three year-old was also joined by her now soon-to-be two year-old sister at Building Blocks and I would not trust anyone else to take care of the most important people in my life. The director, Margarita Torres, is energetic, enthusiastic and well-loved by the children. For example, when I dropped my daughter off for her first day, I was warmed by witnessing other children being dropped off, running into the arms of Margarita for a morning hug. If my daughters could type, they would tell you how much they love going there every day. When I drop them off in the morning, they are rarely grumpy, instead they run towards the door. Unlike other daycares, Building Blocks has thoughtful, planned learning activities throughout the day which range from circle time with music, songs and dance, reading a book of the day, learning the letter of the week through craft projects, books or song. Language skills and reading are encouraged as is of course, free play. My three year-old can count numbers in five languages! All of your childs meals and snacks are included, and the place is spotless, with toys and surfaces sanitized, handwashing before and after all meals. The additional well-trained professional staff are playful, upbeat, intelligent and focused on you childs interests. Your children are never left alone, ignored or unattended as I found in other daycares. This daycare definitely follows an educational lesson plan, rather than a "babysitting plan" and your children even get progress reports. You also receive a weekly email of all of your childs activities and what they ate. My daughters have also learned a real sense of community here. When a child has a birthday, all the children take turns in helping to bake a cake, and everyone gets a piece to take home in a bag they decorated themselves. My daughters are never prouder than they are of their simple artwork! There is an amazing back yard as well, and in the nicer weather, children play outside, have lunch and enjoy activities in the fresh air. There is also an amazing not-to-miss holiday party every December with a visit from Santa who brings a gift to each child. It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend Building Blocks Daycare!

Building Blocks was a great place for my daughter. I needed daycare and fast for her after getting offered a job on the spot. Margarita was warm and welcoming at my first visit and able to accept my daughter within days. No long waiting period to start care! From just before her first birthday until she was 4 1/2 and leaving for Pre-School, my daughter loved this place -- and so did we! Margarita and her staff are warm and welcoming, always willing to answer your questions and address any concerns you might have. The staff really become like family. After a two week vacation over my daughters 2nd birthday, I thought she might have a hard time readjusting to daycare, but she ran right inside and didnt look back! Building Blocks was a second home for her. Daily reports are provided for children under one, and weekly for 1+. You get information on what theyre learning, meals and the projects that were completed that week. My daughter learned to count to 10 in 7 languages during her time at Building Blocks. Sign language is also part of the learning, and each child learns to sign their name. I loved that for every kids birthday they did an interactive baking activity. The kids participated in making cupcakes, brownies or quick breads, had a little party and brought home the goodies they made. All the children are included in activities, so the littlest ones get great exposure to older children who can model behavior and speech, and the older kids get reinforcement to include everyone at different ability levels. There is outdoor play, the occasional trip out (which Margarita always asks for parental permission the day of), and regular pictures of your childs time with friends. The Christmas party is always fun, with a visit from Santa and a gift for each child. Its held in the evening before Christmas break to allow for parents to attend. I also really liked the attention to the safety of the children. There are no site visits for new families until after hours, and then by appointment only. Margarita insists on meeting anyone who might be picking up your child in your place, and advanced notice, when possible, so that she knows shes handing the right child to the right adult. I really cant say enough good things about Building Blocks. If you are looking for a loving, family-like atmosphere, this is the place for you. You get the intimacy of an in-home babysitter in a daycare setting.

Both of my children have been to this school for the last 7 years. My daughter started at 10 months and my son 8 weeks. The owner isnt just an owner, she is a "second mother" to both my children. My kids built friendships, learned to socialize, learned to count in 4 languages, sign language, learned colors, shapes and letters before the age if three. Never once did they cry that I was leaving them, I believe the love and care they received made them feel like this was their other " fun house" to play. My daughter is now 8 and still asks to visit. Plus she loves Ritas food ( which is always home made and not frozen food zapped in a microwave) I feel very lucky to have found building blocks. I did not want to send my babies to a " factory" I wanted them to feel loved while I went to work. Building blocks is ALWAYS clean, up to code, the assistants always friendly and interact with the children. What I always loved was the one on one attention my son received when he first started and as new babies come in through the years they always had the same attention. My son turned 4 this summer and was the happiest but sad to start his next chapter in pre-k but leave his " baby school". At 8 and 4 years old, they still get excited when I pull into their block. As a single mom, making all decisions on my own, I am so happy I made this choice in daycare.

My three-year-old daughter started with building blocks at 6 months old. I could not have been happier with the choice I had made. Margarita is one of the most caring genuine loving woman I have ever met and always treated my daughter as if she was her own. My daughter knows her ABCs, how to count to 20, colors, shapes, speaks in complete sentences, sign language, childrens rhymes and songs and much much more. They do daily learning projects and have an amazing play area outside. My daughter has always been fed healthy breakfast lunch dinner and snacks. There is a lot of love that goes on at this daycare hugs kisses and the other teachers are very warm and caring its as if theyre part of your family. I would highly highly recommend this daycare. If you want your child to learn and be loved this is the place for them !!

I love Building Blocks daycare!! My daughter has been attending this daycare since she was 4 months old, shes now 4 yrs old. The daycare is very family orientated, educational, responsible and caring. The place is very clean and the staff is great!! They are very focused in the educational aspect. They read, do arts & crafts and much more. My daughter has learned so much, she counts the numbers in 5 different languages, knows the alphabet in sign language and so much more. She loves going there and I know she is well prepared for when she starts to attend Kindergarten next year. I strongly recommend this daycare to anyone.
