Pros: Customer service manager (Jesus) and shop owners are very nice and informative. They did require authorization before starting work. Cons: Im starting to think that their "niceness" comes at a great price. The markup on their parts is ridiculously high. When I took my car to fix a problem with misfiring and a melted plug that screwed up a cylinder head, I knew I was gonna get it in terms of labor and parts, but what I didnt know was how much markup theyd get me on. I ended up spending $4K for the job initially: Replaced spark plugs, ignition coils, tune-up (air filter, water pump, etc), rebuilt cylinder head, timing chain tensioner (more about this one later) all OEM parts. So then finally I get my car back and boom, check engine light comes on. I run it back to them and their reader said "P1346" which means "VVT Sensor Circuit fault", which then points to either the Cam sensor or timing area (timing chain, etc, remember I mentioned TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER?). Ok so they replaced the easiest part which was the cam sensor $179 (and of course they didnt charge me labor because of their guarantee on the previous job). They reset the code, I took it for a drive and bam, check engine light again. I brought it back and same code "P1346". Great. So it wasnt the cam sensor, and I told Jesus "youre not gonna charge me that right because it didnt need to be replaced" he said "sure no problem Ill take care of you". He did, initially. When I brought it back and they reopened the engine further to discover that the timing chain itself was damaged, they charged me for parts only (of course since I already paid for labor in my first invoice) and that cost me $581 (including the refund for the cam sensor -$179). Ouch. Now Ive paid what I wouldnt be able to sell my car for (2002 Toyota Camry SE 4 cyl). So I took a closer look at the last invoice and notice the pricing on what they charged: Timing chain $289 Slipper (one part of the chain guide) $183.65 Damper (the other part of the guide) $242.89 Im not an expert or mechanic but Im not an idiot. I called Toyota parts department and find out these parts actually cost me: Timing chain: $220 Slipper: $37 Damper: $76 OK, I know mechanics charge a markup but not this much, gimme a break. So I approached this to them and they agreed to charge me a new price: chain: $249 slipper: $46.33 damper: $95.16 Much more reasonable dont you think? Right. But what I overlooked was that the refund for the cam sensor disappeared. WTF!? After approaching them with this, they told me that it was part of the repair and they couldnt return it anyway and that Jesus made a mistake. Right. So they couldnt honor their previous refund so they can cover their bottom line. So I haggle with them going back and forth, they claim that first of all they didnt charge labor when they were supposed to on the timing issue because SUPPOSEDLY the timing chain had nothing to do with the original problem (remember the timing chain tensioner they replaced? Right...), we ended up settling for a $100 refund. As I went back to work I actually felt a little remorse for bothering them so much about it, but then I decided to pay the dealer another visit. Turns out the cam sensor part costs $59.27!! AND I KNOW FOR A FACT THEY PAY LESS THAN THAT FOR THE SAME EXACT PART. Hows that for a markup? And they want to tell me that they were giving me a deal and giving me a break? You be the judge Do yourselves a favor: buy a Haynes Repair Manual at your local Autozone/Napa/Advance Autoparts of your make/model and read the "Troubleshooting" section. Dont just take a mechanics word. Try to understand whats going on and then go from there. Also, before they start any job make sure you get a list of what needs to be done and what parts need to be replaced and look up prices on those parts from the dealer.

Let me start by saying Im from a small independent rental car company 500 miles away. We had a customer stop in here because their was some sort of issue with the rental. What it was I still have no idea (theres a bit of a language barrier w/ the customer). So they happened upon this garage. We contacted the manager and were told the transmission was shot and would need a full rebuild or replaced. The car has low mileage, so this was a surprise, but stranger things have happened. We happen to have a transmission specialist in our garage who talked to them about the details of the problem. They claimed to have pulled the trans pan, and that it was full of metal, and that the car would not move. The customer decided to find other transportation, so we opted to have the car brought back to us. The manager graciously decided not to charge us for the diagnostic work or for removing & reinstalling the transmission pan, but he had to charge storage while the car was there. After $600+ in storage and transporting costs we got the car back. Let me tell you the surprise when the transporting service drove the car off the trailer and into our lot. After all they told us the car wouldnt move. Then we get our transmission guy to look at it and the transmission still had the factory seal on the pan! They never pulled the pan, so Im not sure where they found all the metal. Add to that the fluid looked pretty clean, not burnt like would be expected on a bad transmission, but not new either. The computer did have a slew of transmission codes, but it also looks like someone had been messing with the electrical connections to cause them. So we road test the car and find absolutely nothing wrong with the transmission. None of the codes returned and we are stuck clueless as to what was wrong with the car to begin with. At least were only out storage and transporting fees and not the quoted cost of a transmission overhaul it didnt end up needing.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!! MY CAR WAS STALLING SO I TOOK IT TO AAMCO TRANSMISSIONS IN NEW ROCHELLE, NY. I WAS TOLD THE SENSORS WERE CLOGGED. ONCE THE OFFICE MANAGER, JESUS, FOUND OUT I HAD A WARRANTY NOW MY TRANSMISSION FLUIDS ARE CONTAMINATED. MY WARRANTY COVERED $2000 AND I PAID $2000 TOWARDS A $4,895 SERVICE. AFTER HAVING MY CAR FOR TWO WEEKS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS TOLD BY JESUS THAT THE REBUILT TRANSMISSION AND TORGUE CONVERTER WAS FAULTY. AFTER WAITING FOR ONE MONTH FOR THE THEM TO UPHOLD THEIR WARRANTY ON MY PARTS I HAD TO TAKE THEM TO COURT. I WILL WARN YOU, MY TRANSMISSION WAS NEVER CHANGED. THERES NO WAY YOUR FLUID CAN BE NORMAL AND CONTAMINATED AND I WON MY CASE. THE TRANSMISSION THAT I HAD ON MY CAR I STILL HAVE 1 YEAR LATER. ILL PAY THE EXTRA MONEY AT MY DEALER BEFORE ANOTHER PRIVATE MECHANIC TOUCH MY CAR

My transmission started slipping while going over the GWB on my way to a College ID soccer camp. I was in full panic mode with my 15 year old daughter in the car. I limped along in 4th gear until I found this Aamco location in New Rochelle. Chris took my car in quickly, and got me a rental car in minutes, and had us back on the road, we miraculously made it to the camp on time. Even though I decided to trade my car in instead of fixing it, Chris was great, he explained all the available options to me and provided a very competitive quote (I confirmed with my dealer) with a good warranty. He held my car for 2 days also. He really helped out during what was a very stressful situation for my daughter and me. I would highly recommend this shop based on the character of the employees and management.
