Im Kennedy. Im a 17 year old African American. I came to SmartStyle Hair Salon in Saratgo New York in a rush to get my hair wand curled for my prom that was in 4 hours (mind you, I live an hour in a half away so I was anxious to find a decent place). I walked up to the front desk where I met this lady, behind her were white women getting their hair curled and done up for what looked to be for prom so I was confident this was a good place for me to go. I started talking to her & asking her if there was a spot open. She said I would just have to wait 30 minutes. I could do that I had 30 minutes. I continued to ask her if she could us a curling wand instead of an actual curling iron cause I like the look it gave my hair (I wear weave btw). Her mood kind of shifted & she started giving me the smirkiest attitude. The lady told me they dont know how to use a curling wand...HOLD ON, okay so you dont know how to use a curling wand but you work at a salon. That is a damn lie..all you have to do is rap the hair around and wait 30 seconds. If I had the time to do it I wouldve but I had to get to a makeup appointment done in an hour. Anyways, I asked her how long it would take to just get it done & she continued to tell me 2 hours.. Im sorry but it does NOT take 2 hours to wand curl anyones hair. If anything its quicker to use a wand rather than a curling iron. I think its just foolish. I told her I could only use up an hour or an hour & 15 minutes of my time & her exact words were "Nope, thats just not gonna cut it" then she gave me the rudest look ever. Like I had just insulted her. I didnt know what to think. I was shocked, upset, & anxious I wouldnt get my hair done for my senior prom. I told her "No problem, Ill just find another place" then walked away in distress. I do NOT recommend going here if youre going to get your hair curled, wand or ironed. If it takes 2 hours to do that then honey if I were you I wouldnt waste my time, find a place to go that isnt messing around.

I would never go anywhere else in the area for my haircuts. Its difficult to find someone who can do a military cut well, but Kayla (the manager) pulls it off every time. Ive been going there every 2-3 weeks for over a year and a half, and have never been disappointed.

Amazing salon with great girls working here. Went in as an out of towner looking for an updo and walked out with a piece of art. They are amazing! I would definitely recommend. Great prices to...especially compared to others in the area.
