OVERALL EXPERIENCE I have an ongoing excellent experience at the World Gym since joining in the fall. FAMILY ORIENTED There are many young families there, parents exercising as their children exercise as well in a carefully watched yet fun environment. CARING STAFF During Hurricane Sandy, World Gym opened their doors to all the public for showers, phone charging, etc. The professional staff there, both ones who gave classes and the tennis pros, offered their services for a special fund raising weekend for another hard hit hurricane employee. We raised a lot of funds, and it was very touching. TENNIS After 30 years of not playing tennis I hesitantly approached the tennis staff who both coaxed and embraced me, and I have been getting steadily better. PERSONAL TRAINING I am now working with Oneil Pryce (aka Real Deal Oneil) who is an incredible personal trainer. POOLS There is a marvelous professional teaching the swimming aerobics classes - outstanding EQUIPMENT CONDITION AND TENNIS COURTS - These are not perfect, however, given the camaraderie, friendliness to new members and the ability to not have to wait for a specific piece of equipment, I can stand it. They have several housekeeping/maintenance people constantly cleaning the work areas - I mean constantly. In a dream world the elliptical TVs would work most of the time, and the tennis courts wouldnt be so damp and leaky. However, you can still play on the courts and I am hoping that they are renovating them, as they are also renovating parts of the lockers. OVERALL RATING - Excellent, because they continue to try to improve. Its impossible to have a perfect huge sports arena like this - its like your house - it needs constant upkeep. Again, the leaks are the biggest issue at the moment, but weve had a rough stormy year and I believe they will fix the courts this Spring. BILLING NOTE: I had a glitch in one of my billings, and the staff called me back immediately and we resolved the issue - it turned out to be my credit card company, not a fault of the gyms, however they were right on it and didnt quit until it was resolved.

The club has recently put in a brand new circuit of Life Fitness strength equipment. Most of the cardio equipment is brand new with individual tvs on most of the equipment. The equipment is well maintained and there is a person cleaning a wiping down the equipment everyday. I just left LA FITNESS where there was black mold in the locker rooms and there was an awful smell. The fitness director has everyone putting away their free weights so it makes it much easier to use the plate loaded equipment. There are two locker rooms. The pool locker room has been recently updated and it is very convenient next to the pool and gym area. The best part of the gym is that it is a true neighborhood gym and the people are very friendly. As a gym member I can rollerblade on the arena and also use the outdoor tennis courts.

Had a summer membership here a while back, but recently tried out the location when i was in the area for an extended weekend. The gym is large, but has a lot of other facilities (tennis, pool, hockey rink) that I didnt take into consideration for this review. All the equipment has seen better days, looks like theyve been in use for a while, but still decently well maintained. They have a good amount of racks and benches to accommodate a big gym crowd, and an upstairs cardio section to keep traffic separate from the weights. They have everything you can want there, and the people lifting seem to put back their weights. I find this place has a better atmosphere than LA Fitness, and the equipment here seems the same as what LA Fitness has. Would be willing to train here if I lived in the area.

I recommend you spend your money somewhere else.The facilities are fine but I had a terrible time trying to cancel my membership after three years of loyal membership. The office administration and personnel are disorganized. They lost my cancellation form and charged me for two months after I cancelled and refused to refund me the money because there was no cancellation form in my file.

Gym managers are very unprofessional and are never there. Front desk girl told us "we never know when shes here, she kinda makes her own hours". What a joke. Not gonna waste anymore of my time and money with this place. I suggest you dont waste yours

Been using this gym since moving to the area 6 years ago. Love the spin class, theyre always adding new equipment or upgrading the facility, staff is very friendly and approachable.

my experience with the setauket world gym is primarily thru there tennis program. I have two grandkids enrolled, and they love it, and from my perspective the teachers are superb.
