I used to get my haircut here but not anymore. About 1 year ago I went in to get a trim, just a 1 inch off everything trim. Sounds pretty simple but what happened just shocked me. The student and instructor privately consulted which seemed odd to me since this had never happened during a haircut before. Then the student started cutting- it took me a minute or two to realize they werent regular scissors. I had to ask and was told he was thinning my hair all over. I started to freak out and saw a huge pile of hair on the floor. They had given me uneven, thinned out hair, that wasnt even thinned evenly. I dont have bangs and he thinned so much on the right side of my face that it looked like side bangs. NEVER AGAIN WOULD I EVER GET MY HAIRCUT HERE AGAIN. The instructor even approved of the cut when I left, again, it was not what I asked for, uneven, thinned, thinned unevenly and half my hair was now gone. This is after I asked him to stop thinning it and just trim the 1 inch, AND I had to pay for the butchering. I would rather pay twice the amount to actually have someone listen to what I want and not have a student practice something he needs to learn to do but the customer didnt ask for it.

I had a haircut/style and brow wax at the Gateway location, and was very pleased with my services. It was my first time at the Aveda Institute, but Id had a bad experience at a cosmetology institute before, so I requested a senior student. She was pleasant and prompt, and my total visit was only an hour and forty-five minutes, which was good considering both services, the stylists attention to my hair, and the throw-ins that Aveda offers, such as the mini facial and massage. While the stylists talked among themselves about their schooling, etc., I didnt feel ignored at all, and my stylist and I talked quite a bit, as well. I didnt get the makeup touch-up that the site says is included, but I really didnt care for it, anyway. Also, she didnt try to sell me any products, which I really appreciated. For the price and the quality, it was a great value, and Id highly recommend the institute, as long as you have the time. Id also recommend requesting a senior student.

the girl who dyed my hair took 3 hours to just do a simple highlight on my short hair! I asked for a very subtle streaks of highlights that matches my natural black hair. But she kept the bleach for so long it turned out to be orange instead of being at all close to my hair color! But at least she took the time to fix it so giving 2 stars for that. Then i also wanted a haircut but apparently the girl only knows how to color hair. Gave me the most god awful haircut thats not evened out at the bottom! I showed her a picture just so she knew what exactly I wanted. She didnt even look at the picture for a second. As you can tell she cut my hair nothing like the picture, no layers what so ever when I specifically asked for layers! And of course she could not cut it to the length i asked for, now its so short i want to cry. NEVER. AGAIN.

This place is hit or miss - understandably - because its a SCHOOL! Dont come here expecting a perfect experience. Ive had them set me up with beginners when I asked for an experienced student. Ive had students cut holes in my hair, give me bangs on accident, etc, you name it. The reason to come here is because its cheap. You can pay a few bucks more for one of their senior students, and usually get a pretty good "salon grade" haircut. They do have experienced teachers on hand watching over the students. If youre not happy, let them know and get a free visit back or something like that. Ive had some great haircuts here also. And the coloring is so cheap, its wonderful! If the color wasnt what I wanted, I come back within 7 days and get it fixed for free.

i went to Aveda, because they were offering free haircuts. i just recently had a hair cut, but decided to get it evened out and lined up in the back. i came out with a gauge on the side and what seems to look like an inch bar across my neck thats skin tight and the rest of my head 1/4 inch. Even the instructor checked the student off as if shes done a good job. they tried to bland the side in but you can still see it. and i went back later, after seeing the back of my neck, as she didnt even let me see it, and demanded that someone at least taper it so itd look half way normal. they were all booked, so i have to go back tomorrow morning... this will be an awkward night.

mcfadden the irish babe is the dynamite. baby change ur attitude baby. baby boys will be coming more to aveda if the attitude is right. the attitude determines the avedas altitude. concentrate on the previous customers , so that u can retain and more make dollars. aveda management needs to get more dollars , focus more on customer service than rather being ignoring the boys or girls. Need less to say dont cut the branch on which u are sitting. the management needs to get their act together. i love aveda more and more. especially the irish mcfadden and curly instructor

Hate this place so much. Dont ever get a permanent wave they burned my hair so bad that its impossible to do anything now. I asked for bigger roll but the girl insisted using smaller roll and i hated it. After that she told me to see after 2 weeks if i still dont like it and when i came back the store goes like oh you signed the contract to come back in one week and you didnt so you have to pay again. I dont even want to give one star. They ruined my hair so bad. If you want the worst hair in the whole country, theyll be your best bet. And plus the curl didnt even come out well.

The Aveda Institute offers exceptional customer service and work. Prices are affordable and every student I had services helps me meet my beauty needs. The Instructors/Supervisors are welcoming and personable. When I call for appointments, staff are helpful, caring, and listen to my questions/requests. If you have not booked your appointment, you need to. You will save money or you can treat yourself for a couple extra services. My Mani/Pedi appointments will always be scheduled at The Aveda Institute vs any other salon. They are Fantastic Fabulous!!

Went for a haircut.Keep in mind that because these are learning students, this haircut is likely to take longer than normal because the instructors are involved before and after the cuttings. They are all so nice and friendly. I have been here twice now and I think these students are better because they are more apt to please the customer and learn how to cut hair "right" according to each person. I really enjoy coming here and will come again when i need another cut. Plus its a good price for the service.
