I would give 0 stars if possible. LA Fitness is not what I would classify as professional or business friendly. I initially signed up for a month to month single membership. As part of their package, I receive a free personal training assessment. I did and decided it would be beneficial to a healthier me. I sat down to discuss, they wanted to do 12 months at $300/m. The price was high and I only wanted 6 months. The manager told me to let him contact his supervisor. He calls, and the supervisor is put on speakerphone. The guy tells me that he can work some "magic" on his end. I agree and pay my first month $200/m, plus a $99 initiation. I set my appointment for the next week. I show and no one is aware of my appointment. The staff offers to reschedule. I reschedule for the following week. I show up and wait for 25 minutes for my trainer to be tracked down. We go through the workout and schedule for the next week. I show up and I wait for about 15 minutes for my trainer to show up. We workout. I schedule for the following week. I show up, the trainer is a no show. I reschedule for the next week. I show up, the trainer is a no show, but there is another trainer that substitutes. He schedules me for the next week with my assigned trainer. I show up and the trainer is a no show. I am then told by the store manager that the Regional VP will be calling me to resolve the issue, as they are unable to facilitate my needs. I waited 2 weeks. Nothing.. I call this location and request to speak with the manager. I am informed again that the Regional VP would be in contact with me within the next day. I waited 3 days and called back. I was then given the cell number of the said Regional VP and his name. His name was Dan. I reach out to Dan several times, leaving messages each time. This goes on for 2 weeks. I hear nothing. I contact the corporate number to speak with someone above Dan. I am informed that someone would be reaching out to me within the next day. Dan appears with a phone call at this point, on the basis of my call to corporate. To be honest Dan had proven his incompetence at this point and I had no desire to speak with him. Though, I proceeded to hear what Dan had to say. He informs me that they would offer me a 50% buyout on the remainder of my contract. I declined. As at this point I have continuously paid $200/m, as I await for a responsible party. I explained that they had already void their own contract. They had also not responded within a legal timely manner. I asked that they cease billing immediately, and informed him that I would continue my membership if they were proper. By this point things had been soured of personal training through them. My goal for personal training was structure and accountability, someone to drive and push me. That was something they were unable to provide, and the store manager admitted. Dan informed me, that they would not cease billing. I requested to speak with his superior. He informed me that they would reach out to me. It has now been months. No contact. I called corporate today, and was told again that someone would be in touch. At this point I will be seeking restitution, making report on the brand, including the BBB. I should have read the BBB reports prior to choosing LA Fitness. They have many bad reviews, with several that relate.

I "gym shopped" and visited 4 other gyms before finally deciding on a membership at Urban Active. What impressed me most was the wide variety of offerings included in the relatively low monthly rate. As previously mentioned, there is an indoor track, a lap pool, a basketball court, a cardio theater, a spinning room, a women-only weight area, lots of weight equipment and even more cardio equipment. Plus, all the classes are included free and, contrary to the post below, there was a class in session just yesterday morning when I was there. The classes do change every couple of months so that you get to try new things. I have been a member for almost 2 years now and would have to disagree with almost all of the negative comments posted. • I did have a billing problem once and I when I brought it to the attention of the management they fixed it immediately and I did not have to make any follow-up calls to corporate, etc. The overcharge was credited back to my account in two days. • Of course equipment needs periodic repairs/replacing and any problems always seem to be fixed quickly. I have even seen gym staff working their way through all the cardio equipment testing the TVs to make sure everything is working well. They really do a good job of upkeep and I personally have never seen cracks in the benches, etc. • The gym is also very clean. I see cleaning staff there EVERY day vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing just about every surface imaginable. I have never seen a mess on the floor or debris on the equipment, etc. • As for the training staff, I have to say that if you are a personal training client, they could not be nicer. They are very friendly and very helpful. You receive a free session when you join the club and I bought several follow-up sessions which were very effective in helping me lose those last 10 pounds. I have found that if you are not a client and the trainers do not know you, they mostly ignore you - but I have never, EVER had anyone be rude to me - trainer, staff or patron. • I have never experienced problems waiting on the front desk - they are always quick to check me in. I have occasionally needed a bandage or had a quick question and they were very accommodating. • One more note - I have used the playroom there since my baby was 8 weeks old. The staff is amazing and they treat my child like their own, welcoming her by name every time they see her. I have been completely happy with Urban Active and will continue my membership as long as I live in the area.

I was a member of this Urban Active from when it first opened until recently. The club has a nice basketball area, racquetball court, lap pool, fitness classroom, and spinning area - the facility itself moves this from a 1 star to a 2 star. The issues begin with the upkeep of the equipment. A third of the televisions on the cardio machines are broken and are never fixed. The benches get cracks and are never recovered. The nautilus machines go unrepaired for weeks at a time. The service is also terrible. You have to wait for the "bubbly" girls at the front desk to stop flirting with their male coworkers before theyll check you in or answer your question. I knew I was making the right choice to cancel when I had to wait 5 minutes before the desk clerk decided to come over and talk to me as I waited for assistance. The DVD in the cardio cinema room is also controlled by the front desk folks and they often forget to restart the movie at the end, leaving you staring at a blank screen. The personal training staff is rude to people who are working out next to their customers, often standing in the way of access to the next piece of equipment and snipping at anyone who asks them to move. God help you if you ever need any billing assistance - the front desk sends everything to a mysterious central office that may or may not help you. If the rate is low (<$30/month) this facility has everything you need to effectively work out - just dont think you are getting the top tier club they try to say they are.
