Our family is originally from the Portland area so when my Uncle passed in September of 2011 the family used Wilhelms for his arrangements. They were professional, caring and reasonable in their pricing. So when my Dad passed away in April of 2017 in Arizona, we immediately called Michael and he loving cared for every detail lifting a load of burden off our shoulders at a time of deep sorrow! With excellence he handled everything from arrangements to care for the body in Phoenix and having it shipped to Portland (arranging the flight and letting us know so family could travel with his body) to going the extra mile and contacting the local fire department for extra pall bearers we requested.(my Dad was a retired fire fighter)(such a memorable part of his burial to have those firefighters there!) His explanations regarding needed products & services were kind, clear and extremely fair and we are SO GRATEFUL for how we were treated in a time when we could have easily been taken advantage of because of our sorrow. Thank you Wilhelms, and especially Michael, for your integrity and generosity in serving our family. We deeply appreciate it! May God continue to bless you for your excellent service!

26 years ago, my in-laws pre-paid for two small niches for themselves. My father-in-law died 10 years ago where he lived with us in Louisiana. His ashes were interred in his niche. No additional charge. We are now back from Louisiana for a few days with our whole family trying to inter my mother -in-laws ashes. These new owners, not the kind family who we dealt with 10 years ago, want to NOW charge us $695 to open a damn tiny door to put in the urn. WTF. The manager was so rude to my wife. She is not kind or a humanist and needs to find a new line of business. I wish I could pull my wifes father and HIS parents out of that place. My wife and I planned to be with them someday and had a nice chat with the family owners about fitting us in above my on laws for a nominal fee. NOT. Im livid. We were treated like dirt today in front of my children and grandchildren.

Used to be a well run place. I recently went to take flowers to put in a niche for my grandparents remains and for an aunt. There doesnt seem to be any maintenance going on in the older sections. Had to run water for 5 minutes just to get clean water for the flower vases. Nothing but rusty nasty water came out if the faucets. Went to the oldest section to the other niche. No power anywhere, and everything was moldy. No lights on the stairs or in the hallways. It was dark as a tomb, and Im not trying to make a pun. The place was just nasty. It aught to be shut down. Id like to move my relatives ashes out of the place to someplace decent, but they told me theyd charge $750 per niche just to open the little glass doors and hand me the urns.

Over the last six years, my family has used Wilhelm Portland Memorial for four cremations and one funeral service. The entire staff is extremely knowledgable and caring! They make the transition of losing a loved one so much easier at a time when you need it the most. They provide guidance, answer any questions and ensure all your needs, and questions, are met. Right down to a cup of coffee and cookies. Thank you, Wilhelm Portland Memorial, for all you have done in the past and will be doing for me in the future. Judith R. Kallio

Comprehensive packages help you take the worry out of the cost and planning. I kept asking about additional fees and they kept explaining that everything was included. If you have a family member who is retired military, there are significant hoops and considerations, which they help you navigate in minutes. I kept wondering what the upsell would be and there never was one. Dont waste your energy by shopping around. Wilhelm/Valley Memorial posts fees on their website. No surprises, except positive ones.

Having delt with a few different Funeral Homes in the past, Im especially grateful to the staff at Wilhelms for their compassion and professionalism. My experience here has been heads above the rest. Id especially like to thank Laura and Patti for their kindness, good humor and flexibility during a difficult time.

The staff were friendly and helpful in locating a family member and providing a map that was easy to navigate. Most people will recognize the birds in flight mural on the exterior West side of mausoleum, which is the largest outdoor hand painted mural in the United States.

Laura was phenomenal, no pressure and quite professional. There were extras but not excessive and we expected that what was purchased by our parents long ago had some price pressure over the years. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend Laura again.
