No one planned my grandmothers arrangements. They were suggested by a social worker saying they handled indigent cremation cases. My grandparents, being on social security and having no life insurance polices left, are/were indigent. Their idea of indigence is $1700+ for a direct cremation. This means there are NO funeral or memorial services provided. After all of the chaos of a loved ones death cleared, I decided to look around on the internet at prices because it just seemed too high. I was SHOCKED... and VERY ANGRY. There are quite a few other crematories that were offering services for a much lower rate... like in upwards of $1200 cheaper! When her death certificate came in, I found all kinds of mistakes on it.*I* (the family genealogist ) gave the information, CORRECT information. What came back on the death certificate was not the information I had provided to the person handling the cremation. I am also now receiving a bill after paying half down for my grandfather in the last name of BOAG. Which is not what the funeral home has on record. Having a forked tongue and in fear of letting loose on these uneducated and deaf imbeciles, I have waited to go make a payment on behalf of my grandfather. The "gentleman" handling the accounts ... well, lets just say he is less than charming ... He called me before 9 a.m. on a Friday morning, having to work a busy Friday day in the bar. When confronted with these issues, tried to become very insulting... and insinuated I was the one who screwed up the information on a woman who had been my grandmother for 37 years. I am afraid to pick up her ashes for fear that I may be bringing the wrong ones home. PLEASE do your research and do your loved ones a favor by planning in the event of your death. And if you must use this funeral home, be leary! When burying my son, we had life insurance and had the luxury of giving him a nice funeral. We used Cook-Walden in Pflugerville. Nothing but the utmost respect from the staff... from the time we walked in 15 years ago to plan his funeral, until now.

This was my first planning of a funeral for a loved one. I used the AMBIS 2013 SURVEY OF AUSTIN AREA PRICES OF SELECTED FUNERAL GOODS AND SERVICES list provided to me by Hospice Austins social worker. Austin-Peel was one of the least expensive of funeral homes and I was recommended to the owner, Mr. Billy Peel by a friend of mine that works at Assumption Mausoleum and Cemetery. My friend also works at Angel Funeral Home and he guided me to Mr. Peel because he told me that Mr. Peel would "take care of me." What surprised me was the inexpensive price for services compared to other funeral homes. The total that I paid was probably a third of what I wouldve paid with other funeral homes. The job they did was amazing and memorable!!! This funeral home went over and beyond to make sure that every detail of the funeral was perfect. I told Mr. Peel I did not want a funeral procession with the Austin Police as escorts and that would cut down on a lot of cost. He suggested that we have a Memorial Service in the evening and then the following day everyone would meet the hearse with the casket and flowers at Assumption Mausoleum. The Memorial Service / Visitation was perfect in every detail from the flat screen television flashing pictures of my husbands life set to country music playing in the background to the incredible automotive memorabilia provided by Leif Johnson Ford where my husband worked for 40 years. The funeral home made my husband look so great despite his terrible illness and it was all the small details that comforted me during that time. This funeral home, even the mortician and administrative assistants, namely Kelly and Joel, were awesome!! I visited them often before my event and I joked with them that I was "moving in!!" and they laughed. My experience with them convinced my family that when my Mom passes, we will definitely use Austin-Peel and son Funeral Home for our arrangements. For this high level of service and price, why would anyone go ANYWHERE ELSE????? Sincerely, Linda Summerlin, Leander, Texas

My mom passed away on Sept 6, 2015. She had been suffering from Alzheimers for over a decade, so needless to say she looked very different than she did 10 years ago. I contacted Mr. Billy Peel of Austin-Peel & Son Funeral Home because of the location, price and reviews. While they met or exceeded our expectations on those items, what we did not expect was how beautiful she would look on the day of her funeral. Through pictures and descriptions from my siblings and myself they were able to make mom look like she did before the disease, as if she were just sleeping. At one point during the funeral I leaned over to my dad and whispered how beautiful she looked. He said The first time I saw your mother I thought she was the most beautiful woman in the world. She looks like that now. Mom passed one month shy of their 60th wedding anniversary, so that should say it all. We are so grateful to Mr. Peel and the entire staff for their kindness, patience and professionalism, but most of all for giving us the chance to see the mother that raised us and the woman that dad fell in love with one last time.

They did a wonderful job when my mother passed away. They were respectful, kind and thoughtful. Everything was done in a beautiful and professional manner. We never felt hurried or rushed at any of the services. The programs they printed for the funeral were beautiful. All information on the programs, obituary, certificates, etc. was completely correct. But most of all, the job they did on my mother was absolutely perfect. She looked so natural and beautiful-just the way I remembered her. I was so pleased with the job they did that I decided to use their prepaid services for my husband, son and me. I had been looking at other funeral homes at the time so I was extremely surprised and pleased when I discovered that the cost of their services was one half to a third of what other funeral homes were charging.

Please improve by: I wish they would have called us before making us all arrived there. Just please check before services begins and everyone started to arrive. It is hard enough to even come here but it was made harder: a cremation for a loved one that we did not get to know. The response on 9/13/15 at 1 pm was "our cremation device is broken." With more sadness we decided to go on with the cremation and was escorted without any police officers just a black four wheeler in front and a hearse? to Capital Mortuary Services: Austin Texas on 201 Victor St. It could have been easier if someone would have checked the day before or the two hours before services.

Arranging for a loved ones funeral services is stressful and daunting. But Joel Evans at Austin Peel made everything so simple and convenient. He is compassionate and professional, and handled the entire process in a respectful way, not the pushy, salesy way that many other funeral directors do. I think it can only come from 40 years of experience. I cannot say enough good things about the experience, and am extremely happy that Joels help made the difficult situation much more tolerable and manageable.
