I have been with CFO since they opened their doors in 2013 and have known Mike and Angelina even back further when they first moved to San Antonio to chase their dream of running their own business. One of the things that sets CFO apart from other "boxes" Ive dropped in on is the sense of "family", or borrowing the title from Sebastian Jungers latest book, "tribe". You are made to feel at home there regardless of your current state of physical fitness or experience as a CrossFit athlete. The other, that I have yet to see in other places Ive worked out in, is their concern for the safety of the athlete. I personally have been stopped while in the middle of a workout and been told "Stop, look at what position youre in. You keep doing that and youre going to hurt yourself.". A little correction goes a long way in advancing the skills and work output of their athletes. In addition to using CFO for general physical preparedness, I have used CFOs (now hibernating) running program to gain a PR at the Vegas half marathon, their Ruck program to train and complete the 2015 and 2016 Bataan Memorial Death March (26.2 miles through the high desert of New Mexico while carrying 35 pounds of dry weight in a rucksack with close to 2,000 of elevation gain) as well as some informal sessions to complete numerous GORUCK events (GORUCK Tough Class 1727, Ingress Urban Ops Class 0016, GORUCK Navigator and GORUCK Light Austin in 2015). The breadth of knowledge Mike and Anjo possess expands beyond just the box. For the tl;dr crowd, theyre good people who care about their athletes, will make you feel like family and can introduce you to things outside of the CrossFit world.

while in town from AZ I was looking for a place to "drop in". Found this place through web search and after checking out their website that says they welcome visitors, I decided to give them a try. Walked in on 5/26 @4:30 and asked them if they take drop ins and was told "no... we dont. But the place down the street does. theyre only about a 1/4 mile down the street" As a frequent traveller I have visited cf boxes all over the southwest and this is literally the first one that has turned me away. Wtf? So, I did go down the street to Command Cf and they were great. Had a great workout and they were happy to take drop ins. If you are in the area or looking to drop in, I would start there. *update* Spoke with owner MikE. Very professional and was happy to discuss issue that was a simple miscommunication. Thanks Mike for personally responding and resolving this issue.

I drive 23 miles one way from my house to Crossfit Optimistic. There are plenty of Crossfit gyms closer to my house. So why this one? Its the people of course. From the moment you walk through the door you are a part of the Optimistic family. The coaches care, your fellow members care and everyone is pulling in the same direction. There is a level and a pace for everyone. Never been to Crossfit before? No problem, there is something there for you. Five year Crossfit veteran? New challenges to be found here also. Almost every gym or box you visit will have enough equipment to get the job done. At the end of the day its the coaches and members that are going to keep you coming back...

CrossFit Optimistic provides an exceptionally welcoming workout environment. The staff is fully engaged with the membership and committed to helping us achieve our goals. Ive gained strength and endurance and a whole new level of confidence in my abilities, which has transcended the gym and affected other aspects of my life in the most positive ways. Ive made some great friends and it really feels like my home away from home. Its a great place to WOD!

I was looking to transition from competitive Rugby into something both social and challenging. Crossfit Optimistic has that and more! Having no Crossfit experience, the feeling of community surprised me. I have been encouraged and motivated to improve my workouts and personal health. Since joining, I am down 30 pounds and looking forward to work outs for the first time in a long time. Great staff and great people.

You couldnt ask for a nicer group of people, great coaches, and patient as I am trying to get back into it after moving and months of procrastination. The owner made it a point to introduce themselves ( I thought was cool), encourage you and tell you to move your tail when you are dragging it. There is a lot of boxes out there to choose from, I went to several in the area and happy with the one I picked.

Crossfit Optimistic is the perfect combination of serious workout and family environment. The coaches know their stuff and there is a daily emphasis on proper technique and safety. They have the knack of drawing my best effort out in every workout. I have seen a dramatic improvement in overall fitness, especially in strength, while at the same time, I have never enjoyed my exercise program more.

Ive been a member at this box now for two years and the members and coaches are my 2nd family. Not only are the coaches knowledgable, they are very attentive to their members. Its obvious that members arent just numbers to them. Going to work out there is always one of the highlights of my day and I highly recommend Crossfit Optimistic for anyone looking to join a crossfit facility!!

Without a doubt the best box ! The coaches really care about our health and safety. Having had shoulder problems in the past some of the exercises worry me but Coach Anjo help me find a safe way to perform all the WODs. The other members of our box make the WODs so much fun whether by cheering you on or seeing the previous times from the day and striving to top them.

The name says it all. The coaches are top notch --effectively teaching technique, encouraging you to push yourself and genuinely taking an interest in everyone regardless of skill level. Also, the members have a unique bond and have helped cultivate a relaxed, family-like atmosphere. I truly look forward to coming to CFO --even if we have to do overhead squats!

I had the pleasure of working out here for about six months before I moved away. The owners are amazing people and the coaches are great and are truly there to help you progress at your own speed. It definitely has a family vibe so whether you are new to crossfit or looking for a new box, check this place out. Two and a half thumbs up.
