My daughter (Senior & Senior Company Member of Columbia Dance) has taken classes with Columbia Dance since before she was able to wear pointe shoes. The Columbia Dance teachers & staff have always been approachable, understanding and helpful with the stages our daughter has grown through at the studio. The key, with any activity you intend on investing your money and childs time, is to be involved with the organization too. Obviously, in the beginning, young children are learning the basics. Every teacher has their unique methods. Its important to expose your child to a variety of teachers/classes. Our daughter attended several quite well known Vancouver dance schools. She learned something in every school, but Columbia Dance has been the base of her experience. Regardless of the activity your child is drawn to, be open, patient, involved and flexible. The Columbia Dance family is ever-evolving and offers a unique experience to the dedicated dancer and family. Our time has been rewarding and beneficial to us and our daughter over the years and has allowed her to hone her dance and life skills. The secure building with sprung dance floors in each well lit studio has been a safe haven and second home for her and her friends.

i have been taking classes here since i was 5, in their nutcracker performances since i was 7, and have been a company apprentice for the past two years. i grew up here, and all these teachers, girls, boys, of all age are my family. theyve been with me through thick and thin, and those are just the people. the classes here are amazing, the creative dance/modern/preballet teacher, Liz has been my teacher sine the very beginning and i s very supportive, and knows her stuff. my ballet teacher Jan, definitely knows what shes doing and is supportive of us as well. marty, our lyrical/hiphop teacher is an alumni himself. this studio made me who i am and it is open and friendly to everyone.

This school has a nice location, nice building, classrooms and a very kind teacher for the younger children. Sadly, I was disappointed to find that the Creative Dance class my 4 year old has been taking is a waste of time and money. She has had dance classes before elsewhere - so I have some ideas about what a 4 year old can do. This class lacks any real instruction on dancing and if you ask me is more suitable for a 2 year old (but still wouldnt teach them dancing). Columbia Dance does not offer an alternative class for young children until they are 6 years old and they can sign up for pre-Ballet.

I have studied at Columbia dance for 12 years. In the beginning the classes are simple and fun once you’re older the beginner class gives way to a much more demanding program to give you the tools to become a wonderful dancer. I am thankful for now that I have gotten older and have grown into the skills I was taught at a young age.

I started with Columbia when i was four, and am still there to this day, they have excellent training and great teachers and i have made many friends. i recommend it to many people and i think it is the perfect place to receive formal ballet training. i am now going to be a company apprentice and cant wait(:
