I was a huge fan of this store for years, having lived in Madison for almost 10 years now. Im somewhat of a movie buff and so of course I enjoyed the selection and foreign collection. However, recently when I tried to cancel my subscription plan I was caught off guard by the not so nice customer service. I had called in to ask a question about the stipulations involving the amount of time before my renewal date and was told by a staff member quote "you should be fine. (to come in tomorrow and cancel your plan)" Well that staff member failed to tell me that I could have easily cancelled my subscription via email. When I arrived at the store the next day, I was told by the manager sorry but you have to give 48 hours notice, I said hey I called and was told that I could do this today, the manager looked and asked the employee who I spoke with on the phone if he had told me that and the employee lied blatantly to his manager and to my face that he wouldnt have said I would be ok to come in 24/12 hours in advance to cancel my plan. Then they were basically calling me, the customer, the liar. This made me very upset, I left and then decided to come back in and asked to speak with the manager , but that was who I had spoken with, finally after much agonizing,the owner who just so happened to be there said "just cancel it." And then the manager basically came down off his policy high horse and said yeah you should be fine, the fees are applied the date of renewal . I wish I would have shown them my phone and the record of the call, just to prove that I had indeed spoken with their less than knowledgeable employee. I was sad and disheartened that I was treated with so much bs corporate policy , especially after being a loyal and courteous patron for so long. Sorry to say I wont be recommending them to anyone anymore, unless they want something they cant download or find online. one star for four star

These people truly care about their customers as much as they do about their collection of movies, whether on DVD or BluRay. They also have a marvelously extensive television show collection, American-made, British, and other foreign sources. They also have gift certificates which make handy, fun gifts, as well as several levels of monthly memberships which allow you to have multiple selections out at a time: just pick your price! Four Star Video Haven is a cooperative do these folk are personally vested in your interests in movies and shows. Four Star cant be beaten for enjoying the newest choices and re-enjoying everything from newbies to oldies, particularly with a membership! Go on, stroll on in and see all they have to offer you! Everyone deserves to explore and see what you can find to suit your particular tastes! Give yourself the gift of browsing at Four Star! You can even get a free movie rental for your birthday! :)

When in Madison and looking for a movie- this is the place to go for movie lovers. {Oh, and there are otherwise usually impossible gems to be found here). Intense (meaning large) selection of foreign films and documentaries. Great selection of older movies, plus of course new releases. Also, not of my interest, large selection of TV movie/shows. I read some complaints about .cust service being lacking - this has not been my experience- in fact just the opposite. Knowledgeable staff has helped me find movies and suggest movies. One time, an older movie was suggested, only to find it had been checked out- so the clerk took the time to quickly write down the detail- title- main actors- short plot summery- year (a little over the top- but appreciated.) - Side note: they also sell a small selection of plants.

I agree that four star is a convenient place for downtown residents but I do find it limited in many vital ways. Many workers display absolute apathy toward the customers and often dont mention important polices (late fees after 7 pm etc) . In addition, sure the selection is great if you identify as an "indie queer, coffee house intellectual" but often times it come up short for us normal folks . But I suppose those objections dont matter much when there isnt any near by competition and most customers are students. Save your time and headaches by sticking with chains like blockbuster or netflix, better yet, download for free. PS. Be Leary of reviews written by employees of businesses. ;)

This is the PERFECT place to rent movies if youre a student. Living downtown, this is the most convenient place to get a movie, not to mention the fantastic subscription deal (currently $17.99/ month for 3 movies out at a time with no late fees). Definitely better than Blockbuster subscription service or Blockbuster online. Also, If you enjoy foreign films, silent films, or documentaries, they are well stocked :) Those of you who dont, dont worry, they have a great selection of new releases, action, drama, comedy, horror, tv, etc.

This place is gold. Anyone giving Four Star Video Heaven a bad review based on their "customer service" should go back to Blockbuster. Four Star Video Heaven is a gem of Madison, with an unparalleled selection and staff that is knowledgeable and friendly (unless youre a jerk, apparently). Save yourself money, get a subscription, and get your hands dirty. FOUR STARS TO FOUR STAR!

Fantastic selection of films on DVD and Blu Ray, knowledgeable albeit endearingly odd staff. A bunch of characters. Five stars for Four Star. By the way, I noticed all the negative reviews were from back when the store was under different ownership and management. It is much better now. Check it out!

Great and massive selection of movies . Foreign, drama , comedys, childrens and GLBT and always new releases.Great hours.Open early (10 am)close late(12 am), even on holidays.Great customer service.In these high tech times it is refreshing to have this locally owned business in the downtown area.

An incredible selection that shows exactly why we still need video stores. If youre at all interested in obscure, cult, independent, or foreign films then you must get a membership immediately, especially if (like me) you often struggle to find these titles online or on streaming services.
