I have been doing martial arts of one kind or another for over a decade, and I could tell right away that I had found something great in Twisted Fitness. The instructors are top notch and everyone is super welcoming. This gym is all about the love of the art and not about making money. I have been training at this gym for the past 5 years and love it here. There is a real sense of community and friendship that helps keep you motivated. Whether you want to compete or just stay fit, you will find classes here for you. I mainly attend the yoga, jiu jitsu and judo classes (because there are only so many hours in a day), but they are all taught by great instructors. As a woman it can be hard to find a martial arts school that you feel comfortable with, but this gym has quite a few women teachers and students. Plus, they have an expanding youth program for kids to learn self-defense techniques. I highly recommend you check out some of Twisted Fitness classes - I am sure they have something that you will love. I really cant say enough about this gym - get out there and try it out!

Twisted Fitness is Greater Madisons Best Mixed Martial Arts Academy. It has something for everybody, whether you are just looking to get in shape or are interested in training for competition. Its affiliation with Alliance BJJ means that Twisted fitness employs fantastic BJJ instructors and is tied in with North Americas premier BJJ team and training philosophy. Black Belt Mark Plavcan runs the BJJ program. He is truly passionate about BJJ and very motivated to see his students succeed. Twisted Fitness hosts BJJ Seminars several times per year and are taught by BJJ legends and World Champions. The Muay Thai program is run by well known and renowned Instructor John Phelan. John is one of the most talented, encouraging and patient martial arts instructors around. Twisted Fitness also has yoga and fitness classes facilitated and taught by Sonya Barton. Before I moved to Madison, I had trained Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for six years at three different academies in the Chicago area. The first thing I did when I decided to move to Madison was write a list of academies I wanted to try. There were several on the list and I visited Twisted Fitness first. After my first visit to Twisted Fitness, two years ago, I threw out the rest of my list. I instantly knew Twisted Fitness would be my new home and my training partners would become my new family. Mark and Sonya, owners and instructors, have dedicated themselves to their students and to jiu jitsu. Their passion for jiu jitsu and commitment to their students is overwhelming and they demonstrate it on the mat every night. All students, regardless if they are older or younger, men or women, athletic or want to be more athletic, will find a place (a home, rather) at Twisted Fitness.

I have been training jiu jitsu at Twisted Fitness for several years now. In my travels I have also trained at numerous other highly rated jiu jitsu academies and they dont seem to compare to the quality of Twisted Fitness. Mark and Sonya are extremely dedicated to teaching all of the latest techniques, while not losing sight of the fundamentals. They also bring in some of the best jiu jitsu competitors in the world to teach seminars, throughout the year. This past year alone, they offered seminars from two world champions! All of the students and instructors are very friendly and helpful. They also show a great deal of patience and are willing to work one-on-one with newcomers, to make sure they are getting the instruction they need. Whether you are a beginner or have trained for years, Twisted Fitness is a great environment to train and make new friends!

Solid BJJ program, with an emphasis on competition, but no pressure to compete. Self-defense taught as well. Havent tried the Muay Thai classes, but used to box with a couple guys downstairs in Fords Gym who came from that program, and they knew how to train and fight. Intense general fitness classes (boot camp, crunch-time). Take-down classes as well, incorporating judo and wrestling techniques. Both morning and evening classes offered. The proximity to Fords Gym is convenient (they share a building), if youre looking to do more than just martial arts. A unique corner of the town like no other. Great place to train. Highly recommended.

Best jiu jitsu around. Great family here. Ive been to all of the classes including muay thai and yoga and they are all great. I really have no complaints. Clean, great instruction, awesome workouts. Definitely consider checking this place if youve ever considered any of these sports or are just curious.
