You know, its really hard when youre living in the heart of Oakland/Alameda with no other options within walking distance or a short drive for Filipino food. You either have to drive out to Union City, Milpitas, Daly City, etc. for some real Filipino food. In case youre Filipino or not, I find it difficult to rate a Filipino restaurant, let alone, a place that should get credit for serving Filipino dishes in the area. Sure its a small restaurant, not many tables offered when theres a rush during lunch hour (be advisable its LUNCH time, so give them a break yelpers), and if you dont know why, food is placed as turo-turo style (Filipino terms: looks like its a buffet but you basically point at the following dishes you want ordered, etc.), prices arent hard on your wallet because in the South Bay or SF, prices are in the same price ratio $6-10, a combo plate is a single serving not a shared meal, and comes a lot closer to a home-cooked meal at any Filipino home. Dont be a fool if you expect something as an asian fusion type of restaurant, because its not. I think their main approach is geared towards catering Filipino dishes, but heck...I would place many to-go orders anyway if I lived in the East Bay. Plus, the restaurant is a mom and pop restaurant, so support the local places!! Pancit bihon or Palabok is tasty, kare-kare (oxtail soup) absolutely tastes rich in that peanut-ty flavor, chicken adobo is not something to skip, and the lumpia shanghai reminds me a little bit of my own version I make at home. Thanks to Sampaguita for keeping me happy for your delightful food whenever Im in the area and in need of some down-comfort Filipino food to sooth my cravings!

There are so few Filipino restaurants around so it pains me to give this place so little stars. Maybe, just maybe, whoever is cooking the dishes is from a different part of the Philippines so the food never tastes just right to me. Im also afraid of how long the dishes have been out without a cover. They also take care not to give you too much ulam which drives me insane.

Old school, chill vibe. I just get the pancit and lumpias. Nice service. Simple but good seating. I will keep coming back.

They charged my card for $131.77 when it was supposed to be $13.17 on memorial day weekend. Thanks for screwing that up.
