My oldest daughter had attended Yellow Brick Road (YBR) for nearly 4 years. My husband and I were pleased with the school until a few months ago. We had previously decided to continue my daughters education through kindergarten but due to recent events we decided to enroll her at a new school in the fall. In the past 6 months there have been 5 teachers hired and fired in the Preschool 3 classroom. This is the last class before the children transition to Kindergarten. We understand things sometimes dont work out, but feel the high turnover was extremely questionable. After the third teacher was let go I addressed my concerns to the owner. I was told, for legal reasons, she couldnt disclose why the teacher was let go but to be assured it was in the best interest of the children. This was very concerning, but my oldest only had a few months left before her last days at YBR. My larger concern was the inconsistencies of communication to parents. I would be told by my daughter that a teacher had "left" or a notice would be given to the parents a week later. The owner once told the children a teacher had gone on vacation when in fact she was let go. After raising questions to the owner, regarding the recent loss of another teacher, the owner handed my husband a letter. She stated "It seems your family is not happy here anymore so Ive made a business decision to no longer provide care for your children, effective Monday July 17th." My children had been expelled! My family had been very loyal to YBR. Many kids and teachers had come and gone but we remained, even when my husband lost his job and we couldnt afford it. We stayed because my daughter loved it and grew up there. After receiving the letter I no longer felt safe returning my children for their last 2 days in an environment where bullying is practiced by the leadership instead of an open dialogue between adults to address any concerns. How could I be certain that the lies I was told would not be imparted upon my children directly or indirectly after such poor and disappointing behavior was exercised by the owner? And, what true disregard for my children to have to abruptly change their routine considering my oldest only had 20 days left. Not to mention the stress to find other childcare arrangements in such short notice. I would have to agree with the previous review regarding the facility. It needs MAJOR renovations. New carpets, new floors, new paint, new playground equipment. When the carpets are "cleaned" the entire facility smells very bad. My husband and I appreciate all that our daughters have learned while enrolled at Yellow Brick Road, however with the high turnover of teachers and the actions of the owner we no longer consider it a suitable educational facility for children.
