I was very interested in this venue for my wedding so I scheduled an appointment with Mark. I detailed to him what time frame I was looking for for my wedding and he was very friendly on the phone and we exchanged cell phone numbers so that he could contact me if he had a change in plans. I live in Rancho Cucamonga, CA so I had to drive about 40 miles to get to Downey. My parents, fiance, and I arrive to the location and we began to look for Mark. My fiance spoke with a worker and said that he would try to find him. Fifteen minutes later we start to get anxious and we start asking other workers at the facility about his whereabouts. Five minutes later, someone approaches my dad and hands him packet. He then hands it to me and its a pricing packet from 2013. That same worker says "Mark isnt here, would you still like a tour? This is for a quinceanra correct?" I told this worker this is ridiculous and very unprofessional. He then said Mark had an emergency, which is fine, emergencies happen all the time, but when I drive over 40 miles ONE WAY to visit the place I would have liked a phone call so we could have rescheduled. It has been almost a week and I still have not received an email or phone call apologizing for the situation. What a waste of gas! 80 miles round trip! Be careful if you book here.

This course has a wonderful layout and play for the area and current drought conditions. However, this is a very crowded course. Most groups that are not already matched up, may be matched to make a 5-some. The pace of play is very slow and at times, too slow. Beware of the long waits and an audience at almost every tee shot. Practice greens were rather fast paced, yet was a bit rough out on the course. Fairways were decent with opportunities to play out from adjacent fairways. Staff is a bit surly, but once on the course its a great time. The driving range is a double decker with not too many stalls, they are a tad narrow, but doable.

I have played 5 rounds at Rio Hondo. The 4 previous rounds I had no problem and the course was in good shape. The last round however was my worst golf experience ever. I was part of a foursome and 9 holes took us 3:25 min. It gets worse when we have go into the proshop to speak with someone. That someone was Steve. We ask Steve for a refund which he is unwilling to do but eventually gives us $25 back. Steve tells us that we must not golf much because a 3:25 min front 9 is common around the holidays. Granted to say the customer service and pace of play was a 1 star experience.

Played on a Monday afternoon, 1:30 pm starting time. Very slow play. The group in front of me was a fivesome, as were many other groups on the course. The course design and fivesomes dont mix well, with back-to-back five pars and back-to-back three pars. Its really slow play. Worse than the pace of play was the disrespect that the locals showed the course. I fixed ball marks on every green and didnt see one sand trap that had been raked. Im not very familiar with other nearby courses, but they are probably better than Rio Hondo.

First time played on Sunday afternoon, friendly staffs and absolutely fantastic layout and almost PGA design tee to green, target golf only, some holes are very narrow with a waterline along to the green. The greens are a little bit slow because i get used to with a fast green. If you could practice there regularly, you will be a super consistent player you can play any golf course i guaranteed. Havent play the back nine yet but definitely will go there again.

Experience is individual and enjoyable This course is difficult to play but if your into challenges you will enjoy it. The price to play this course is in my opinion reasonable compared to courses of equal or lesser quality This course is maintained remarkably well. Enjoy, I do.

So pretty, the greens are well kept with beautiful waterfalls. I only lost one ball ! The last hole has a lot of range balls on the fairway but other than that it was one of the best courses Ive played in this area
