I went in for a Japanese hair straightening after reading all the rave reviews about John. I had it done once before at another location and although i loved the results the price was too much so I opted to come here hoping for good results at reasonable price. Well the first red flag was when he started complaining about how much product he was going to have to use for my thick hair. Then once the product was in he just put the plastic they usually use but didnt use any heat to make sure the product would penetrate the hair properly (i knew this from the way i had it done before) I asked about this and he reassured me saying that the other place i went to might have used a different product and that it didnt need any heat. I was a bit disconcerted but i believed him. Anyway, he kept checking my hair and telling me how strong my hair was because the product didnt seem to be doing its job but left it there for a while The end results after he "air dried it" with a blow drier and used a straightening iron were amazing. I was very excited Unfortunately after three days when I was supposed to wash it the straightening didnt hold. It kept getting wavier and wavier so I called John on saturday who told me to come by on monday afternoon. By this time i still wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, but then on Monday he started asking me if i did something wrong if i wet the hair or even if i sweated. I assured him i didnt and he kept saying he didnt know what happened. He then told me he would redo the ends but I told him i wanted the WHOLE hair straight...that was the whole point. We continued discussing why it didnt hold and then i told him again about the whole heating thing...he then said that maybe we should try another chemical. This set off a lot more alarm bells...another chemical??? He said he would do it but wouldnt do it that day as he wanted my hair to "rest" I got that, even though i really wanted to have my hair straight for the weekend but whatever. And then....the kicker....just as he finished the whole "i want your hair to rest so maybe we should do it next monday" he says "but in the meantime you could get your hair dye!" I was throughly confused....you want my hair to rest so I have to wait a whole week to get my hair fixed yet youre offering me yet another chemical process for the meantime??? seriously?? At this point i didnt know what to think so even though i wasnt sure i wanted him to do anything else to my hair i said i would be back. I went to the original place i had my hair done a few years ago and they took a look at my hair. I asked about the process they use and its the same as the one John used. They told me that the chemicals were strong and to redo it would almost ensure that the hair would be damaged, that even though it would be straight the ends would be frazzled. That if i wanted to get it fixed i could do a keratin process that its not permanent but is not as strong...for another $300!!!! I weighted my options and decided i wouldnt do either one, i rather learn from my mistakes and really believe that you get what you pay for... I called John and told him what i was told at the other salon. He was very rude, laughing at me and saying that they didnt know what they were talking about. I asked him for a refund since he didnt deliver the service i paid for (plus he really irritated me by laughing at me!) and he just said he could redo it for me but wouldnt refund anything. I try to explain as best as I could that i couldnt very well allow him to do the whole process having already been told it would damage my hair. He still wouldnt hear of it. Im very dissapointed by this, especially because i really wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt but he sounded very unknowledgeable about the process....even just looking up online it says Yuko (which is what he uses) uses heat to change the hair. Maybe he is used to "easier" not so tough hair but if so he should have told me from the get go so I wouldnt have wasted my time.

I actually found John on this very website by reading all of his positive reviews! John is very admirable and talented because he continues to study and practice all of the latest trends in hair cutting/coloring/styling. His customer service is outstanding, and I, being a mother of two, truly appreciate his flexibility in booking appointments - hes always there for me! He colors my hair blonde, and has treated me with the Japanese straightening - Im anxiously ready for him to apply the Brazilian Keratin treatment on my hair, next visit! Both my children and my husband get their hair cut by John. I have referred many friends, children, and my twin sis to John, with outstanding results, no doubt. Look no further, and book your appointment with John today if youre looking for great hair from a great stylist!

If you want people to stop you in the street to compliment your hair cut and color, then go see Mirna who works with John. She is not only creative, but your hair will look so natural that people will wonder how you can have such great color and highlights. have had nothing but compliments every time I get my hair done. . The other thing that is great is that if Mirna cant do your hair, Johns work is equally professional and will delight you. These two people are competent, professional, creative, and a joy to have in your life.

John and his wife Mirna are highly skilled stylists and the nicest people you could ever know. John has been styling my hair for the past seven or eight years and also cuts my husbands hair. John is very good at working with the customers hair type and preferences to get a flattering result. He is an artist! Henrietta Mosley

Jon saved my over processed hair when I first moved to LA in 2000. I was one of Jons first clients to use the Japanese Hair Straightening procedure when it first came to So Cal. I wouldnt trust anyone else to do it and come all the way from Palm Springs each year to do so. He is the BEST!
