Sadly, after a 15 year membership, with numerous changes in operations and policy, I finally gave up. The trainers and employees, for the most part, are friendly and helpful, but the corporate focus is on profits above everything, including clients. As a senior who daily used the gym and did not employ a trainer or go to many classes, I may have aged out of Body Kinetics target market! In the end, the straw for me was a new policy that doled out, from the front desk, towlettes one at a time to folks sweating on the machines. The situation was compounded by management assuming that my upset spilled over onto the staff. Rather than ask me or other clients present, they made abusive phone calls. Although planning to take a leave of absence to look for another gym, the confrontations and abuse forced me to leave immediately. When I joined, the one-time "initiation" fee was $750 plus the regular monthly charge. Now the cost is only the $95 monthly fee. So in addition to treating a client badly, I have to walk away from the $750! Body Kinetics Health Club and Spa, although convenient, is not a place for seniors or for those folks who only want to use the gym equipment ... or for that matter, people who want to be treated as clients rather than numbers on a P&L.

Body Kinetics in San Rafael took over the facility recently. Other than having no towels (consistently, first blamed on broken washer/dryers, then amended to "new towels on order" and now because of theft by members), the fact that neither the sauna nor the steam room (mens) have worked for more than a week, the fact that at least of three pieces of equipment have been non-functioning for a month, the fact that one of the three sinks (men) has been out of order for more than a month, the fact that new equipment has been "promised" (but not appeared) for several weeks to replace equipment which has been carted off, the fact that the "no cellphone usage" rule is never enforced, the fact that for a week the entrance was clogged with a "sale" of womens fashion (not workout wear) and jewelry...I could go on, but the club has become a disaster.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Got to try pilates reformer class for free - amazing! I just wish I could afford to keep taking them - too pricey! (on par with all other studios - just too pricey for me :) Their regular pilates mat classes are also great - best I have been to - the teachers (especially Lily) give one on one feedback and correction commentary. Incredibly helpful. The gym itself has everything gyms usually do, and some other newer fun (okay ... thats my opinion ... maybe useful is a more common word) equipment to spice up a workout routine. I hope someday to be able to afford to keep coming back - right now my groupon thirty days is up, and while I love this gym, I cant afford both the 99$ initiation fee and the monthly fee. (again ... not unusual, just too much for me).

I love going to MV Body Kinetics, and wish I could get there more often. For classes, I have mostly attended yoga, and love Sutats 8am Sat morning class. Peck Fords yoga and Laura Grecos Sat stretch class are great too. I have worked with a few different trainers over the years, and found them to be helpful, personable and knowledgeable. I am a big fan of Joey for massage and wish my budget allowed more of them! The club is a little tight on floor space, so a busy time can be a bit challenging, but it all works out. I have rarely had to wait for weight machines, and always found a machine available for cardio, even if not always my first choice. They open at 5:30am weekdays, which gives me plenty of time to work out before work.

Im really enjoying being a member here. The staff and clients are friendly and recognize me, the ladies dressing room is clean and well equipped, and the gym equipment is up-to-date and kept in good working order. I didnt think Id care about complimentary towel service, but I find that I really like it and use it every time. Nutritional coaching groups have helped me to lose weight. But what I enjoy the most is the group fitness classes, particularly Zumba, Pilates mats, Cardio Blast, yoga, and Stretch and Core. I go to as many as 7 classes a week.

I have been going to Body Kinetics for years, first for Pilates and weight training, sometimes yoga, now primarily for their spin classes (which are great because they have terrific instructors, its a fun group of spinners and we chat and joke around while also doing serious spin training -- and its outdoors! (in a good way-- a roof and walls that on three side--about shoulder height while spinning--open to the roof, with heat lamps on chilly days before we get warmed up). Cant imagine ever going back indoor spinning.

Body Kinetics is a great local gym with wonderful, friendly staff. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The locker room is nice and clean and well stocked with towels and EO products. Classes can be crowded, but everyone tries to be accommodating about space. Convenience is a big factor for me and this gym is very easily accessible and parking is good - the lot in back is best for nights when the Cantina is busy.

I may be biased because I work here but Ive been a member at many other gyms and Ive never seen a club that cared more about their members than bk. Everyone from trainers, front desk, maintenance, instructors, Pilates, marketing :p, the owner genuinely care and thats exactly what makes us so special.

I have been going here since I started pilates 4 years ago. The instructors are great and they have 8 reformers so there is always one available when I want to work out on my own. They offer good mat classes.
