: I attended their dress rehearsal. I walked right in and no one questioned why I was there. I saw most people videotaping the show. The layout of the show was choppy. Apparently, they have two shows. The day show contains mostly younger kids but they throw in some older groups to mix it up. The night show is primarily older kids. The “first show” rehearsal took about an hour. It was unclear if the babies were even attending this rehearsal since the youngest class we saw was maybe five years old. I did not stay for the “night show” rehearsal since it started to seem like a lot of the repeat performances we just sat through minus the babies. When I spoke to the owner previously she stated the show was 2-1/2 hours. This is why I assumed there were quite a few baby classes that weren’t there. I didn’t understand how you dragged out a one hour rehearsal to two and half hours. They appear to have one class of core dancers which have good technique. I found there was a distinct difference between the competition kids and the recreational kids. I couldn’t understand how the kids with bad technique crossed over to that one group that was the cleanest. Typically you should see the growth pattern in the different levels. This was just not apparent to me. The kids weren’t performing anything really difficult and the steps were very repetitive from class to class. One would think that if a seven year old class was doing a lot of running, walking, arm movements that they would at least perfect their arm movements and foot positions. There wasn’t really else they were doing. In my opinion this age group should be working on more or be given more. I just didn’t see it. The same teacher seems to teach the modern and the lyrical classes since I didn’t see a firm difference between choreography in these routines. They used a lot of Sarah McLaughlin or music like hers. Quite a few sad songs and several songs not so age appropriate were used for the younger kids. The show seemed to be strictly performance after performance; no theme or flow. I got the impression with half the classes that you might have gotten a shopping list and gone out and got your own costumes. When I say this I mean there were jeans and tank tops, shorts and shirts, etc. No backdrops were used and not a whole lot of fancy anything. It looked sort of like a really low key school performance. The performance is held at the Stratford High School and there didn’t seem to be air conditioning. It was humid the night we were there so I can only imagine how it would be with an auditorium full of people. I have no idea if they just didn’t turn it on that night or they just don’t have it. Very difficult to find parking.

I have danced in an adult jazz class at Connecticut Dance Conservatory, CDC for the past 5 years. As a woman with four children running around, it is very hard to try to fit in me time. So this class has worked out perfectly. During my childrens class time, I am able to fit in my jazz class. One year, we were even privileged to have Deanna Ford as our teacher ( known for performing as a Rockette in Las Vegas and NYC). The teachers that have taught our jazz class are very in tune to our bodies and are aware of what we need. This year, I added an adult tap to my schedule at CDC. There is one more important factor that I have kept me here at this studio which is their understanding of the importance of family, school and supporting each other in good times and bad. The courage, strength, love and giving will of the people that attend this studio that has been shown in the past year has made me want to continue to have my children dance at this studio today and many tomorrows.

There arent words to express how much we love and cherish CDC. My daughter took Tiny Dancer II, Jr.Hip Hop, and recently finished an incredibly creative week of Princess Camp at the studio...and it is no exaggeration to say that she loved every minute. CDC is more than a top-rate studio with immensely talented instructors (though it certainly is that too) - it is a joyful mix of caring and exuberant teachers, kind and hard working students, thoughtful and committed parents, and so much love. This is more than a place to dance - it is a home, for dancers of all shapes, sizes, backgrounds, skill levels, ages, etc. CDC is a family that welcomes you with open arms and hearts. I cant imagine a better place to experience the joy of dance, and I cant recommend it highly enough.

CDC has always been there for me! Ive been dancing there since I was 3 and its just a great place to let go. I love that this place is a great environment to be yourself and you can just forget about all of the problems that maybe happened to you that day. You can just come here to dance, be with friends and the best part really is watching everyones growth throughout all my years of being there. I have made so many life long friends!!! -Melissa Tartaglio

I have been part of the CDC family for 7 years and I am only 9 years old. I have enjoyed every single year. Everyone is so kind and welcoming. All of the staff are good people and caring towards all of the students. I have learned many dance skills and continue to. CDC allows me to compete in dance competitions and even select my own choreographer. CDC is like my family and is my home away from home. Not only have I learned to become a great dancer, I have made friends that I will have forever. I love CDC!!!! Ava Grace

Ive been a part of CDC since the day the doors opened, about 16 years ago! I not only danced there but I also competed with CDC for many years. After graduating from high school I loved to continue to support CDC at their company shows and recitals. The talent of the students and teachers is amazing and inspiring. Ive also volunteered at the recital for many years. I love to give back to the studio that gave me so much growing up.

My time at CDC has been a wonderful learning experience because I learned how to work as a group and dancing helped me with my coordination. The CDC recitals show how much Ive learned and how far Ive come in my dancing. The teachers there are patient because they stay with me and give me pointers so I can dance to my full potential. CDC has been amazing and I dont think Im going to stop going any time soon. -Abigail Walsh

Both of my girls now dance with CDC. My oldest daughter started dancing at CDC 5 years ago and has loved every moment. She cant wait to dance every week, mostly because of Miss Karen. I love that she enjoys dancing and have loved the friendships that both she and I have formed over the last five years. CDC has become a second family to us and I look forward to many more years of dancing with them.
